Porsche Owners Thread - If you own one or just like or hate them! :)

Hehe, 8800 RPM is still a pretty mental rev limit for a 4L engine though! :)

I love the howl these Porsche flat 6s make. They all do it, to a greater or lesser degree. Sublime noise.

Yeah my old one did it but only beyond 7000rpm and the limiter was 7400rpm so it was limited and it did not sound as good as the GT3 did at 7500rpm let alone 8000+ :)

I reckon the flat 6 is the best sounding inside the cabin engine noise you can get, yeah from the outside a V8 sounds better but its more about what you the driver hears anyway. :)

He seemed like he was keeping people well within their limits which is frustrating if you want to push on.

When the cars are 200-400k USD each and they have no idea of your ability they have to keep it within reason.

I was quite happy, the guy let me push a little and I got to experience my dream car and it really delivered, no let downs at all.

Not like when a Gallardo was my dream car and then when I drove it I found it to be a total let down in every way.

So i have organised a test drive in a Porsche 718 Cayman S for the week after next with a view to potentially replacing my RS3 with one. Never drove a Porsche apart from a Cayanne i got as a hire car recently..

They are saying there is roughly a year waiting time so it would likely be a Jan 2018 car and i can secure the build slot with a 3k deposit which is refundable right up too confirming the spec around a month before?

Is there any scope for discounts with Porsche dealers or is it a case of due to the lead times you generally pay list?

I havent discounted used cars yet but my only stipulation is its within budget and i can put my number plate on it (so September 2015 onward)

It's a £3000 deposit which is refundable up the point which the car goes into build, at this point you will be asked to bring the deposit up to 10% of the cars value. The remainder of the deposit will be due a week before collection.

4 weeks after ordering the car, you should get an email from Porsche GB which will be a invite to the PEC for half a day.

What I've been hearing are discounts on the new cars are very slim as there aren't many build slots for them. The best thing I would do in order to achieve a discount is go in ready with the spec of the car you want ready. I know when I ordered mine, I had zero discount on the car.

Ah ok. I wondered if that was the case. I managed to get a decent bit of discount on the RS3 but given the limited build slots its understandable i guess.

I have no idea what to expect. Its down on power compared to the RS3 (367bhp v 350bhp) but he says the power delivery is totally different given its mid engined.

This might help with what to expect in the process.

So fast in a straight line and a fantastic engine note, but I found the pedals were far too close together! Very hard to see out of also.

Yes that, sound was good, did not even feel particular that quick, but the biggest let down was how dull it felt.

It was just a total disappointment, they really are in my view just for posers because there is no other reason to buy it other than looks, noise and status. It drives well so many cars drive better which cost far less, I'd rather drive an MX5, way more fun!

Turbos and Syvecs ECU will sort that out :D

No nothing can sort out the basic handling and dullness of the Gallardo. You cannot change the basics of it, better to just buy a better feeling car in the first place.

If power was always the answer then Toyota Supra would be the best car on the planet, the reality is another crap car to drive.

Very few cars get the balance of race car and road car right. But it something Porsche really excel at, even the slow Boxsters (though not slow any more) still are great fun to drive and very involving but also totally relaxing when you need them to be. :)

I think you're right. You need to go drive the 570S mate, level on again.

I can imagine, just not so much for the styling mate and though I should not judge without seeing but I can't see it all being as well stuck together as a Porsche is. I love the 911 shape, I know a lot find it boring but to me the 911 is a great looking car (except 996) and the latest ones really are nice.

Am sure I will get a go in a 570S when you get one. :D

Just knocked up a quick idea of what the GTS would look like in Mexico Blue.

I love the 911, fantastic car every one one of them. However I think they have become too expensive for what they are. No question the GTS is going to be superb but I think Macca have moved the game on

This is a 570S so much more than a GTS, but the 540C looks identical and they start around 10K more than a GTS and I think that's competition.
