I had to Google that reference... last appeared on TV in 1998 (first appeared 1965, good innings) but I've no recollection of the name, the face does recall something though.

He was a figure of ridicule. He said some horrible things but always lost.

Alf Garnett had a son in law in the series, one Anthony Booth, Cherie Blaire's (nee Cherie Booth's) father. He played a Liverpudlian socialist layabout.

There's plenty of episodes on You Tube.

Created by Johnny Speight, Till Death Us Do Part centred on the East End Garnett family, led by patriarch Alf Garnett (Warren Mitchell), a reactionary white working-class man who holds anti-socialist views. His long-suffering wife Else was played by Dandy Nichols, and his daughter Rita by Una Stubbs. Rita's husband Mike Rawlins (Anthony Booth) is a socialist layabout from Liverpool who frequently locks horns with Garnett. Alf Garnett became a well-known character in British culture, and Mitchell played him on stage and television until Speight's death in 1998.

In addition to the spin-off In Sickness and in Health, Till Death Us Do Part was remade in several countries including Germany (Ein Herz und eine Seele), and the Netherlands (In voor- en tegenspoed [nl]), and it is the show that inspired All in the Family in the United States[1], which, in turn, inspired the Brazilian (A Grande Família). Many episodes from the first three series are thought to no longer exist, having been wiped in the late 1960s and early 1970s as was the policy at the time.

Although Speight said he wrote the series to challenge racism, it was felt by some critics that many people watched it because they agreed with Garnett's views.[2] The linguist Alan Crosby has argued that the constant use of the phrase "Scouse git" with reference to Anthony Booth's character spread both the word "Scouse" and negative stereotypes of Liverpudlians.[3]

In 2000, the show was ranked number 88 on the 100 Greatest British Television Programmes list compiled by the British Film Institute

Is this really any worse than most of the other threads in GD? I hate to bring it up but its good to see a thread not dedicated to some form of racism.
I hereby dedicate this thread to some form of racism.

Something something "send them back".

Slow day at the Office of Social Justice?

I usually stay out of this sort of thread but I'm glad I poked my nose into this one.

The self assured agenda pushing, bitching back and forth, constant backpeddling, contradictions, misguided insults, condescention, and hypocricy have been incredibly entertaining... I haven't even needed to say much! :D

And the best bit is... The subject of the thread isn't even that big of a deal!

I also love that the request for a poll has been ignored, and I am slightly surprised that the thread is even still open at all.

Incredible. Keep it up lads. Gives me something to read. :)

I didn't know that was a thread requirement. Are you sure it is?

That said, it certainly triggered a high volumes of posts from people very keen to weigh in on the subject and protect their investment in all things Boris.

I hope you know what I meant, but just in case...

The resulting fuss is more amusing because its not about anything particularly important.

[...] posts from people very keen to [...] protect their investment in all things Boris.

I really don't think that is whats happening here... For example I didn't vote for him and I think he is a floudering buffoon. I also think he is on holiday in a cottage and/or tent with his family, not snorting coke off a railing on a billionaires yacht. :D

But please carry on, I'm going to make a cuppa.

Yacht, possibly.
Cottage, likely.
Bell Tent, no chance. Look at the hill it's pitched on, there's no way you could sleep in that. It's been thrown up for photo opportunities only.

That's what I should have led with.

 You live and learn.

Why should you? Are you simply taking someone's statement as truth because it fits your narrative? Have you verified that those types of glamping tents don't have their own levelling base?

You need to be more objective and less defensive. Don't be so closed minded.

I went camping once.

Was rather nice and would recommend it.

We're hoping it stays dry so we can pack ours away today.

I guess Q could have provided Boris with a self leveling tent, but it's clutching at straws I think. It doesn't even look like it's been erected properly.
