Figured it's a gaming laptop, hence the higher wattage

I currently use a Dell Precision 5510 (workstation) laptop at work. This has a 240w PSU and it only has an Nvidia M1000M GPU so nothing that special in my opinion.

I have 2 Alienware laptops - one has a 240W power brick and the latest one (with the 1070 GPU) has a very large (physically) 330W power brick. 180 seems far too low considering that gaming laptops tend to use hungry GPUs.

300plus watts is a stupidly large amount of power to try and cool in a laptop form factor, no wonder these things are heavy and loud.

All the more reason to assume the problem is either power related, as in not enough, or cooling related.
As i said before dont assume just because Dell and the computer shop have said bla bla is ok it is... I would read what they said and then suspected the complete opposite to be honest.
