PLAYERUNKNOWN'S BATTLEGROUNDS - Thread

Hahahahaha this thread is turning into comedy gold!

How can one person be wrong about so many games? I went back through the dayz standalone thread and that was a good read too!

guess who said it lol

Told you haha! I am a fanboy, like a real fan boy... I'l hype and be honest if I'm let down. I wouldn't buy a game for 30mins and say its too buggy!

But we cant expect anything less from DG.... If he'd been the first to hear of it then it would be "game of the year".

I'm really not seeing that at all, player count hasnt dropped from what I'm seeing, at least its certainly not according to the steamcharts. I'm not going to try and dissuade them from doing so, all I would say is, everyone should try both and see which one they think is better.

This. Prehaps its a good thing when he says the game is too buggy haha. I have asked him to list the "bugs" he encountered... But then again one can google and quote... I'd like to know the game breaking bugs he's talking about personally.

Saw a Q and A the other day which said it will definitely be coming to consoles

Yeah Jackfrags mentioned it.... This will blow console's up! I think we PC gamers are genuinely bored of Linear FPS games, die, respawn, rince repeat games!

Love this Dev team! Tell me a better Dev team from an Early Access game!! Right to the point we know whats happening and when to expect patches.

Early Access Update 1
29 MARCH - PLAYERUNKNOWN
ecfaab05cfb959220b8f1994a05da1506acdfebe.jpg

Players,

Today we outline the schedule for updates during Early Access and address some of the bigger issues some of you have faced so far.

Early Access Schedule
During Early Access, we plan to release updates in 3 phases.
  • Daily updates, to improve server performance
  • Weekly updates, to push bug fixes & client performance and stability fixes
  • Monthly updates, to add new content and push balance passes for game-play

Known Issues
There is a rare bug which will cause some buildings not to render for players, allowing them to shoot others seemingly through the walls. We are tracking down the cause of this and will update you when it is fixed.

Sound
A lot of you have given feedback on our positional sounds, and today Marek will explain in a little more detail how sounds work in the game.

Gunshot Sound
  • Each gunshot sound you hear in game has propagation delay based on distance between source and the listener
  • The propagation velocity is 340m/s so if a pistol is shot 340m away from the listener, he will see the muzzle flash first and hear the gunshot after 1 second
  • If gunshot is fired from indoor or there is no direct or approximate line of sight (obstructed), the reverb effect and LPF are applied to the sound effect

Bullet Crack/Whizz Effect
  • Bullet crack effect (or bullet bow shockwave) is generated when a supersonic projectile passes in close proximity to the listener. The effect can be heard in a closest point on bullet trajectory line. Basically, the sound source is always perpendicular to the trajectory line, so if you hear a bullet crack just in your left headphone, you know that the shooter is either directly in front of you, or behind you

    4fc8ecfe0aa6e7c8600eef1883710d4a96424fae.jpg

  • Most of our weapons are supersonic. This means that you will hear the crack/whizz before you hear the actual gunshot
In a scenario where you see a shooter 1000m away, using AWM (>900m/s muzzle velocity) the events will occur in such order:

    1. You see the muzzle flash
    2. After ~1 sec you hear the crack/whizz (assuming no air drag)
    3. After ~3 sec you hear the gunshot

  • Bullets passing close to the player will generate a crack sound, the ones passing further away will only generate whizz effect
  • We blend between different sound samples based on distance (the maximum distance and attenuation characteristic is also affected by suppressor attachment). The close gunshot sounds louder and more clear than the distant one

In the current public build, all bullets generate a sound crack effect. We've changed this mechanic by adding a velocity check, so bullets travelling slower than speed of sound will not generate the crack effect but just whizz.

I will do a Q&A session soon to get more feedback on sounds in the game, so stay tuned! - Marek

Client Optimization
In case you missed it last week, here is a look at our schedule for client optimization. This process will take time, and will not be fixed with a single patch. We ask for your patience as we work to improve performance.

Initial Performance Improvements
Key Objectives
  • To reduce the overload on the CPU, and make sure that the GPU performs to its full capability

Expected Results
  • Frame rates will be stable even when in high-density areas
  • Get higher frame rates across all graphic options

ETA: Apr. 14th (Expected to take roughly 5 weeks)

Further Performance Improvements
Step 1:Art assets optimization (Apr. 7th)
  • Decrease the LOD vertex for buildings seen at long distances
  • Decrease the total amount of vertex by adjusting the LOD on terrains

ETA: Apr. 7th

Step 2:Improve the rendering performance of terrain and ocean shader (TBD)

Step 3:Decrease the overload on the CPU by rearranging wall near buildings (TBD)

Step 4:Decrease the usage rate of the video memory (TBD)

Leaderboards
Our leaderboard system has proven to be a very popular feature, and for the most part, we are happy with the current ranking system. However, the system will need balancing once we have sufficient data from a good sample size. The ELO system will need many balance passes before it is ready and to complete this we will be wiping the leaderboards on a monthly basis so to allow us to get a clean data-set from any changes we make.

