Plusnet Discussion Thread

It looks like broadband choices is inaccurate when it comes to fibre deals within my area. I checked the openreach website and fibre isn't available in my area yet. It's apparently in the process of "activation" whereby they check the safety or something which, for some reason, is going to take four months. Does anyone know if it'll really take four months for this?

Edit: Are Sky and Plusnet's non-fibre speeds identical? I can't seem to find any info about their upload speeds.

well my fibre is due to go live today, been on chat and explained that my current broadband with them is ****, full of drop outs doing my head in, he said oh it could be a setting issue and has changed the signal to noise ratio so all should be fine in a few hours ??

why didn't the last guy do that on live chat.

Have Sky improved recently? Brother uses them and my parents used too and the speeds were shocking. Will take a look though.

Sky FTTC has never been 'shocking'. I've certainly never read of any congestion issues, they're once of the best FTTC providers.

In the last 6+ years of having Sky, I've never had any broadband issues. And that's with multiple address changes too :)

BT Broadband however, what a joke

Might be different in different parts of the country though and how far you are from the cabinet and how busy it is etc will have an effect. My parents whilst I've lived here have went Virgin -> Sky -> Virgin and have stayed with Virgin for a few years now.

Everyone will have different experiences with the same ISPs which is to be expected :)

Plusnet looks to be the best price vs performance for me.

Plusnet Unlimited Extra: £10 a month for 6 month then £20 there after plus £18 line rental.
BT Infinity 2: £25 a month straight away plus £19 line rental.
Sky: Is confusing. If I go to them directly I get up to 8mb. Do a check on my postcode on a broadband comparison website and I can get up to 38mb.

How long does it take for your profile to go back up to the max?

We had some electrical work done recently and means the power went off a few times, looks like its triggered the DLM system on my line, the profile has dropped a little bit as I'm maxing out at about 68Mb/s. (I've been a stable 74Mb for as long as I've had FTTC, 3+ years.)

On the day I moved from Plusnet they sent me an email saying they had closed a ticket I'd sent a couple of months ago about the issues I was having (loss of speed in the evenings etc)
They didn't bother answering it in that time, just closed it when I left.
They used to be good.

You say that about PlusNet but they have widely reported issues right now.

Countrywide? Or specific areas? All ISPs experience problems at some stage. BT is more expensive and the reviews don't all say they are worth the price either.
