Porsche Owners Thread - If you own one or just like or hate them! :)

I'm quite a fan of FR layout, I'm fond of the driving characteristics... and the idea of over 700 bhp from a high revving v12 is tantalising... I think the 458 is great... but it would have to be an F12 for me

If the wife ever gets a job, then we have already been toying with the idea of running one for a year or two.

Woah, sorry to hear that, hope everything works out for you. I think a 458 will be a good bit of retail therapy.

What's the plan with your GT4, are you going to keep it for a while or try and sell it on for minimal loss or potential profit?

Yes, I am not going to let go of my 991 until I have had a few weeks with the GT4 if I am happy with it I will keep it for a year or so. I don't know if the 458 thing will really happen but its a possibility.

I think what is more realistic I will end up in a Targa or a GTS in around a year.

As lovely as the F12 is I can't justify the cost. I was thinking a bottom end 458 will hold its value quite well over 6 to 12 months

Is it normal to pay for a courtesy car when taking the car in for a service / 111-point check?

I've had them for free before (albeit not from Porsche)... although BMW wanted me to pay 12.50 for a courtesy car when I took it in for a recall

They want 120E for a Cayenne (eewwwwwww) or 102E for a Boxster.

Jokers. My dealer will give me a car for a week if I just ask. How can they ask for money when they are charging for doing work on your car.

lol... I thought as much... could it be some oddity with Germany or are they just taking the ****?

The rates are noticeably lower than Porsche UK, including the hourly rate, parts rates and warranty... just surprised me to be asked to pay for a courtesy car.

I think I'll get some quotes from Porsche Switz and Porsche France... see if they operate any differently.

Hmmm... seems to be a standard thing over here... even worse pricing in France :o

Got a quote back from local Porsche France, they charge:

- Service + Brake fluid (supplying own oil) - 711 Euro
- PDK oil change - 604 Euro
- 1 year warranty - 2000 Euro
- 2 year warranty - 3000 Euro

No charge for 111-point check

They want 35E for an Audi or 299 for a Porsche (although they don't say which model).

Reply from Porsche Germany, the cost for 2 year warranty is 1470 Euro. According to them, it's usual to charge for a "rental" car for a service, but they give FOC for warranty work.

Still waiting on the reply from the Switz side.

So far with full service + 2 year warranty with me supplying oil:
Germany - 2650 + 102 for a Boxster
France - 4315 + 299 for unknown model Porsche

I've been looking into replacement PCCB's for when mine need to be replaced or if track days become a more common occurance. As I noticed a few nutters on PH's use PCCB's.

I've come across this companny: http://www.carbonceramicbrake.com/

There is a thread over on PH's about these and seem to get a good review and the price is miles better than what the OPC's charge. It seems I can replace all 4 discs for around £4000.00 ~ plus fitting and pads which isn't too bad. So I am going to drop them a email to find out more information and the process for doing this etc....

When speaking to the OPC about the replacement cost, I have been quoted the following:

Front (Per Disc) 380mm - £ 3200.00 + VAT
Rear (Per Disc) 355mm - £ 2800.00 + VAT

I do have a few friends in the trade, who should be able to get a discount on parts but thats only 10 - 15% which helps.

Then you have fitting and pads which aren't too badly priced.

I just wanted to say that this is my ideal next car , stunning.

Having borrowed my fathers 997 911 CS last month for my yearly ring trip im badly in need of scratching the Porsche itch!

Latest gen ceramics are not as bad on track, but remember the technique with ceramics is to brake smoothly but as hard as you can to keep temperatures as low as you can.

If your gentle, braking less which results in brakes being applied longer will result in them not lasting as long, they de-laminate, so brake smooth but hard, very hard! :)

I remember you saying this awhile ago.

Ive had a reply back from SiCom, the process will take 4 weeks but the cost of the full set refurbed, including all taxes with fitting and new pads was a little over £3500.

New disc will be a lot more, but that makes owning PCCB's much more reasonable. :D

Thank you, they really are a pleasure to drive and the level of feed back to cars i've had before is unreal.:D:D

Interesting feedback from Porsche re:mods vs tyres. Been chasing a few dealers for price quotes etc... there is variety, with three close to the border.

So... I can modify the exhaust and intake system while under warranty. They won't warranty the aftermarket parts (wouldn't expect them to), but they will warranty anything connected to them.

Fabspeed are about to release a new Valvetronic system and have offered me 50% discount to be an early adopter... hmmmmmm

Put Supersports on before the 111 point check and they will not give me warranty unless I change the tyres, change them after the check and during the warranty and they won't refuse the claim. So it'll be PS2s this time, buy the 2 year warranty and try to burn through the PS2s in a year so I can have the SS for year 2 haha.

lol Porsche.

