Any tyre recommendations please? For Boxster of course.

Car came with Bridgestone RE050s which seem pretty decent.

They have about 3-4mm remaining... so depending on how much I throw the car around, they're likely going to need replacing before the end of the year.

I'm only interested in good rubber... I know the difference and Porsche recommend some decent brands.

I've been looking at tyres and just curious what people tend to prefer.

I swear by Conti Sport Contact 5s on my BMW... they're brilliant, especially good in the wet compared to the other brands I've used.

Considerations are:

- CSC5s
- CSC3s (I have experience with the 5s but not the 3s - am I right in thinking the 3s are N-rated but the 5s are not?)
- Pirelli P Zero
- Pirelli P Zero Corsa
- Michelin Pilot Super Sport
- Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2
- Bridgestone RE050
- Bridgestone S001

There are goodyears and dunlops too...

On a quick search the Bridgestones seem to get a high rating which surprised me (although I have no problems with the ones on the car at the moment).

Just curious what you guys prefer... I'll take a look around the various Porka forums too :)

Also are you going to get a Porsche warrenty on the car? If so you're going to require "N" rated tyres to pass the 111 point check.

I just got the quote back for the warranty this morning... it's thrown a bit of a spanner in the works of my plans.

I have the bills from the UK previous owner and the extended warranties that she's purchased for the car... she was charged 1x £1200-1300 for a 1 year warranty extension (not including checks) and 1x £2200 for a two year warranty extension.

Given those prices and how tight they are on mods, while I would like to do a couple of mods... I have been seriously thinking about going with Warranty Direct who appear to be the only company that don't have a wide range of complaints for non-payment littering the web. They quoted me £867 per year and I would be able to do the little mods I'm craving.

I just got the quote back from Porsche Germany and it's MUCH less expensive that I was expecting.

I've been quoted 239E for the 111 point check (£167) when it's £200 in the UK and 816E for the 1 year warranty (£571), along with only 83.30E for Porsche Assistance (£58).

Seems like a bit of a no-brainer now... so I've asked them for a quote for PSE & LSD too.

Thanks for the tip, I'm aware of the N rating :)

A quick search and I'm struggling to find the Michelin Super Sports with N-rating.

But... the Pilot Sport 2, Pilot Sport Cup 2 & Pilot Sport Cup + all seem to be N0/N1/N2

Maybe I'm just looking in the wrong place? Although I imagine the PS Cup 2/+ are pretty good... I just remember the PS2 not being all that great (although not terrible) on BMW.

EDIT: Check on Michelin website... looks like it's just the fronts that don't have N-rating... the rears do... shame as the reviews of the Super Sports sound great.

No N rating on 235/35/19... but there is N0 on 265/35/19

You can often get the 111point check for free and if you don't need the assist that will save a bit

Really? How do you get the check for free? That would be nice :)

I have RAC cover for 2x people over europe... doesn't matter what car we're in - so I don't really need the Porsche Assist. But I hear that they're service is still pretty good (albeit backed by RAC anyway).

Reading more about tyres... the Cup 2s seem to be very well rated for grip but the supersports edge them out in wear... think I might try my luck with the Cup 2s... especially if/when I'm going for the OPC warranty.

Porsche assist is good but I always remove it as I have free RAC cover also.

The free check, just ask the dealer. Some will say yes some no. Or if you service the car at the same time you can normally get them to throw it in.

The cups tend to be more track base whereas supersport/ps2 is more for road use. Apparently the original cups were 'interesting' in the wet they also start with quite a bit less tread. I think supersports are the best but you might not be able to get them in your size (i can't for my 996) so I had to go for ps2s which are the next best thing.

PSS are a great road tyre and perform acceptably well on track, but be warned, they are pretty noisy on the road.

The PS Cup / Cup 2 is a semi-slick tyre. Flipping expensive, little tread and woeful in cold/damp/wet conditions. Pretty much you'd only want to use this on a track car that needs to drive to and from the circuit, and even then only really for dry track use.

PS2 is really the predecessor of the PSS, so is probably your best option.

Seems to be growing noise about significant on going 991 GT3 engine issues. Lots of noise on Rennlist, some people talking of multiple engine blows even after replacement at introduction and people suggesting it's just too overstressed. I know Porsche will get it right in the end and sort out owners, but I think it's interesting the new RS is running lower rev limits. It's also interesting that the current GT3, which no longer runs the Metzger engine is effectively a C2 engine with a few bits on it, lot more common parts it seems between the GT3 and C2 than previous generations. Gen II 991's in testing seem to be turbo 4 cylinders so interesting to see what the next few months brings, but I suspect the overs on 991 GT3's is about to stop.
