PlayStation 4 Pro in-bound

Sony/MS see many millions of people spending £300-500 on a phone every 2 years and they want a piece of the action.

Most people don't spend £500 on a phone in one hit though, they spend £40 a month for their contract which includes the phone.

They're already making their money from the game sales, how much profit is there realistically going to be in any new, higher-end console vs the existing model which they can manufacture comparatively cheaply?

Exactly,I don't think Sony really want to do a ps4.5 and as I said earlier it would only be to counter microsofts new box which they really need at this point in the cycle.

Is there any evidence that the small box that comes with PSVR doesn't have a CPU and/or GPU to help the PS4?

Considering the power needed for the competing VR solutions, I am convinced there is. In which case PS4.5 will just have this built in (but PS4 games cant use the extra power) and this will also allow support for 4K Blu Ray and the SonyOnline 4k streaming store thing.

Well, AMDs headset does. Wouldnt be surprised if Sony's is similar.

Doesn't seem likely, there's no connection between the PS4 and the PSVR box that would be remotely capable of carrying that sort of data back and forth quickly enough.

That and Sony have said it doesn't.

I would be all over this if it was true. I mean no one is taking away your ps4's and isn't more choice always better?
For me personally it would be especially great if it played UHD blu rays as im getting a 4K tv within the next few weeks and the ps3 was great when it came to being a blu ray player.

Were in a new age these days with things changing and upgrades coming out so quickly. If it is actually ment for 4K gaming then i'm fairly sure every game would have a 1080p version for ps4 owners and a 4K version for ps 4.5 owners so no one would lose out. Plus this can only be even better for the VR headset.

In the console world as shown before it would be brand suicide. I agree with what someone said above, this gen has been terrible. There was more to get excited about in the first 6 months of the 360's life than most of the stuff this gen. If the new gears wasn't coming I think I would have skipped this gen completely and carried on playing the 360.

I'm not blown away by either manufacturers offerings, I'd be happier with a Ps5 or xbox whatever than a refresh announcement especially if you had just bought a console.

How is this gen terrible? weve had some amazing games....bloodborne..witcher 3...uncharted 4 soon...VR coming out soon...I think its been a pretty great gen so far.

^^I'd agree. This gen has been pretty good so far in my opinion and still looks to be getting better. A lot of my most anticipated titles haven't even come out yet. FFXV, Uncharted 4 and The Last Guardian in particular.

You have mentioned 2 games. And 2 things yet to be released.

Its been crap. At thisnpoint in the ps1 life cycle i could have named about 30 games which all had been superb.

Titanfall

Rise of the Tomb Raider

Halo 5

Fallout 4

Forza Horizon 2

Forza 4

Witcher 3

Watch Dogs

Killzone

GTA V

Dead Rising 3

The Division

Destiny

The Phantom Pain

Star Wars Battlefront

Wolfenstein

Alien Isolation

Xbox Fitness

Minecraft Xbox / Ps4 edition

COD Advanced Warfare

COD Black Ops3

You really do love the sound of your own e-voice don't you? You spout your opinions like fact, as though you have some awesomely eclectic critical opinion, when we have rarely seen anything of the sort from you. You seem to Google like mad and get some knowledge in some specific area of AV hardware, enough to contribute to threads and appear knowledgeable, but for the love of all that is holy please reign in that unwarranted arrogance. You are fast becoming highly obnoxious and irritating.

If this turns out to be true, I'll be going straight back to PC gaming. The main benefit of a console is it being a fixed platform. Games get more impressive over time as developers learn to eak more out of the tech and you don't have to worry about performance. It is what it is. Buy one and you're set for a generation. But now there's a better version of your console running games at a better frame rate - would you be happy playing on the lesser variant? I certainly wouldn't be (especially as the frame rate has never been that steller on the PS4 in the first place!) Will developers be pushing the hardware to it's limit on my sub par console, or coding for the new? We already know the answer to that.
