Yeah and way too much effort to bypass got to restore stock images then load that mod. Not going to do a factory reset just to play a game that was starting to get a bit repetitive anyway. Will keep it installed for a bit to see if they go back on the decision but if not it will be gone

I guess you could blame those who abused the game rather than those trying to stop people abusing the game?

Oh indeed - but it appears everyone likes to gloss over "wrong doing" and blame companies.
People mess around with the game and cheat - Niantic's fault.
People pirate music & games - companies fault for adding copy proection
Hacker group hacks bank and publishes personal details - well done them.

Obviously these companies want people who are going to spend money. So they want to boot out the cheaters and keep it fun for those people. To fix the issue they have gone about it the wrong way alas.
SUrely the easiest fix is - client sends location signal, client sends another location signal - could that new location have been reached legitiamtely in that time? If yes, continue, if no - ban.

That already happens, but there are plenty of mods/hacks that let you spoof and nto flag the system by not teleporting you large distances, and keeping your speed in check.
