pointless omg look at my car post

if you specified the amg kit on a normal merc, it came with the badging
just like you get M badges on a bmw with the m packet

Rarely, and this one doesn't even have the AMG kit.

To be fair, I consider myself a car enthusiast but would not think that it wasn't an AMG mainly due to the quad tailpipes and other than that wouldn't be able to name any other differences for that model of S class. The badge looks pretty cool and the car does have AMG parts on it so I see no reason why it should be removed.

Well I wouldn't call yourself an enthusiast if you couldn't spot the differences. The car doesn't have an AMG bodykit, there are no AMG calipers and the biggest giveaway is that the pre-facelift AMG only had a dual exhaust. The badge does look cool, on a genuine AMG, the only parts I can see on that car are the alloys. It's entirely up to jez whether he keeps the badge or not, in my opinion it just looks silly because it doesn't have anything AMG about it apart from the alloys and exhaust tips.

I can't see the problem with it tbh, he is not trying to make it appear to be an S55, it clearly says S430 on the left. Seems to be just the same as the non-M BMW's with M badging.

They will if the vehicle is stolen.

If the car was stolen, they'd never know what badges were on it.

If it was recovered, they'd presumably not be paying out anyway?

So i'm not sure it would make much of a difference in reality would it?

gurdas, are you sure Merc didnt do what BMW did with M and have the badge as a dealer fit option? Chap down the road has an E320 CDI Sport which he has owned since brand new - it has an AMG badge in exactly the same place as Jez's and he isn't the sort to care about badging a car up. Again, it says E320 the other side.

There was never such a car as an S430 AMG so it looks clear to me it's an S430 with some AMG products fitted?

The AMG badge is just an accessory obtainable from Parts.

We sometimes get people asking for these to be put on their cars before delivery.

A lot of people just go and buy them from parts, cost about £45 I think.

Same with BMW - there is a range of M branded stuff for most of the range in the Accessories catalouges, designed to complement the Sport/M Sport models.

I honestly don't see the problem with it how its done - if it said S55 AMG then obviously thats totally different but it isnt being passed off at all - there is no S430 AMG, but there is an S430 with AMG bits.

Same here, although I'd remove the S430 badge.

It's the customers request to have the badge. I don't really see the point in asking to have an AMG badge on it when what AMG represents is more than a few styled accessories, which this car doesn't even have bar the alloys. The car will not have an AMG exhaust system, you can buy chrome AMG tips from ebay that screw onto standard pipes.

when we had a c class sports coupe (2001), the AMG kit comprised of skirts, lowered suspension, centred front foglights and an AMG badge on the boot..

Thanks for the kind comments. BigT, the tints look good, i think i may well do it in due course. :)

Re the badge discussion, either the previous owner fitted it or it came on the car as new, i am really not interested enough in what models came with it to have looked into it any further really. It looked nice to me when i bought it, and imo it looks nice now, so it might as well stay on there.

List of to job's on it are to get some paintless ding removal, get the tints done, get the alloys refurbished as i have mullered them with my leet parking skills, and finally sort the weird issue with the airmatics.

Whats wrong with the Airmatic?

If you don't drive it very often and leave it somewhere uneven, you will find the car a bit sloped until you start it up.

It sinks at the back when there is lots of load in the car and the wheels scrape when going over bumps. I keep meaning to sort it out but its always on the road and it isnt much of an issue with the use the car gets, so its getting put aside week after week.

As for usage, its getting nearly 2000 miles per week put onto it at the moment with my current project

Awesome car. It's arguably still one of the best cars in the world (certainly one of the best I've ever experienced) for second hand Mondeo money. Congrats :).

Horrible colour but you can't see that from the inside ;).

yikes

thats almost like commuting from leeds to london 5 times a week.

Thats pretty much what im doing, live near newbury and doing places like bolton/leeds/preston etc as day trips :)

Adz, first one to say you dont like the colour, in real life (imo of course!) it looks really nice.
