Plus-sized traveler demands free seats

I would class that level of over-weight as being a medical issue and airlines don't have a responsibility to supply medical transport. If they want to, sure, but not force them to.

Laziness shouldn't be classes as an medical issue.

I have worked with people who are wheelchair bound because they never had or loss the ability to walk. Yet they are not overweight.

Well for starters, airlines should stop making seats that only kids can sit comfortable in. Why do airlines insist on cramming as much tiny seats as possible in a plane?

As an aside - most (if not all) airlines use standard weights to account for the weight of passengers in the cabin. The 84kg that the airline calculated this lady weights also includes 8kg of hand luggage. I'd just like the stress the importance of getting the mass and balance calculations correct when operating a large passenger aircraft, for all the nervous flyers out there.........

profits isnt it........ in November i got a return to Palma (Majorca) with Rysanair for under £60 (around £120 with parking for a week and a suitcase). you wont get that if you halve the number of seats.
That said i think things HAVE gotten better the last few years....... modern seats on planes like Ryan air or Jet2 seem to take up far less space than they used to so for the same number of seats you get a few more inches leg room. Sure you dont get the TVs and what not built into them, but then most people have a tablet these days. just last week i flew with Jet2 for over 4 hrs to Tenerife and i was quite impressed with the legroom.

I definitely struggle less than i did 20 years ago - despite being more podgy than i was 20 years ago (leg room has increased and thankfully my bellyroom requirement is still less than my legroom requirement ;)

IF you are a (much) larger person however they really should fly with a plane which offers premium+ economy or what ever the company call it, which gives a little more space for the cash.

its a bit like people with kids so they have to sit together getting in a tizzy because they are not all together despite choosing not to pay for it (and you cant not pay accidentally...... the booking always tries to force you to cough up)...... I oft wonder if those news articles where people were pressured to move despite them paying to prebook their seats...... do they get a refund?.... a miner segue perhaps but its all linked. if you need more space, choose a plane with a seat which offers more space.

Some years back, I remember seeing this fat as **** woman getting onto double decker bus, and as she stepped in the bus swayed like a ship in a storm. I looked at the driver and he looked at me, and we started laughing :D

Since when has economy ever been comfy?
i just flew with Ryanair and Wizzair recently, and find their seats okay for 2h flights, even middle seats..
Said that, I will never fly with wizzair again, they changed most of flights I ever booked with them..

I'm not the tallest but I have long legs, always damned uncomfortable for me but I don't believe I'm being discriminated against, it's just how I'm built.

Sure I could pay for extra leg room but I won't on short haul, I just suck it up for a few hours. Long haul is only business class, couldn't do economy like that.

But to be comfy I pay more, it's just physics.

Edit: I have noticed with the cheaper airlines the same thing. Plus they always estimate a two hour flight to be way longer, probably so they can say 'oh we were on time or early 99% of the time'.

I'm very overweight and need to lose about a third of my body weight, but I agree with most of the posters on here that being fat is normally down to lifestyle choices. If you can't fit into an economy seat for something you did out of choice, then I'm afraid you'll have to fork out (pun intended!) for business class.

It's unfortunate for tall guys who can't fit into economy out of choice, but on the plus side, the tall guys get all of the wimmin :D
