Porsche Owners Thread - If you own one or just like or hate them! :)

Anyone see this posted by PH yesterday?

300,000k on a 996 used for 110mph + average speed sprints across Europe and North Africa with a few choice modifications for endurance and survival.

What a hero, how cars should be used.

That is so cool! Proper servicing too - life not fail. Impressive!

Every time I start mine up it costs me £50! Nowhere near those speeds or miles!

Got a nice surprise from my father the other day. I had been looking for an original, working Porsche radio for my 944 and finding one was proving quite hard for a decent price. Needless to say when he turned up with this I was over the moon :D

Can't wait to get it fitted.

So went had a test drive of a Boxster 3.4S today loved it and think I might get one. Anything particular bad to look out for its an 07 plate with 65k on it.

Have a look a few pages back, I did post a check list. I'd say all the normal things with the items on the check list.

They are a very good little car and the values are on the rise at the moment.

As a current Panamera GTS owner I am more than a little bit interested in the launch tomorrow...if it looks good I will be paying the local dealer a visit...

The 3.4s 987 is a cracking car as is the 3.2s 986. I bought my first porsche after driving one on a track day and am now totally smitten, even though I have had more than my fair share of engine problems with them there isn't many other cars that feel quite as good to drive. The 3.4 engine in that 987 is the same if not slightly modified m96 engine that is in my 911. I think the basics of it, at least to me, comes down to costs. They are not crazy cars to run but they have the ability to throw huge bills and if the possibility of a 7k+ engine rebuild scares the **** out of you then you either need to own one with a warranty or buy one and keep a decent slush fund for it. Porsche warranty is now 15 years so an 07 car can have a porsche warranty put on it.

I also keep finding myself on autotrader looking at new toys and think I might buy another myself after I get married later this year. I can't decide on what yet but it will either be some sort of boxster that both me and the mrs can drive or something just for me like another 911.

I have also been throwing the idea around of perhaps getting her an early 987 boxster with a smaller engine and me a v8 vantage and keeping the 996 which has basically been my project for the last 5 years.

Thank's for your input I would be looking at Porsche warranty and had a chat with the local dealer they said once it passes the inspection at £200 its good to get the official warranty for up to 2 years. I also did find a Gen2 2.9 that looks very nice for just a touch over 15.5 so worth looking in to.

I'm no stranger to huge bills having ran an m3 smg for 2 years :D

I went from an E46 M3 to a 2.9 Boxster so let me know if you have any specific queries. Reliability of the Gen 1 3.4 engine scared me off and my budget didn't stretch to a Gen 2 3.4 but I haven't been left wanting with the 2.9, it's a sweet engine.

The 3.4 is certainly the risky engine in the lineup. If the experts are to believed its less about if and more about when. Probably because they just bored out the same lump and as you increase the displacement the liners just keep getting thinner. If I remember rightly for the 3.6 they didn't bore it out any more but instead changed the stroke.
