Police advising to AVOID ALL TRAVEL in Central & Lothian & Borders areas from 2pm-9pm

bloody wind, its twanging the ariel on my taxi :(

just came home and found both our wheelie bins strewn across the garden too :(

You might get eaten by a snake, punched on a tram by a black man, or attacked by a gang of muslims. Best to never go outside.

It's embarrasing how much we overreact to everything in this country :(

I don't know.

Every car I've ever driven on some exposed "southern" roads have been affected by relatively mild winds (20-30mph), I'd hate to see how they would cope in 90mph gusts, and that's before the chances of things like trees shedding branches, and random junk being blown around.

Any exposed road can be dicey in high winds, and Scotland has a lot of them.
That's before considering the affects of high winds on things like bridges which are much more exposed by nature than most roads.

Also, as higher winds are relatively rare here, trees don't get "pruned" as much by them on a regular basis, which means that when we do get them, there is much more chance that they will lose branches.

[edit]
Apparently gusts of 130mph have now been recorded in Scotland...

It removes peoples inclination or ability to carry out personal risk assessment. The next time its windy people will think well they didn't tell me not to travel so I am obviously fine to make an unnecessary trip in bad weather.

It's really not just windy though is it :o

In clydebank and its a normal windy day bit gusty but nothing serious ...amazed they keep kids off school for this they'd be safer in school than out and about the streets.

by the way you have to put your jacket on then use it as a sail by putting your arms above your head. its the law if you are under 10 :D

All schools are closed in Fife and now it looks like they've closed the Forth Road Bridge completely. I don't remember getting days off school in my day due to a little breeze

lol wut?

being on the forth road bridge with 50 mph winds feels shifty, i can only imagine with 90mph winds, motorbikes and lorries would no longer be on the bridge
