Porsche Owners Thread - If you own one or just like or hate them! :)

Question about load ratings on tyres, as I am struggling to get the MPSS in the OE values. How much of a difference would it make going to the XL rated MPSS tyres?

OE Values:

235 / 35 R20 88 ZR(Y)
265 / 35 R20 95 ZR(Y)

Michelin XL Values.

235 / 35 R20 92 ZR(Y)
265 / 35 R20 99 ZR(Y)

Let's not kid ourselves here, tiptronic is a standard slushbox automatic nothing fancy at all.

The box in the 996 is a torque converter box out of a merc but in a different case, I know the user 996TTAlot over on 911uk had a thread about replacing his gear clutches in his tip turbo with kevlar jobbies as the gearbox couldn't take the power and was slipping. I wasn't aware that the 996t box was different from that in the 996... could be wrong though. Either way Helpimcrap... that workshop manual has all the info in it you might need about the gearbox.

Thanks all. I had an educated guess before worrying and was curious. How long do the clutches last on an auto?

Beats me... I literally have no idea. The general consensus if you have a google is that the box is over engineered and should easily last the lifetime of the car unless you go chasing power. I wish the same could be said for the engine :D

Lol cheers. I like over engineering!

Hopefully I've only got a few bits to do then it's sorted...

Got to respray passenger side sill due to cat C, fit another stereo as current one is crap and old and unoriginal, and replace rear shocks after Porsche said they were 'misting'. I'll get the shocks replaced at an Indy.... £800 gone...

Need a job first... Lol

Met with a couple of friends today, GT3 RS, Strad Challenge, jenson buttons NSX and my boring old 911.

The NSX owner has a NSX R on the way.

Why is the new race car mid engined? Also is it gt3 spec?

Mid engine cars have performance benefits over rear engine cars, so they are just swapping the engine and gear box around like the Cayman for example. Its the 2017 911 RSR which has been modified rather than the GT3 R. It's going to be interesting to see how it goes, only problem we need to wait till next year I believe. I still think it runs in the GT3 class as the FIA have allowed it.

However, the next question is are they running a NA or Turbo engine with it. :(:D

It's competing in GTE which is the old GT2. It will be interesting to see how the waivers start getting handed around next year for the 'proper' GTE cars like the Aston in the face of these new specifically built racing cars.

GT3 cars are basically modified road cars so should remain rear engined.

New to this thread.

Thinking of replacing my Evo 8 with a Boxster S (987). I'm looking at them with less than 50k miles and they're all selling for between 12-14k. Does that sound about right?

I understand servicing and parts from Porsche will be expensive but do things go wrong a lot? My Evo isn't cheap to run so I'm thinking it'd cost about the same as a S to run?

Anything else to look out for? I like the look of the 987 and I'd be looking at a manual also.

Cheers

Edit: How is insurance on these?

Id recommend reading the following PH Link for a buying guide: PH Buying Guide

If you look to buget around £300 ~ for a oil change from a OPC. Porsche also have a fix price service guide which can be found here for the 987 platform.

Insurance is a funny thing and depends a lot on location but for reference I pay £810.00 on a CGTS (33 5NCB) :(

Good info, I'll check it out!

So I dropped off the turbo for a major service this morning. I've got a new booster with 750 miles on the clock to play with till Tuesday. It's got pdk and after realising how manual mode works I'm quite liking it. Also it's got pse so it sound not bad. Especially thru the archway in Beverley, I'm tempted to take it thru a multistory with the roof down and see how many alarms go off:D.

What's everyones thought on the McLaren 570S?

As I have been watching a number of reviews and it seems quiet favourable.

Edit: Too late sent a email for more information.

I see.

I'm keen to see whether they'll be more popular on the GT3 CLASS. As you don't see many 911s these days.
