Pokemon GO! (2016)

Yeah at 400cp, you are no where near having a fighting chance at gyms.

What level are you? If you aren't above level 20, I would completely forget about being on multiple gyms. Fight a low one, cash in for the coins, work on getting more of those Eevee's.

Yeah so in terms of defensive Pokemon, I'm not too great. I'm lvl19. There are a few local gyms to work which I keep having a pop at, getting my Pokemon into. Never seem to stay there long though.

Nice to see my Lapras with Ice Shard/Ice Beam isn't as bad as it once was pre patch (along with my Confusion Slowbros and Bubble Poliwrath), shame having good gym defenders is pointless though :D.

Anyone seen the blog post by Niantic about disabling the bots and trackers? It appears to show that server load dropped by 66% when they made the change, but the graph has no scale so no idea if that's actually the case or not. It could be the same as when you see graphs posted by nVidia/AMD where the graph starts at 90 and goes to 100 making it look like there's a much bigger difference than there actually is.

Hopefully they update that because having the scale missing is pretty suspicious imo.

Of course their load dropped, people using the trackers would spam as many locations as possible to find specific pokemon and at the same time be in the game running around.

Now with no tracker, and ingame tracking still wildly off, I don't think they will be playing as much.

The bots and trackers only really got going after their server instability problems though (can't play tonight because logins down? meh leave the bot to do the catch up whilst you sleep :p).

Yes, of course it's wrong. Everyone knows that what you're supposed to do is wait for someone to defeat a gym and then put your own in while they're healing their dudes to put one in :D.

I was walking past a gym at lunch time the other day and I noticed it go grey, so popped a CP10 magikarp in there just to amuse myself. As I was walking away a friend from work who I hadn't spotted shouted over to ask me what the **** I was doing. Seems he'd just taken the gym. :D

Obviously load dropped, nobody is denying that, what I'm saying is that without showing the scale the graph is meaningless, and there's no reason to not label it other than incompetence or to mislead people.

So I'm level 29, 25 left to find.... gyms are pointless, even plonking in a cp 2500+ you get insta defeated.

Yup, used a bot from 22 onwards, now bots have API issues...... game is dead for me

I'm never throwing another pokeball :)

Got a garbage Pidgey from a 2km egg but caught a Scyther 692cp, was walking to a poke stop that is never lured due to its placement but was today and there was around 4 people looking for it to lol.
Told them where I found it but I also had incense on, not sure if it'll be there for them.

If they were looking for it (ie it was showing on their nearby) then it'll be there, unless there was an incense one and a normal one.

Incense spawns have the same pink animation around them that your character has when you're using it btw.

Didn't see any animation around it, well that was a waste of my last incense then. It was in my nearby list for 5 minutes before I decided I might as well find it. Incense should spawn the Pokemon in your nearby list at your location.
Gastly is a pain to catch, all over 100cp seem to escape great balls and some even disappear, the most difficult Pokemon to catch for me.

They took a leaf out of Nintendo's book, expect more "stability" updates next week when they get back in the office after tonight's findings.

I wish their battery saver mode actually worked on Android. Getting spammed to death by lures in the background and other gyms fighting make it laggy on my G4 such that it heats right up to nearly the point of no touch response. How can I even dodge if the game is misinterpreting my inputs as just attacks?

Question, just found and caught my first flareon 669cp. I thought meh, however used the iv rater and it said between 48% and 93.3% I powered up and it went to 708cp and an extra 2hp and rated 93%! Is this too low to mess with (1000dust) and should I wait to evolve one higher or do I keep and boost this? Advice appreciated

That's an excellent eevee. Evolve asap.

It's a Flareon, not an Eevee :(.

I wouldn't bother tbh, you'll be able to find Eevees at that CP low-mid 20s or something. Getting a good Eevee isn't actually that hard since the Attack IV is tied to Pokedex number, so Eevees, Magikarps etc pretty much all have 14/15 attack (and the opposite is true with starters, you generally want to find one in an egg to evolve), this means you only need good rolls on Stam/Def which is much easier :).

1 out of 57 Eevees should be at least 15/13/13 if you assume that Eevee can only roll 14+ attack (which is pretty much true afaik).

Also remember that IVs only matter if you're going to keep them max leveled since CP is just a single number representing the combined Att/Def/Sta, so if you aren't actually maxing the pokemon out having better IVs isn't better than having high CP.

Obviously you can keep the pokemon, but I wouldn't spend anything on it until much later if you ever do since it's pretty likely you'll find better (or close enough and much cheaper) :).

Edit: Also, don't forget to see how good it's moves are, bad moves can make much more of a difference to damage (in general, I'm sure there's some that are all pretty close) than IVs, generally IVs only make up around 10% of a pokemons actual stats or something.

For example Flareons base stats are 238/138/130 (IVs are added on top of this) even compared to a 0/0/0 a perfect Flareon isn't massively better when compared to the upto 30% difference a bad moveset can do.

Edit 2: Flareons moves are all fairly close actually (similar to the difference between 0% and 100% IVs) their relative damage is Fire Blast 100% Offence 90% Defence, Flamethrower 93% Offence 100% Defence, Heat Wave 92% Offence 82% Defence.

Hmm, this has got me thinking. I've been holding off evolving and in some cases powering up because of poor IVs, but how often am I actually going to maximise anything?

I got a Dragonite last week and haven't bothered powering him up as he has fairly crap IVs (60% to 66%), but am I ever going to get it to max level anyway, apparently I'd need 260700 Dust and 292 Candy, that's not gonna happen is it. So would I be better off just powering him up as far as I can now? I believe he also has the best moves he can have.
