"It's always a good time to be an online gamer with an Xbox One, the cost of an Xbox Live Gold subscription seemingly drops every week with lowest pricing hitting the £18 mark for a years subscription. Not so much for Playstation owners however, currently a years subscription for the ability to use Sony's online capabilities and Instant Game Collection will set you back £39.99 on the Playstation Store with CDKeys periodically dropping to around the £33 mark.

Of course there is also the monthly (£5.49) and three monthly (£11.99) and options for those who prefer not to commit to the Playstation Plus subscription model. Unfortunately that is all set to change as of 1st September 2015 as both the monthly and three monthly subscriptions are to be increased in price. Although no confirmation has been made for the monthly subscription cost, 3 months is set to rise from £11.99 to £14.99 as confirmed by Sony in response to PushSquare.com

"We are dedicated to bringing PlayStation Plus members the best possible service with the most compelling content," a statement sent to us from SCEUK said. "From 1st September we will be increasing the price of monthly and three month PlayStation Plus subscriptions in line with market conditions. We will continue to invest in PlayStation Plus to ensure an unparalleled experience, featuring the best quality games and features."

With the recent downtime and slow downloads users of Playstation have encountered as of late this is probably not the best time for Sony to be hiking their now mandatory (online PS4 experience) subscription service, is it?"

Recent?? Its always been this way, routine maintenance, slow downloads etc its what psn is known for. I cant believe they are increasing it at this point but ive already decided not to re-up this time as i havent benefitted from plus this year at all really and dont play online at these days.

Plus used to seem like a good deal back in the ps3 days i must say

I'm starting to think PS+ is a "you should have been there" thing. Now that it's needed for online play, maybe they don't feel the need to give much away. As much as I can't believe the games I have installed on my PS3 from it, it would be hard to recommend it to someone now.

Well maybe not if they own a PS4. The PS3 still seems to be getting some decent releases though, unless you've already played them.

It was much better before though.

Crikey. Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris is giving my PS4 a good thrashing. Never heard the fan going so mad before and even got stuttering in some parts. First time I've seen that on a PS4 game. Is it bad coding or is my PS4 dusty?

Does the same on my PS4, runs OK for a bit then the fans go mad and it starts to stutter at random points.

The PS4 is just too compact for its own good. Hate the fact its soo noisy.

I see they failed to note that the Xbox Live subscriptions are already set at that price. There's no problem for Sony to set their prices at the same level as their competitors as far as I'm concerned. I wouldn't be at all surprised if their monthly subscription moved in line with Microsoft's price of £5.99.

I knew from the way that article was written it was going to be biased and there you have it.

I'm sure PS+ will have better games over time, as will GwG, but the best "free" game subscription has to be EA Access, just for the sheer number of £40+rrp games they add to the vault. So far the vault has the following:

Battlefield 4
Madden NFL 25
FIFA 14
Peggle 2
Need For Speed Rivals
Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare
EA Sports UFC
NBA Live 15
Madden NFL 15
NHL 15
FIFA 15
Titanfall
Dragon Age: Inquisition

But the best thing about it is, unlike PS+ and GwG, all the games are permanently available meaning signing up now gives access to all previous games that have been added. I would love it if PS+ and GwG would follow suit.

EA access is great if you like their sport franchises. Personally I have no interest in anything on that list other than BF4 and (at a push) Dragonage.
