Playing Half Life 2 for the first time

Did anyone else suffer the cold sweats from the hovercraft level? I think that was where I stopped playing in 2004/05. I nearly passed out ready to vomit. Took 6 - 8 hours to recover.

Must admit had a good laugh playing with friends for Portal 2. 4 - 5 hours felt like 1 hour.

I too am on my first playthrough of this game, I'm loving it so far but not got very far into it yet, I completed HL1 years ago and LOVED every second of it :)

one quick question, where do I get these texture/graphics mods etc and which one is the best? could someone possibly post a link :)

thanks

Can't link at the moment, but for HL2 look for the Cinematic Mod from FakeFactory

Erm, nope?

Oh I loved that game when it was released.
I remember feeling like I was in a movie. The story really pulled me in.

Those face crab things though :o I used to poop myself when I seen the ground rattling.

Pure blind panic at times, but great enjoyment.
Might play through it again.

ancient demo of the source engine

Brilliant wee vid that, i remember when it was put online everyone was buzzing about it.

Only cold sweat i got was walking a large portion of that section without the hoverboat :p

Why? I loved the hovercraft levels, those levels where you were flying along it the hovercraft destroying everythign were epic.

Yep, I did that as well. Only realised something was wrong when I got to the ramp you have to drop washing machines on and I could'n't jump over the fence. :D

Wait, you could use the hoverboard? I had to use god mod and noclip through that part, thought it was a bug! :D

I got very sick too, low FOV plus high speed wasn't pleasant

I remember watching this so many times and being blown away at what they had achieved with the Source Engine. Amazing times and getting to play it and then make mods too, so much fun.

Likewise.

Half life 2 blew me away.

The gaming industry needs a half life 3 now!

EDIT:

TBH, that video puts the majority of modern/new games to shame :( :o

Totally agree we need a HL3 now. :) I almost fear that with Unreal Engine etc they've not got the same drive to put all their efforts into building another engine when the competition is so high now. I'm not sure how far they can push Source 2 etc and part of what made HL2 so great was playing a game that felt so ahead of its time.

HL3 has tons to live up to and maybe they're just too scared to go for it or scrapped it at some point. I'm hoping it's HL3 with VR and they do a sudden out of the blue release. If it just popped up one day on Steam, that would be amazing. :D

Do we know what games Valve are actually working on at the moment? If it's radio silence, maybe there is a chance? Or maybe they're just enjoying the fruits of having the Steam Platform churning an endless stream of jollies.

Probably saving it for when they really are in trouble :p :( No idea what they are doing atm, I think if they are working on any games, it will most likely be left 4 dead 3, which I wouldn't mind... :p

But yeah, I couldn't really care less for graphic improvements as I think it still looks really nice (obviously it would be most welcomed though).

What did it for me was the interaction with the environment and the physics i.e. in that video:

- using the traps laid out for you
- blocking the door with the table
- using a radiator etc. as cover from fire and then firing it at the guy who went flying into the vending machine and you had the drinks/cans falling out due to the impact
- blocking the stair ways with rubbish

etc. etc.

Unlike most games these days where it is just run'n'gun with no thought process or tactics.