OC/SA Servers
With tomorrow’s client update we will be bringing Oceania and South American servers online. These servers will feature their own regional leaderboards.

Ping Lock

We are looking into implementing a ping lock for our servers. We have no ETA on when this will be added just yet as we have limited resources, and at the moment server performance and stability is our highest priority. We also don’t want to restrict the ability for friends in different regions to play together, but we understand how frustrating it can be playing against high ping players and take this very seriously. Please bear with us while we come up with the best way to add this new feature.

Finally today, here are the patch notes for the weekly patch we will push this Thursday.

See you in-game,

In the patch notes it mentions the endgame zone speeds will be altered, does anyone know if that means sped up or slowed down?

Obviously I will find out tonight when I log on , just wondered if anyone knew before then

I would definitely say that for anyone finding £27 is too much of a hit in the pocket, the best thing to do would be to wait til its fully released and then pay whatever the full release price is. IMO its a great game and one that everyone , who likes this sort of thing, should play at some point this year. The following and feedback its already getting from gamers and the gaming social media community is great.

For me, with over 60 hours now played in beta and early access, the £27 has been a tiny drop in the ocean (50p per hour of fun? I cant match that anywhere else currently) , but for those for whom the price is a brickwall, then I'd say wait but keep an eye open for full release, dont miss out on the fun at some point down the road.

For me i am so glad I went for early access got some exclusive clothes a coat, red boots and face mask bandana sold them as soon as items could be traded on the market and made £70 stright away result !!

I'm really not seeing that at all, player count hasnt dropped from what I'm seeing, at least its certainly not according to the steamcharts. Nor have I noticed H1Z1 increasing noticeably. Someone earlier in the thread said you have an agenda, I hate to say it, but it does increasingly seem like you do indeed have an agenda to try and get people to not play BG and play H1Z1 instead. I dont know why that is, whether its because you have time invested in H1Z1 and dont want people to start leaving it, whether the 27 for BG is too much for you and so you dont want people to start backing it, or whether you genuinely dont like BG and so dont want others to like it either, I just dont know.

The VAST weight of general opinion, from people on this forum, from people on other forums, from magazines (both physical and virtual), from streamers...is that BG is a damned good game. As much as I hate to level accusations, it does seem like whomever said earlier that you must have some hidden agenda, does indeed seem to be the case.

Each to their own of course, for me H1Z1 is a little too kiddified and sat stale for too long. BG is fresh and a more adult in its aspects, and bottom line...I simply find it much much more fun. However, if people want to play H1Z1 thats their choice, I'm not going to try and dissuade them from doing so, all I would say is, everyone should try both and see which one they think is better.

okay here is h1z1 player numbers - see the growing base

i have no agenda with any games.the only agenda i have is games are good as they can be. if they are great i say they are.if they are not i say they are ****. i dont mind who plays what.at the end of the day you play what you like.nothing wrong with that.the thing is. is the game you like doing what it can to be the best it can ? from what i see this game isnt. its not much different from the free mod.i played the old arma 3 mod quite a bit. only difference is a newer buggy engine.so swapped a buggy engine for a newer buggy engine which doesnt like fast paced action either.more slower based games suit it.

the animations are terrible fps isnt great graphics arent great.how much of that can be optimized ? will be optimized.that is the question. i have said i like the idea of the game it could be great. it could also be dog****.

we have all ridden the early access train in here and fell foul to devs telling us whatever you want to hear.for games sales.

so its not about hidden anything its just i like games to be made well and play well.if they are done well then many play them and we all have fun.some are having fun now and enjoying the game.fair enough. look at both sides not just one.

if we honest what has sold this game is hype and the usual big youtubers doing videos on it and the lack of games that can actually pull off this game genre and the fact we want it so badly ! does that mean we may dive into any game thats new like this double footed ? YEP !! that has been this genres problem to many fleecing people for buggy games with no end product. the only one that is slick enough is what most is playing and its H1Z1. so thats why i mention it.

so if you enjoy the game enjoy it.nothing wrong with that have fun.;) also i wouldnt base your finding on the oldskool trolls on here they done same since dayz mod came out.:D

And could you also provide an image to show the dropping BG figures that you claim? After all, I believe it was supposed to drop like a stone this week? Purely in the interest of accuracy of course, would hate to think we are having a one sided bias in any statistics

well you can if you want but basically since last week 11,000 people peak time have gone.which is a big drop.the first week.so that is a big drop wouldnt you say ?

as i said enjoy the game i wont post anymore.have fun.:)

Its just that I am not seeing that 11k people peak time drop. I have the steamcharts page open at the moment and the graph isnt showing an 11k peak time drop. It shows..