Service booked with a different Porsche center an extra 30 minutes drive into Germany for about 5% less on the parts, 111-point check for 100 euro instead of 180-240 and I can have a Cayman for 59 euro.

Haven't found one that'll give me a 911 for the day... tried though... choices are boxster/cayman/cayenne/panamera diesel depending on garage.

I'm oddly curious about the panamera... if it wasn't diesel I might have given it a go.

Been taking a closer look at exhaust systems, trying to make my mind up. A bit more money than I had planned to put into the car... but I think it will be worth it.

I reckon I can see 330-350bhp with the mods I'm keen on.

Looking at:
- Fabspeed system - they're about to offer a new active valve system and have offered be 50% off to be one of the first adopters... given their history and reviews, I'm quite tempted by this... waiting on confirmation & hoping I can get a similar discount on their modified headers. This new system is supposed to be able to switch between their standard system and race system at the push of a button & I like the sound of that. Videos of the standard system haven't wowed me as much as others - but their race system sounds sublime in videos. Videos aren't the easiest way to judge and I'm not sure where to hear one in-action but I have read about them refunding people who installed and then didn't like the noise. This system should get a bit more BHP than others due to the improved construction of the headers, at least... although I'm not sure if I would notice the difference in power.

- Carnewal modified cayman R exhaust (larger bore) and modified OEM cats with HJS racing replacement (same HJS that's used in Fabspeed) - these were my favourite until Fabspeed interested me. The sound seems to well emulate the PSE option while offering a touch more power. I like this because it's quite so close to OEM and of the videos I've found, it's one of my favourite sounds.

- Arymtrix. I hadn't heard of this brand until the last couple of days - they seem to do some interesting work on high-end autos. Relatively new to Europe, it seems... but the noise is rather impressive, the auto-system seems reasonably well done and it seems well made... the most expensive option, however.

- Remus... seemingly well respected but reviews of the build quality compared to others doesn't seem as favourable. Great noise.

I've looked at a few others and these seem to be my favourite from what I've found... although I can't be sure... it would be great to find somewhere I could sample them all but that might be difficult.

My desired mods:
- Replacement cat-back system (as above)
- Replacement headers/cat (either modified stock header with HJS cats or aftermarket header with the same HJS cats)
- GT3 throttle body / intake plenum
- Free-flowing intake (Fabspeed want £700 for a shaped silicon hose and filter... K&N want £200 for a filter that goes straight on the intake... the latter will probably have a barely measurable increase in temp, so I can't quite imagine paying over £500 for a silicon hose)
- ECU flash to aid in differing O2 measurement readings and mapping fuel mixture to the mods (I prefer the idea of getting it mapped by a proper tuner though... the idea of a downloadable flash for silly money seems like both a ripoff and less refined than a proper tune, despite the similarity in engines and mods)

Finally, I'll be sure to get myself a LSD... it is a very well balanced car that your average driver would not notice the lack of LSD on... however, I do and I know how the car would feel different with one on & it's something I want because I can feel the difference... and no, I don't plan on drifting it everywhere... I can feel the car and want that improvement.

I'd personally keep the money and put it towards another car, god I sound old saying that.... :o:D:D:D:p

However, if its just a bit more noise id add a exhaust system on the car. Do Sharkwerks make parts for the car, if so that would be my choice or is the PSE available for your model?

PSE is available... it's just that I object to paying £2k *just* for noise. It's a great sound, sure... but it makes no difference to throttle response or airflow... when, for the same money I can get the higher-bore Cayman R cat-back exhaust modified to sound like the PSE and retrofit by Carnewal, plus the headers modified with racing cats.

If I wanted only the noise mod for the stock cat-back, then it would be only £350 from Carnewal.

I keep swinging between putting the money towards a toy (charged mx5 / E46 M3 / seven style thing / motorbike) and doing this... it would be nice to make this my perfect boxster though. Even if I do this, I'll likely still have one of those toys by next summer.

I'm still waiting on price from Frabspeed, I'll see what they offer and make my decision.

I definitely want an LSD on the car though.

I think at the end of all this you will be left with a b'stard car that a lot less people will be interested in. Frankly most Porsche owners don't want a modded car unless it is a GT version with the mods that people have tried and tested over many years and track days. Save your money and put it towards your next Porsche, don't try and make a Boxster a half way GT car because you will fail and it is already a superb car, though like you I'd want an LSD.
