Plusnet Discussion Thread

I did the same. Currently £28 for standard broadband (+ bt sport). They offered me another 12 month contract at £36!!!

I'm looking at plusnet (ofc) but these problems kind of putting me off. I'm doing a bit of research right now on Zen, Uno and Pulse8 too. Not sure who I will go with in the end.

I am with Pulse8 and they are excellent. Also the rolling one month contract is a huge plus.

Aren't Zen considered one of, if not the best consumer ISP in the country, why would you want to leave in the first place?

Money. By Switching to BT I could save a fair amount with new customer deals.

Plus Zen annoyed me when they refused to do a DLM reset. Got my mate to do it (works for Openreach) and I gained over 5 meg.

Zen have gone downhill since that guy left, can't remember his name. He went to TalkTalk who are now meant to be good.

Odd. Plusnet have done it for me whenever I've asked. Does Openreach charge them for doing it or something?

No idea. Sky did it no problems, Zen gave me a load of tosh about leaving the line to settle and flat out refused to do it.

OR can do it remotely now, I just text my mate my home number and whenever he has time he does it for me.

going insane with the crappy plusnet. i am due to be transfered over the there fibre tomorrow.

where do i stand with this ?
been on the normal broadband for a week it was totally shocking so asked to be put on fibre, now what if the fibre is shocking too where do i legally stand if i want to find another provider ?

Speed is half what they said. But that's not the issue. For the past few weeks the Internet drops out like every few minutes. Even worse today,!

I'm thinking of switching to PN's 38Mb 18 month contract. The only alternatives in my area are TalkTalk, Sky and John Lewis, all of which are more expensive. Is plusnet the best option?

Go with Sky.

PlusNet and TalkTalk 38Mb services are both limited to 2Mb upload, Sky is 10Mb not sure about John Lewis.

I was lucky enough to have some leverage over PlusNet which forced them into letting me have the 80/20 package even though my line only gets 38Mb.

I'm currently looking at the Sky option on broadbandchoices.co.uk and the upload speed is advertised as 'up to 2Mb'. It could be wrong though.

Plusnet's current deal is £5pm for the first 18 months (not including line rental) and Sky's is £10pm for the first 12 months. Would you say it's worth the extra fiver per month for the increased upload? I have had the misfortune of experiencing 2Mb upload speeds on the rare occasion I've needed it so I'm torn between the two options.

What's more annoying is Plusnet's insistence on doing 18 month contracts instead of 12. I'm currently renting a flat in London with 3 others and it'll be a while before we decide if we want to stay or find somewhere else to live in a year's time.

So due to move into my first house on Thursday. Exciting times :)

A few month back I did a search for broadband speeds in the area and all providers could only offer me around 5mb so imagine my surprise when purely out of curiosity I did a search for my area again and low and behold I can now get fibre:cool:

I stream a lot of 4K content on Netflix so probably worthwhile me getting the unlimited fibre extra at £10 for 6 months then £20 thereafter with line rental on top. Same package with BT is £25 a month with £19pm line rental and if my maths is correct I'll save quite a bit too.

Does up to 76mb d/l and up to 19mb u/l seem a good ratio?

Also looking into EE as they are my phone contract supplier and may be able to do me and even better deal.

previous providers have been fine on the line, only when switching to plusnet did these issues arise.

They royally screwed up my connection when they added someone else in the area to their network. They did fix it but it took at least a week so I'd open a support ticket with them. Also do the quiet line test (if you have a landline) and the BT wholesale speed check too, as evidence of issues.
