PlayStation 4 Pro in-bound

Whether PC gaming goes smoothly relies no small part on luck.

Sorry, but as a gamer on both high-end PC and 2 modern consoles, that's rubbish.

If you have a stable system with adequate hardware, and there are no glaring bugs in the software (which increasingly happens with consoles as well) then PC gaming should be just as hassle free.

what he said, plus free multiplayer and cheaper digital downloads of games. Ps4 and xbox1 have both not been that big of a deal this gen compared to PC gaming apart from the prices for games seem to be much higher now for new titles on consoles.

I've had decades of no troubles at all. I've also had a years of constant dicking about. My GTX 670 was rmad 3 times. Older amd cards / drivers have caused no end of problems. Currently my PC is new build with new guts, all uptodate software/firmware etc, yet the Division keeps black screening on me at start up. Occasionally it just bombs out. I had to 'hack' my recent video drivers to get the shadows to work properly in Shadow of Mordor. I work in IT and really can't be arsed to dick around like this in my spare time.

I agree that consoles are now sharing more of these problems, but it doesn't mean PCs are hassle free. If you have the rights hardware/software/game combination you're ok. Or not - if one of the 3 has an issue you'll end up dicking around and that comes down to luck.

People obviously forgot the Nvidia driver issue with the Division update which wrecked peoples machines causing black screens and constant reboots.

I just listened to the game sound. I hit the space bar when it sounds like the character select screen. Wait for it to load in. Then hit Escape key, followed by F key then Space key again. It quit the game and sent me back to the desktop. No need to reboot.

Restart the game, and the screen came back.

It won't ever be as hassle free, because it's an open platform and the hardware and drivers are a constant moving target. It's ridiculous to pretend otherwise.

Kind of proving his point there, djkav. That doesn't work for me, btw. Occasionally alt-tab does. Sometimes alt-F4 does the trick. Other times a hard boot is the only way out. This is with an amd card.

I've yet to have an issue because of "hardware and drivers" in the last few years at least, and I can't honestly remember the last crash, lock up etc. that wasn't due to me overclocking beyond the limits of the hardware.

And are they really that much of a moving target? Yes there are tons of manufacturers, but at the end of the day it's a much smaller pool of hardware chipsets etc. that they all use. Motherboard drivers hardly ever get updated, GFX drivers maybe once a month when a new game comes out.

As I said as long as you've got a stable OS installation and a sensible range of widely supported hardware, I doubt many people get issues.

I get just as many Xbox One updates and game/app updates as I do on the PC, they are just less obvious, and that's a totally fixed platform! I also find myself having to force-quit certain apps on the XO to get them to work, YouTube being a prime example.

I've enjoyed what I've played so far this gen. Looking forward to what is to come.

Totally opposite to my experience.

To me not much has impressed me with this current generation of games. It just hasn't deserved all the hype it's received. That gaming industry has simply become too mainstream now. It was once all about games (think snes, mega drive, n64, ps1, ps2 and xbox1). Now it's all about marketing and sales.

Back in the day I had **** loads of games to play. These days I struggle to find a decent game that lives up to its hype. It's an increasing difficult task.....

Sad times.

Much of this is due to the money and risks involved in producing games these days and resulting games after developers have played it safe. Our hands our held from start to finish with waypoints, context sensitive actions and so many icons on a map you can barely see the map. We never get lost or have to work out what to do. And if we do, a hint will pop up and point us in the right direction. All while wrapping us up in the safety bubbles of regenerating health and autosaves. Where's the discovery? Where's the excitment?

Slightly related - I recently read a telling article on FF7 and how Square Enix couldn't release a game of that scope again simply because the costs involved in producing the assests would prove too much. This was their own words. We're going backwards now! But hey, look at their hair blowing in the wind and the smoke effects.

Titanfall - wasn't this a buggy mess and everyone stopped playing it after 2 months?

Rise of the Tomb Raider

Halo 5 - nobody is playing this on here apart from 3 people

Fallout 4

Forza Horizon 2

Forza 4

Witcher 3

Watch Dogs - was okay could have been a lot better

Killzone - didn't see anything special, decent enough release game

GTA V - last gen game

Dead Rising 3

The Division - too early to tell

Destiny

The Phantom Pain

Star Wars Battlefront - great for 20 minutes but not an epic game by even an 8 year olds standards

Wolfenstein

Alien Isolation

Xbox Fitness - are you for real?

Minecraft Xbox / Ps4 edition - seriously?

COD Advanced Warfare - lol same game different skin??

COD Black Ops3 - so good i played mine twice - same game different skin

a lot of the games i've not bothered with. amazing how you put last gen remakes in there and don't have the best ones like TLOU, etc.

also rocket league is honestly better than half the stuff you listed as is war thunder.

Agreed, Shadow of Mordor was awesome. I really enjoyed Mad max as well.

Most games i've played this gen i've been happy with, apart from the Order 1886 and Just Cause 3 which were both utter horse manure.

None of which are console exclusive.
Don't get me wrong I have an Xbone and PS4 but there is some truth in the lack of exclusives. Still it has some decent ones... Destiny, Halo, Forza, TLOU, GoW3 (and other remasters), until dawn, Killzone, infamous, drive club, LBP, journey. Some decent games.

I still play mostly on PC but I play exclusives on PS4 and multiplayer on Xbone as my friends have it (and Xbox live rocks). Sometimes you just wanna veg out on the sofa and play in front of a big screen.

I didn't list them as being console exclusive. The discussion appears to be around how disappointed people have been with this generation, whereas for many there has been plenty of enjoyment.

There's also been plenty of console exclusives that i've enjoyed this generation, mainly on the PS4. Bloodborne, TLOU and the Uncharted collection instantly spring to mind.

Ah fair enough. I do see where people are coming from when though, without the exclusives, you could just stick to PC/Laptop gaming, even connecting it to a large TV.

Consoles have their place IMO though.

lol, you had to use a beta driver... :o

There's your problem right there.

Also, why did you have to spend time formatting your hard drive? I've never had to do either of those things in all my years of Ps4 / X1.

What are you talking about? The only reason I used a beta driver was because they often have features and fixes that'll be featured in the upcoming versions of the driver, pretty much the same sort of thing as the developer program or whatever it's called for the Xbox One where regular people get access to the latest build of the OS.
