it'll never be that expensive if it's aimed at gamers, more like 450 quid, all of you have your prices wrong, way too high

Hah, if they are £450 all in I will buy two!

When I bought my 3960X it was about 1k + VAT on release day.

I've gave the ROG SWIFT a miss as I don't need a new monitor and considering I could get a 5820k, 16gb of DDR 4 and an X99 mobo for around the same price I may upgrade.

...........you're more money than sense and you cant deny this.......a GPU maybe yes, but not a CPU.

the CPU feels like it's worth (compared to the rest of the rig) about 200 quid to maybe 300 quid.

I saw the pre-edit :)

It isn't just about gaming though. I run a business where computers are used for design work and all my old components get recycled to people that appreciate them and they keep working for years after I am done with them.

ebay wont be any cheaper either, because from America you'll have to pay import duty/postage too, plus you wont find any bargains on new stock anywhere else, you never do; only two years later

there isn't a way around this, the only thing you can do is to buy the cheapest DDR4 CPU !!!!!

You cant wait a year for the prices to drop because by then another much better cpu will be about to come out, maybe even an AMD :D:D

So you'll need to budget for about 600 quid.........mobo/cpu/ram

Mal are you just replying to yourself or something?

The way around it is not upgrading or buying something from the current gen that will be just as good for most tasks people on this forum carry out.

Is buying a 5960x just for gaming necessary? Of course not but some people like striving for the best :)

I'm definitely upgrading tomorrow as long as the right bits are in stock like the x99 deluxe and avexir platinum and the 5820k :)

@ Gibbo, if we order X99 when it goes live this afternoon will there be Saturday delivery?

Whoever can deliver tomorrow will be getting my money :P

This is the first time I can recall being around for the live announcement of significant new toys arriving in the store (before Intel told naughty OCuk off for a pre-1700 BST preview), the forum and e-store have been a crazy frenzy for ~80mins!
