playing GRAW 2 with no physx card, but with effects!

Yeah i noticed it on the Inq.
But this hack/edit is old news... I remember months ago seeing something like this to play the game with physx on with no PPU.

It's one of those vicious circles - Developers won't make a game PhysX dependant because it won't sell games and people buy PhysX because no developer will make it worth anyones hard earned cash.

Ageias not helping by still employing their useless marketing and PR team.

It boils down to being extremely clever hardware and an API that holds great promise but being entirely useless because it's such a huge risk to invest the time and the money in developing for it.

Can anyone say 'Sinking Ship'?

“only in AGEIA supported games, AFAIK, these games: GRAW, GRAW2, UT3“
All those games support the PPU. But 99% of Ageia supported games don’t work with the PPU. Sometime’s its a pain you just don’t know if its going work till you try it. Sometime’s there’s loads of confusion like Two worlds no one seem to know if it works or not.

Doesnt need it, and there is no option for extra physics in the settings either..but it does use the API

Edit: Just went into the Ageia physx control panel, then to demos and ran the cloth demo... solid 60fps while rendering cloth...hm?

“Edit: Just went into the Ageia physx control panel, then to demos and ran the cloth demo... solid 60fps while rendering cloth...hm?”
First throw some balls at it and watch the FPS drop as the cloth tears. 2nd if you had a PPU and turned it on the FPS would jump up more.

Not only that but its cloth and cloth only. It’s one thing doing an effect by its self. It’s another doing it in a game with everything else going on.

Its not the cloth sitting there doing nothing it’s when you start interacting with the cloth the CPU struggles. Try throwing 5 balls fast and report back how the FPS change.

EDIT: we in the cloth demo press number 6 to load the tearing demo.

I see complete lack of understanding resource sharing allot lately.
Crysys DX9 v DX10 being a good example saying that they have seen some of the FX that are in the DX10 demo that were not in the DX9 have been done on DX9 in games in the past, but then forget that the games were nowhere near as gfxly rich or had such physics to contended with at the same time.

"how exactly do you find the island? i cant find it in multiplayer map list or single player."
Do you have a PPU? It might only show in the list if you have a PPU. I must get around to trying GRAW 2 the full game and that map.

ha i didnt think this would get on inquirer.

it is a very easy workaround tbh, a settings file, and changing 2 pretty obvious strings. i did it, but it wouldnt work, i kept having CTD's, because i didnt change the settings ingame. so i googled around for a while, and someone said to change the settings whilst you are ingame, which i would never have thought of.

i still cant get the island level to work though, thats a bit beyond me

what im really after though, is to 'trick' the pc into just thinking you have the card. thats why ive been sifting through all of the driver files, but im at a loss as to what im looking for and what to change

dude have you got the orginal link where you sound this hack ?

edit - found it, tweaksrus, looks like there site is still down.

i actually changed the files myself, but i couldnt get it to work, so i thought i jus borked it, and left it for a while (i dont like the game tbqh). they knew how to get it working by changing it ingame, but theirs was for vista (i was under the impression this game didnt work in vista) and subsequently the settings file is in a completely different area for XP.

ah well, like you said, its good for ocuk ;)
