Popular games you just don't get

God of War....I just can't get into it, I've gone back to it 3 times now...
I bought the Witcher 3 at xmas so it's further pushed down the road now, only thing in it's favour is I'm waiting on my new 34" curved monitor to be delivered.

Gonna get some stick for this........... Witcher 3

I've tried time and time again to get into it but its just always, meh, somehow, and now it won't even run since the update when I tried it again, yeah, real swell
I’ve tried 10 times to get into it and decided it just wasn’t for me. I know I’m in the minority.

Nah I totally agree.

I've tried to love it 4 times now. But the endless amounts of dialogue mixed with the roly poly combat is just not for me.
Roly poly combat is also probably the reason why I also cant stand the Dark Souls / Elden Ring games.

Also as an M&K player they all control like a sack of turds on an ice rink.

I'm with you. I love the in game card game but the combat is awful, I don't mind the lore but all t he potion chugging annoys the hell out of me.

I've tried numerous times over the years to get into it.

I know what you mean about the inventory management chore in Borderlands, I think I commented on it in my review. Mass EFfect suffers from the same issue but not quite as extreme.
But for some that's part of the appeal, the dopamine hit of picking up new gear and seeing what you get.

For me I'd say:
  • Halo. Just seems like a really basic shooter (you can only carry like 2 guns at once and little variety), a lot of boring samey corridors. Fighting pretty dull for the most part just pew pew pew oh my gun is out of ammo i'll pick up another one. The fight is over and I now need to ran around picking up all the guns to find the one with the most ammo before I move on to the next section...zzzz. Unreal and Halflife came out 3 years earlier (which was a LONG time in terms of game dev in those days) and are both a lot better.
  • Final Fantasy 7. To be fair I didn't really give it a fair crack of the whip but it just seems so horrendously clunky, bad graphics etc.
  • Far Cry Blood Dragon. Did not gel with this at all, it was like some sort of dumbed down Far Cry that was trying to be funny but felt like I was playing a demo from a uni project or something like that
  • Platform games in general (too frustrating). Especially annoying is when you buy a game that isn't a platform game on the face of it, but it has copious platform sections snuck in there, and no quicksave functionality.
  • The Witcher 2. Combat mechanics changed too much compared to the Witcher, too much focus on potions for my liking. I didn't get very far into it.

Skyrim, could never get into it when it first came out even though it was a huge hit

Skyrim IMO needs a vast amount of modding to get into it - it plays much better with mods which redo the UI, map and mission system, make the controls much more streamlined and less clunky and tidy up some of the more unnecessarily protracted mechanics. I really struggled with the out the box game as so much of the bread and butter mechanics and controls, etc. are so clunky but came back to it later with a raft of mods especially SkyUI and SKSE and got some decent experiences out of it.

Undertale for me. Perhaps it's because I encountered so much hype and enthusiasm for the game before I played it, it could never live up to the lofty expectations I had for it. There were likeable elements and the music was great but I felt the gameplay and dialogue were too mediocre to create the grand journey I was expecting.

Started playing Metro Last Light redux. The first one was alright as it was good to try it out, but this seems more of the same and doesn't seem like any improvement. Environment, sound, etc all decent, but shooting is so so. Biggest issue i have is the linear design and 'go here press X', paired with the constant breaking out of player control for a jump or something. Doubt i'll bother with Exodus as i can't be bothered with this new style of so called gaming.

Battle Royale games like PUBG. Tried it, queued for a game for 5 mins then was out within 30 seconds, never again!
Any game with cartoony graphics, I like realism.

All the cods and games like it. Just full of trivial faff. Online gaming isn't what it used to be. I remember playing CS and MoH and the like back in the early to mid-2000s, and then TF2 and Left 4 Deads in the decade after. Those were pinnacle times. Online games now seem to be just awash with so much clutter and complexity and nonsense.

Halo, it was visually interesting on release but I lost interest and never completed it.

The cartoony visuals and horrible gunplay just didn't appeal to me at all, all it had going for it was the story, it was kind of interesting but not enough to keep me playing.

Otherwise it just felt like a generic rinse and repeat shooter.
