Porsche Killer

Yeah I know.

The question still stands though.

You think that the GT-R is associated with boy racers?

As far as I'm concerned it's an aggressive looking car, coupled with its insane ability to cover ground and such speed, how can one claim that it isn't a bit of a boy-racer's dream car.

Are you telling me a Porsche 911 GT2 or Turbo, with its huge rear wing, wide arches and large airtakes, is not an aggresive looking car or not able to cover ground at high speed?

I think the thing is the Porsche will always be a Porsche (i.e out of reach of a boy racer) whereas in 15 years time the GT-R will be around the same price a '96 GT-R is now and you will see them cruising council estates in horrible respray colours with silly body mods.

So your opinion on a car is based on who you think will own it in 15 years time?

What do you think of the latest BMW M3 or M5?

You can buy a very tasteful 996 with **** looking aero kit and tasteless aftermarket wheels now for 12k, throw in some nice interior mods and its a winner.

They are aggressive relative to the rest of the range but still more subtle than the GTR which is more in your face IMO.

From a certain non-enthusiast perspective, the 911 Turbo S/GT2 etc is just another Porsche, and I'm willing to bet from that same perspective the GTR would stand out boldly.

For reference my F430 cost less to run than a GTR, don't you think that's insane?

OK, let's compare. What did your annual servicing, consumables and mpg run to?

However, my point still stands, the running costs are extortionate, particularly over here. It costs almost twice what my 911 costs to run a year and doesn't offer anything more performance wise than a 911 Turbo which I can buy for the same money (albeit two years old now).

It may (debatable) cost twice the price to service, but you are comparing a C4S to a GT-R. Whilst I don't expect a huge leap in servicing costs to the Turbo, there must be something there that brings it closer to GT-R costs. Like I've said, Housey's breakdown of running a tracked GT3 would indicate we are not a million miles apart in cost. OPC prices like £450 for plugs and £150 for a brake fluid change on a Turbo are just as ridiculous as what Nissan try on for OEM discs.

There is no justification for the 6k mile/6 month service intervals, it shows NO confidence in their product and the 18k gearbox flush is a joke. Porsche PDK boxes don't need maintenance until 120k miles yet they put the same or even more power down than the GTR.

So short service intervals indicate no confidence in the product? I don't remember F430 intervals being particulary impressive. I'm willing to bet that quite a bit of exotic metal have 6k intervals. Or less. I know the Zonda does...so can we apply the same principle?

PDK boxes, wonderful things. Porsche have done it better.

This is knowledge I've gained based on wanting to buy one myself and that of my friends who own several of them, it's not hearsay and I do not just repeat the useless information that people spout on the internet.

Have a look on Nagtroc. Read the maintenance section and add up the last eight prices people (owners) were charged for the 18k service at a Nissan dealership.

You said, at best, the 18k service will be $3000.

Actual average = $1371.75

Edit:
I would have thought that most motoring enthusiasts would see past that and relate the car to

Thanks for that. Awesome.

So, whats a 1996 Nissan Skyline GT-R worth then?

£11kish?

Whereas a similar 996 911 is worth obviously a lot more, if what you say is correct?

Errr

Right. Ok then.

Not sure if this was aimed at me as the is no quote but if you follow the links you will see the riced up GT-R you linked has been modified hence why its owner may believe its work £11k, you can get a perfect condition unmolested GT-R straight off the boat for £8, a worse one for less.

Like I said before the Porsche will be less likely to be seen cruising round council estates in the future than the GT-R, although it is more of an image thing than a price thing admittedly.

Funny thing is I know someone from a lovely area of Peckham who text me the other day saying he has just bought a 911. It will certainly be on an estate when he goes around to see his parents.

Your point, disproven.

To be fair he said "Less likely"..... Not "You'll never, ever, ever, ever see a porsche cruising around a council estate"

Yeah, no offence but I believe your friend to be the exception rather than the rule.
