Porsche Owners Thread - If you own one or just like or hate them! :)

I've read so much on these of late but I was under the impression that's it's still only going to be a PDK car. However, we will find out in due course as Geneva Motor isn't too far away now.

It will push prices down on the GT3 model but the question is how much if any. I'd also be put off a little with the current gen cars due to the engine problem. As the last thing you want is for it to go pop and Porsche saying it's not covered as you was on a track. However, if the car is a garage queen it won't too much of a difference.

And what Of The 911R?

Lets face it. That cars selling point Was The engine + manual transmission.

And what Of The 911R?

I was under the impression the GT3 cars philosophy was to make the car as quick as possible around the track and that was driver to move to a PDK gearbox and the 911R as I understand it from Andreas Preuninger was more of a fun car rather than car to chase lap times.

However, if you mean the engine it’s an evolution of the current 3.8 was its been redesigned in some aspects to allow for better oil flow which where the main causes of the problems in the 3.8 engines. Also, the rev limit as I have said above has been reduced and though Porsche won’t publicly say it we can safely assume that its measures been taken to safe guard the engine (9A1).

I’ve read the current rumours from AutoCar this week and if they turn out to be correct, the car will be an instant sell out not that there are not queues of people with their names down ready to buy the car. However, I do wonder if Porsche will safe guard the 911R and its owners by keeping the GT3 a PDK only car.

I believe it's the Sports Steering wheel option, which I don't think is standard on the early 981 cars.

Dammit, I was looking at the newer models and the paddles seem standard now, why did Porsche take so long to get with the program, buttons are so lame. If I want to be cruising casually ill put it in auto, if I want to be sporty I want paddles so I can pretend im fast.

Correct, but if the rumours are true. Porsche could be releasing a new GT3 with a stick shift and 4.0 litre engine.

A choice would be epic!

I'd think i'd pick a PDK over a manual now, maybe its more a physiologically thing which makes it feel like a race car. However, I know the purist would pick a NA motor with a stick all day long.

The PDK-S is such a brilliant bit of kit though and takes the normal PDK to a whole new level, as I don't know many dual clutch gearboxes which have a full manual clutch control by pulling both levers. I know I tried this on my car and it just puts it into a neutral mode.

What you seeing GT4's move at buddy?

I think they are coming close to list mate if you're buying

They do seem to be getting a tad lower. If I was offered one for list price then I think I'd definitely swap from the 911, just couldn't bring myself to pay more than list for one in case the market crashes horribly.

I spotted a post on Instagram stating 911 R are now going for £600k +. Considering it was about £140k new. What's special about that model which has given it that value increase in such a short space of time especially with the abdundance of other Porsche variants? Apologies if I've missed something obvious but I know very little about Porsches :p

A gear stick, 4.0 NA Engine, lighter car than standard and a very limited run of them (991 to be precise).

It started when they dropped the manual gearbox option from the 991 GT3 making them pdk only and ****ing off those with beards and pencils in their shirt pockets. Then relatively mundane cars became investments and every normal pre '98 911 went up in value by 100-500% overnight.

Then the RS came and despite having no manual option came in such limited numbers that they sold for double list from day zero. Then the GT4 finally brought a manual gearbox back but again, in such limited numbers now everyone was drooling down to their pencils to get one so immediately they sold for £50k over for a Cayman with a carrera engine in it.

Then they made the regular 991.2 models turbo charged killing off the normally aspirated engines which ****ed the beards off even further AND THEN to really kick them when they were down the Boxster and Cayman went four cyclinder and turbo charged.

To make everyone super happy again they then made a GT3 with no wing, the normally aspirated 4.0 from the RS, houndstooth fabric and a manual gearbox, called it the 911R, limited it to 991 cars total and everyone went mental.

Thanks for the detailed reply! Interesting. A very tidy profit for those who were lucky enough to get one; but doubt most of those 991 people are short of a few quid anyway.

Don't forget the chattery single mass flywheel!

Had my check done at Centre Gravity -
Very informative - everything within tolerance and very tidy for a 98 with 130k miles. Given it's a Cat C and it turns out it's already had the Gundo hack done on the aftermarket stainless exhausts. It has had new Porsche parts used on rear left axle so assuming that was the main source of the Cat C although a new Boxster bonnet implies something happened there. It has original front suspension, wing and rear arch although there is a slight bit of filler used but looks like a very light Cat C so I'm thinking it was a rear wheel sideways to the kerb damaging the suspension and sill or similar.

Needs very little doing as it's been well done aside from 1 iffy rear arm (Coffin arm? TCA? Wishbone? It's the bigger one that was single sleeved originally but is now double braced to strengthen it) that apparently Porsche replaced because it was weak.
Oh and they said a couple of problems such as ride height would be just down to having the roof on because of the weight as an extra 100kg or something. The rear shock that is leaking is within tolerance however it is 5mm lower than the left. After 8 months of leaking I am surprised it was that good!
Was really interesting to look around the car as I like to work on my cars and an ex-racer so nosy. He said someone had spent a lot of money maintaining the car.
Slight bit of toeing so just needs a geometry setup once new rear shocks are fitted and a new arm for the right rear.

At least the wheel bearings are ok after I got a little sideways on the power out of a junction when it was starting to ice up and the left rear has a scuff on it now where I think I may have kissed the kerb before fishtailing up the road. :o

They are good guys at CC, had my Ohlins fitted and setup like a GT2 :D

When purchased my car was on stock suspensions and lowering springs which typically mashed the bump stops and wasnt a nice drive.

There is no way the roof is 100kg, I can lift mine onto the car on my own and maneuver it into place. I will weigh it but my guess is something around half that weight. In fact i was really surprised by how light it was.

I just checked and it weighs, 33kg or 73lb.

The roof is 33kg, is that on the 911? Jesus what is it made out of. :D

M3 roof is 12kg, CSL roof is like 3.5-4kg (carbon fibre).
