PlayStation 4 Pro in-bound

Yep.

Although it won't stop some people overreacting like a little girl that fell off her bike and scraped her knee.

Already seen comments elsewhere where people are 'leaving Sony after 15 years and going to MS over this betrayal'.

Though back to the real world for a moment. Liking the quote about UHD graphics. Knowing myself, probably Day 1 for me

I can see this offering 4K output for netflix etc and hopefully 4k blu ray, but there is no way it will be able to run any games at 4k. And if it does come with a GPU 'upgrade' no developer will be able to make software specifically for it, so that aspect is just a total waste of time.

I can understand them making a smaller machine with the benefits of die shrink etc but thats about it.

The film is Assassins with Banderas and Stallone.

Ah, I remember watching that movie. Makes sense that I can't remember one still image from it XD

the masses will never game on a monitor.

You're right. The monitor thing is just my personal thoughts, I don't think it'll actually ever happen. Average folks don't care much about response times and refresh rates, they just want a bigger screen (but do they have the space?). Speaking of which...

i have bought my son a 50" £300 polaroid tv

Firstly, that is one spoilt kid and secondly... £300 for a 50" 4K TV? Okay, it didn't quite say 4k... but good TVs are generally pretty costly. Though I have noticed the prices coming down now. Just the other day I saw a 4K TV for ~£600-700. As they get cheaper, adoption rates will rise. Now I'm just wondering whether the content will be there. Imagine the bandwidths needed to stream 4k video... internet speed would definitely need to get better before 4k becomes more mainstream.

A 390x would be able to bump whatever current titles run on the ps4 @4k,as long as they don't bottleneck the gpu with a sufficient cpu and memory bandwidth upgrade.

Can see Sony putting out a new 'slim' cheap model for $299/£249 and the new ps4k with 4k Blu-Ray,HDMI 2.0a and the ability to play games at native 4k for $599/£499.

All these rumors can't just be talking about a new slim model with hdmi 2.0,as the WJS has now confirmed it is going to be a more powerful box with a cpu and gpu upgrade.

I think at $600 they could cover the costs of the chips needed to do a 4k console justice.

Will probably end up in the same situation the ps3 was in...seemingly expensive but by virtue of including the new Blu-ray standard seems like a good deal, plus it can play games

Your right it's not going to work if Sony expects developers to go back and patch their games for the new system.

The only way it's going to be a success is if Sony make the OS of the ps4k figure out whatever is currently running on the ps4,weather at 30 or 60fps,needs to output that into 4k,or 4x the resolution of the current machine, switching games on the pc from resolutions doesn't require code changes or patches,it's been a standard thing since like forever in the pc space.

Then of course if developers DID want to patch their games to support new graphical effects or tap into the new architecture on the ps4k they are free to do that too.

Sony can continue to market the 'regular' ps4 and it will still sell like hotcakes and also come out with a new system that will appeal to enthusiasts and 'hardcore' gamers, either way it's win-win for sony and this will get people to buy the ps4 twice ;)

EDIT: Don't forget the PSVR too, with most ps4 games outputting @ 30fps,Sony could get ALL AAA titles to output nativity on their VR headset @ 120fps ,take games upto 4k on tv's or keep the 1080p resolution of PSVR and bumb up the frames 4x,seems logical to me?

Banderas was funny in that. Especially the many little gunless conversations.

The Americans do. I remember the early days of the PS3 most of them having 50" 65" and see many posting to this day with their 75" and 85" screens for their Xbox One/PS4's. After all, console gaming was always about casual gaming, lounging on the sofa/bean bags and laying on the bed from a distance viewing a monstrosity of a set. Since the consoles look like the size of a disc next to them.

Lol! Not any different when AMD dropped a load of cards for driver support then?

Hehe. Dunno. I've learned to ignore crying kids by reflex. Not sure what everyone is griping or aching about these days. Though this will be a biggie

It's depressing to know that outright buying a small flat in my town costs a couple hundred grand (granted folks around here are supposed to be well off), whereas Americans can buy massive houses for less than half that. Perks of living in a big country I suppose. Space seems to be at a premium on our small island :s

I won't bother reminding you how unlikely a 4k console is right now, but think of it from the perspective of owners of existing PS4 models if it was real. They'd either be absolutely irate (games would be diverted to the new powerful console) or just buy it due to fanboyism. Though more likely the former, Sony is no Nintendo.

Speaking of which, as terrible as the idea of 'new' 3DS is, Nintendo played it safe and has released almost no 'exclusives' for it. The SNES emulation exclusivity got a little bit of backlash as it is. A 4k PS4.5 right now would possibly damage the popularity of the PS4. Prospective PS4 buyers would also be put off too. Due to pricing, it wouldn't sell very well initially, which would be the nail in the coffin, ala WiiU (which was also overpriced at release IMO).

So even if it were possible, it's not a good idea to release it right now anyway.

It's going to happen, I'm sure of it.

Older games will need updates to support better hardware, and it's not just a simple "it'll run at double the FPS and double the res"..a lot of stuff will be coded explicitly for the hardware and may involved fair bit of re-jiggling.

But as soon as Sony and MS announce their new tiered console offerings, developers ge their hands on new dev kits with all the profile tools and suchlike to easily target the different tiers, it'll become a relatively minor additional cost in the workflow.

Sure as hell beats targetting mobile devices with their gazillion aspect ratios, resolutions, GPUs, CPUs, sensors etc. Fragmenting the hardware on iOS hasn't hurt the iOS gaming scene...the writing's on the wall for consoles.

I saw one in Florida for $150,000. Huge house and garden. Some had 2 acres of land. Some double and triple garages. I could not get over the size of the houses from $150,000 to $200,000 with all that grass.

Yet here a walk in closet with a bit of pavement can cost over £500,000.

But what do they sell it as? How do they get across to the consumer what the benefit is, and how do they do so without undermining the current PS4? They obviously can't make promises about higher framerates, resolutions etc because that's down to the developers of each game, not that they'd be inclined to get technical about it anyway.

For it to be viable there needs to be a benefit to Sony, and I'm just not sure they'll see any benefit in re-releasing a console at twice the price in the middle of its life-cycle.
