how much better is it then my 4930k at 4.5ghz? i only see my chip in one or two slides most?
Mate, x99 and haswell-E are enthusiast level. They are the TOP tier of computing intel has to offer. Period. There is no entry level on the whole platform, it's the best but you have to pay for it.
Google is your friend![]()
Sounds like a lot of people trying to tell themselves why they don't have to buy because newer design and more expensive does not equal better.
It dooeesssss!!!
it doesn't if you're a gamer only...... please read the reviews above, it's the same or only 4 fps faster.
gamers dont want to upgrade to X99 because they're not stupid, because have you read what the Broadwell will be like ???.... read the link i posted up, you will get a far more powerful CPU and maybe at Xmas.
you lot are spending a fortune right now and you'll deffo regret it, because Broadwell will be miles better and due out soon
you dont need to be a Rocket scientist to suss this out
Broadwell for desktop will be more like April. Intel are more worried about laptop and tablet sales.
Broadwell is just a shrink of Haswell. It will be a non-event for enthusiasts and is expected to arrive later in 2015 as a K SKU. Skylake will be the real deal, new arch, around this time next year.
For gaming Haswell-E offers an improved gaming experience with multi-GPU setups, not necessarily peak numbers, but smoother and less stutter due to increased PCI lanes over Z97 based chips.
If your running three or more GPU's then X79 or X99 platform gives a better experience and their is even an improvement with just two GPU's.
Yeah I still don't get it. Even in gaming the stock clocked 5820K @ 3.6Ghz keeps up with the 4790K @ 4.4Ghz. I'm really not seeing much not to like with the 5820K, A £285 chip that bests the 4960X (£750), I really don't see how anyone can be disappointed, but then there are always people that are just very hard to please![]()
What isn't there to get? If your already on a 4790k and all you do is game it's not a worthwhile upgrade. That's what the gent said.
Here's a variety of game title results on a single and a dual card set up.

The following page has the same games tested with the cpu's both overclocked,

Intel release 5820K (£285)... Beats 4960X (£750)..
People still complain !
I think you're chip overclocked will be comparable. I mean for people already on high end Z79 with 4930K/4960X there is little reason to move to a 5820K as performance could be similar, the upgrade for you guys would be the 5960X, 2 extra cores better IPC etc, might be worth it.
For those building now though 5820K giving 4960X like performance for little money makes sense. Buying into a new platform that will give at least two years at the very high end. You can pick up a X99 mobo for £150 that arguably is better than the £150 Z97 mobo's the chip itself £285. It's only the memory that stings a bit but then at least you're buying into a future standard so it that sense it might retain it's value better than someone going out and buying DDR3 today.
The performance VS price has surprised a lot of people, in that respect I think 5820K + X99 has made the mainstream stuff somewhat redundant for new system builders in that same (Z97 + 4790K) price range..
Because it is still an expensive enthusiasts CPU that offers the same PCI lanes as a core i7 920 from 2008. To many including me that is a step backwards even so if it has 6 cores.
I agree tbh, if I was building a system today I'd def go for a 5820K-based one. But is it worth me switching? No, esp because I have a nicely clocked 4770K
But the X99's are better value than I thought they'd be!! If I get a silly offer for mine I'll be making the switch![]()