29th March Peak - 58,204
28th March Peak - 57,281
27th March Peak - 57,318
26th March Peak - 67,846
25th March Peak - 56,350
24th March Peak - 46,372
23rd March Peak - 39,523

So, its risen since release, with the 1st (and so far only) Sunday of release , having the highest figure, which might be expected. Other than that night, it hasnt dropped on any peak. Certainly hasnt had a dropoff of stone like lessening of figures. Of course I am only basing that on the figures of the steam chart, so I'm happy to see the one you have which shows the figures are dropping. As I say, purely in the interest of giving the readers all the facts with no bias on either side of the issue involved.

Despite being in the same genre, both KOTK and PUBG play out quite differently. Gunplay and movment speed are the biggest differences. This is based on roughly 1000 hours on H1Z1 and ooh...12? :) on Battlegrounds.

I love H1, and felt I got quite good at it over the past year. I get the criticism aimed at the devs, but also dislike how it became cool to "hate" on the game in gereral, when until now, nothing else matched it in the genre/style. BGs gunplay is less janky, I appreciate the differing guns/attachments, and the gameplay lends itself (so far) where different attachments do have a use in different situations. H1 has always had some very strange recoil, different to practically any other shooter I've played.

As for movement speed, I think I already prefer BGs. Matter of taste though.

There's space for both, I can see twitch viewers to'ing and fro'ing once the initial honeymoon period is over. There's a hell of a lot of work still to be done on BG, and it might just spur some real improvements (not just skins and hit markers) in H1.

Tldr: competition is good, each play out differently, and I like both.

ANYWAY - back on track - if people don't like the game - that's fine but can we not have 3 pages of trashing and stats about other games please!!!!

Anyone want some duo/squad games tonight?? hit me up on steam please - booyaka1976

Thanks!!!

I own, play and like both games and to be honest BG is hopefully exactly what the H1 devs needed to pull their fingure out and actually add something worthwhile to the game other than skins and hit markers. For those who want an unbiased comparison between the two if your thinking of buying either.

BG

Pros.

Much tighter map than H1 with areas that are actually different. Yes it's slightly smaller but I feel it's the right size for 100 players per game.

Better variation of weapons/attachments/grenades etc

Much punchier weapon sounds that make the weapons feel good to use and feel heavy.

I don't think anyone will argue that the due mode on BG is significantly better than it's counter part and is a big big reason for it's success soo far.

Minimap navigation again much better on BG.

The ability to jump out of the plane at will adds where you start your game more tactical/planned.

Firefights in moving vehicles feel like a madmax type moment and just feels better than h1(I think it's the leaning out of the windows etc )

Cons

Let's be honest the optimisation is absolute garbage right now. Will it be fixed ??? Who knows but at the moment it's the games biggest detractor.

Server stability/warping around like I'm on a dial up connection in some servers.

Can feel very slow sometimes, I prefer this but many want a quick win.

The graphics need a lot of work to stabilise the performance.

H1Z1

Pros

Quicker game play that feels more arcadey than it's counter part. I like this personally but if you want slower paced than BG is more suited to you.

Well optimised and the game just feels sharper graphically.

Has an established player base with devs who have the cash to make improvements.

Picking up items in h1 whilst not realistic is much slicker and I prefer, BG need to work on this it just feels so clunky right now.

Larger map (this could be a pro or con)

Cons

Running around feels like your character is either floating on thin air or running on a stationary running machine. Quick but god awful.

Lack of weapon variation. This really irks me! Add some blooming weapons you lazy so and so's.

Every game descends into a mini game of destruction derby with no destruction. Every man and his mother driving around in cars then hopping out to plug each other, becomes repetitive fast.

Map variation extremely poor. To me you feel like your in the same part of the map no matter where you are. Yeh it's not essential for the game but it makes a difference in my book.

Greedy devs (tbh I don't think BG devs will be any different but they only care about cash).

Long story short and I hate to draw this conparison but H1 is the call of duty against the battlefield of BG. Neither are going anywhere fast and attract a different player base for the same type of game.

The game is essentially unplayable for me this evening. Even with both my CPU and GPU heavily overclocked I am not getting anywhere near smooth frames. It feels like single figures and I've given up until a shiny new RX 480 arrives tomorrow.
