Police advising to AVOID ALL TRAVEL in Central & Lothian & Borders areas from 2pm-9pm

Loks rather windy in Scooooootland! It's windy here in Shropshire, I just hope it doesn't get to the point where it starts sending slates off the roof and damaging frail tin roofs!

It removes peoples inclination or ability to carry out personal risk assessment. The next time its windy people will think well they didn't tell me not to travel so I am obviously fine to make an unnecessary trip in bad weather.

Please tell us how have done your "personal risk assessment" on this?

That is just rubbish. The average person does not know much about weather forecasting or the effects of certain types of weather. The fact that people in this thread are joking about life threatening meterological conditions hgihlights the naivety of the general public Some peopple are scofffing at 90MPG gusts, that could easily kock you over, run a car off the road, blow a roof off a house. When a weather event is forecast to occur that has the potential to take lives, cause extensive damage to property, and severe travel disruption it is not only advisable for the government to give such warning but morally required to protect the citizens' safety.

You can imagine the news headlines if no warning was given and people died! Better to give the warning, inform the people that a severe and unusual event is happening, and hope that nothing to serious occurs.

Seriously at all the people sat down in England saying it's an over-reaction, there are lorries and vans lying on their side round here, my shed roof has blown off and it's very difficult to walk outside without getting blown over. I have never seen it this bad.

It is rather windy here! Decided to not travel to Glasgow to see my girlfriend.

It's been getting worse in the last hour but even before that we had a bins getting blown down the street. :D

Edinburgh airport have suspended all flights and a double-decker bus went over in Dalry.

Lots of felled trees blocking major routes such as the A82, A830 and A828 - hence why the Police advised not to travel.

It is quite breezy here. Just seen a wheelie bin take off and hit a car outside my flat. Was going to be driving home today but my mum called and told me not to bother as there are two trees down on the road there.

So...
Heating on! :D
Tea Brewed! :D
Slippers! :D
Study time :(

Crazy wind here, and I'm in a pretty built up area. Convinced the TV aerial on the flats opposite is going to snap off anytime now. Even the motorway street lights are bending a bit.

The forecast isn't as bad for the next few days, so hopefully today will be the worst of it.
