Porsche Owners Thread - If you own one or just like or hate them! :)

Ah, no paddle shifting?

Ah yes check it has the proper sports wheel with paddle shifters and not buttons, is a must and it can be retro-fitted, wheel is around £500 from an OPC. ;)

From what I remember:

PDK Sport: You change gear on paddles, but it will still change up if you hit limiter or change down if you hit kick down under accelerator pedal.
PDK Sports Plus: It locks the gear, so it will bounce of limiter and kick down switch is disabled in this mode.

Easily identifiable on centre trim, there will be sport and sports plus button.

So I've just read the next GT3 (not RS) will come with the four litre flat six and optional transmission!!

Porsche also plan to release a GT4RS

Ah, no paddle shifting?

It has the button shifters which I have in my Boxster. They are useful in that you can change up and down on both sides but they are much less tactile than proper paddles.

The paddle wheel only became an option later on so it couldn't have been spec'd from new on a 2009 car but it's easy to retrofit but more like £800-900 from a dealer plus fitting. They are about £700 on ebay but it'll be tough to find one in that colour, they are pretty much all black. And you'd lose all the multifunction controls on the wheel.

Any PDK with Sports Chrono will have the Sports Plus mode

Both are the same, in terms of shifting. As they will both hit the limiter if the kick down function isn't used.

What Sports Plus does is enable the dynamic engine mounts, change the gear box mapping to the most aggressive settings and sharpens up throttle response.

I have a feeling that a PTS order, will take a while. As I have been offered build slots for a April delivery car in normal spec. :(

500BHP
Reworked engine
More reliable
etc

That's the most worrying thing about buying a 991.1 as I believe they are up revision G of the engine in the current GT3 (9A1). However, there are still reports of them going pop. Also from revision E or F Porsche have changed the warrenty wording to exempt any track use from a warranty claim around these engines.

There are some rather eye opening reads about this on Rennlist, one poor chap was lumbered with a 40K repair bill on one of these engines.

It's mostly down to a lubrication issue or lack off which seems to be cause a these issues and it's also believed that that's one of the reasons for the drop from 9000 to 8800 on the engine RPM. However, that's one of the most magical sounds which is the last 500 rpm from 8500 rpm.

It's going to be very interesting to see what happens to the 991 models in March after they announce the 991.2 GT3. However, it seems like it's going to be a even harder job to be allowed to buy the new car.

Was discussing these issues at AutoSport last week :(

I think Porsche are sort of admitting, without admitting it, that the 991.1 GT3 engine was pushed a little too far and has a weakness. Now Porsche would never admit this but the emphasis they are putting on how many miles they have put on this one, the things they have done to strengthen it in a roundabout way sort of confirms that current one is quite highly stressed.

What might the release of the 991.2 do to the price Of The current GT3s?

I mean this will come with a manual option too.

I've read so much on these of late but I was under the impression that's it's still only going to be a PDK car. However, we will find out in due course as Geneva Motor isn't too far away now.

It will push prices down on the GT3 model but the question is how much if any. I'd also be put off a little with the current gen cars due to the engine problem. As the last thing you want is for it to go pop and Porsche saying it's not covered as you was on a track. However, if the car is a garage queen it won't too much of a difference.

On Porsche Boxster 981's, the PDK models, why do most not have the paddles? What option needs to be ticked? I thought they were standard on 981 generation cars but it turns out to be fairly rare on earlier 2009 models.

I believe it's the Sports Steering wheel option, which I don't think is standard on the early 981 cars.
