playing GRAW 2 with no physx card, but with effects!

“Edit: Just went into the Ageia physx control panel, then to demos and ran the cloth demo... solid 60fps while rendering cloth...hm?”
First throw some balls at it and watch the FPS drop as the cloth tears. 2nd if you had a PPU and turned it on the FPS would jump up more.

Not only that but its cloth and cloth only. It’s one thing doing an effect by its self. It’s another doing it in a game with everything else going on.

Its not the cloth sitting there doing nothing it’s when you start interacting with the cloth the CPU struggles. Try throwing 5 balls fast and report back how the FPS change.

EDIT: we in the cloth demo press number 6 to load the tearing demo.

Lowest i got was 50fps (this is with 16xS AA on!) on the tearing demo.

I will post a screenshot if you really want

Watched the youtube video. The trees looks impressive and the wind and leaves. But I think the instant spontaneous combustion when you shoot things will get boring and making the game not seem so real. What guard tower when shot with bullets or rocket explodes from the ground to the top all at once? Seems like everything get shot with a Nuclear bomb rather than a missle or gun.

I would love to play just with some wind and the tress though.

Yer the tower when it gets blown up is not that good. It all falls together in a pile when it should be flying in the sky from the explosion.

Bigger pieces should fall down together and perhaps half the structure left standing. Seems physics for destruction is one algorithm that breaks apart the entire 3D model all at once.

“Seems physics for destruction is one algorithm that breaks apart the entire 3D model all at once.”
That’s not always correct. You can blow up parts of objects and it’s different every time. Some developers like in AA did choose an algorithm that breaks apart the entire 3D model all at once others choose buildings are made up of multiply parts like Warmonger. GRAW is in-between two extremes.

Just like racing sims perhaps they need a simulation option and an arcade option. Then can choose between real destruction and arcade like destruction.

these ageia physX cards have now dropped to like ~£70. is it worth buying?

or is it £70 better spent elsewhere?

Spend it elswhere my friend, its only a matter of time untill processors will be handling them even though they can handle them already.

im 50/50 atm. cant deicde.. i when it was at £180 beggining of this year- i would have definatly said no- but now its at ~£70 or so and GRAW 2 looks really nice, and my fav game of all time UT3 is around he corner that will also support physx (dont know if its gonna be as good as GRAW2).

my system build is gonna be a q6600 and a bfg 8800gtx overclocked.

How many games do you have that use it? What does each game get from it?
Perhaps writing that down in a document and looking at the end list will make it easier to decide to get one now, later on, or never.

"even though they can handle them already."
It’s been proven time and time again the CPU cannot handle it. The high end effects don’t work on the CPU yet and the ones that do slow the CPU down a lot.

You know the physX was a good idea but the price point just couldn't match and will never break in to the mainstream market.

If they could get the price done to £30-40 then maybe they would be a success. People tend not to pay much for sound, Network cards etc. These tend to be luxary items. How many people bought the Killer K1? Great idea for a product but priced WAY out there that it's not viable.

What both products HAVE done and where they are successful is by making people realise physics could be improved on, the windows TCP/IP stack is crap and could be improved on. We all took these things forgranted until these products came along. While we may not buy one at their crazy prices we are thinking we need better NIC's and physics in our games. A year ago we weren't thinking anything of the sort.

Good news and bad news

I bought GRAW2 on Saturday last week and finished it the same day, what a good game !

And then I wanted to check out that Ageia Island so I googled up if there was a way to unlock it, and I found this forum.

Unfortunately you hadn't found a way so I had to pass 15 minutes finding out how to unlock it, and it was really easy.

I don't know how it is for vista users, but Windows XP users go to:
C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter2\Data\levels\ageia_bonus_mission

and edit: world_info.xml

now the second line should be like this:
<world_info path="/data/levels/common/campaign_settings.xml" name="mission" mission_time="day" ageia_collision="true">

Now to unlock the ageia island the only thing you need to do is change ageia_collision="true" to ageia_collision="false"

Start the game, and Ageia Island will be unlocked.

Now to the bad news, I was running in on my Dell E1705 notebook (Dual Core T7200 2.00GHz, 4MB Cache, 2GB Ram, 7900GTX 512MB) and it lagged very much. And theres even more bad news, you get on to the island via a chopper, and oddly enough you fall and die directly. Is there any god mode for Graw 2? Ive tried with a trainer (Black ops armor) but it didn't help really much.

Next thing I am going to try is adding ageia_collision="true" to the other missions, I tried it before launching the mission, and it took ages to load, actually it never loaded completely. Ill try adding that line while in game..

For those of you who have only a quick.bundle archive in the DATA Directory do the following:

Download this reader: http://www.ghostrecon.net/files2/in...act=view&id=323

(I know it says it for Graw 1 in the description, but it will work just as well)

Open bundlereader.exe, open bundle (choose your quick.bundle) it will load it, and extract node.

(Just extract the data folder and put the files inside your already existing data folder) move the quick.bundle file to some other place, otherwise the game will load it as default and will not load the edited files.

Thats...

because you need to extract the folders from quick.bundle using a bundlereader.

Download this reader: http://www.ghostrecon.net/files2/index.php?act=view&id=323

(Now you can edit everything you want, including weapons and units)
