Porsche Owners Thread - If you own one or just like or hate them! :)

Originally I was going to get a Gen 1 until I read about the potential issues they can suffer from so have considerably stretched my budget to be able to get into a Gen 2, so i'll just have to keep looking, my budget is around 35k mark

£35k is right at the bottom of the Gen 2 market. I'm not sure I've ever seen one for that little. £35k would either get you a lovely Gen 1 or you could spend less and bank the cash in case of a rainy day. I'd almost be tempted to get a Gen 1 for £30k or less which has a full OPC history and get it warrantied by Porsche. Get a pre purchase inspection and enjoy it. I'd be concerned that a bottom end Gen 2 car could end up more expensive than a well sorted Gen 1. Bore scoring is the main worry on a post 2006 car - IMS failure is vanishingly rare following this date. There is also some chatter about Gen 2 cars bore scoring, it can still happen.

991 GT3 is a lovely car but i'd be very careful with them, depending on which engine revision as it could be ticking time bomb.

I'd expect the 991 GT3 prices to drop now, but the question will be by how much and also assume that RS and R values will now soften with this new car.

Yes, the earlier versions of the engine where replaced under warranty. However, it appears that subsequent revisions also seem to have a problem with the engine not supplying enough oil pressure in some conditions and there has been revisions to the camshaft lobes. There is a lot more information all the changes on RennList but I believe they are up to revision G and there are still a number of reports of misfires with that engine.

The other important change as discussed very heavily on PH, the warranty is no longer valid if the car is driven on a track and its goes wrong. A new engine for one of these cars is in the region of 40-60K.

I'll mention it to him, he's an engine builder by trade so he probably already knows or doesn't care. And no I don't mean Bob at the local tuning shop, this guy is world class... hence he can afford a GT3 I guess. :)

Deposit already down, I can not wait!!!

Going to go crazy with the spec this time!

Damm you!

My OPC won't accept deposits till there allocations have been allotted, I still stand no chance of getting one hence ill probably order the GTS will ironically cost more. :(

Is this a potential keeper? The potential to sell your spot on the list or flip it is pretty tempting surely? I guess even with a year's use you could still sell it for more than the retail price.

Out of curiosity, what sort of deposit to Porsche ask for when putting one down on a car like this?

It's £10,000 for the Turbo, GT3 and GT3 RS models, which is refundable up to point of build. Also for reference a the normal 911/Cayenne is £5000 and a 718/Macan is £3000.00

That's not too bad given the retail price! I was expecting a lot more!

That's just to get the order placed, once the car enters the build process you'll be asked to bring the deposit up to 10% of the cars total value and the deposit is non refundable at that point. The remainder of the payment or deposit is normally due a week before collection.

It's not too bad to be honest, as some cars have long build times.

McLaren as a example ask for £15,000 on a 570S, so its pretty good in the grand scheme of things.

Well it's probably going to come mid Q3. So that about fits when I would want to change the i8. I will probably run it as my DD for around 8 to 12 months and move it on like it do most of my cars.

By that time I will be living in zone 1 again so most the miles will be put on doing fun this on the weekend.

I assume this 4.0 will make its way into a Cayman soon, I would be quite keen on trying that out.

I am hearing 350 LOI's at my local OPC, of which 10 are promised. It's not a car you can buy, it is simply flipper bait and the emperors new clothes. I see them at 175K and then some a few weeks after they arrive, sooner on PH adverts. Shame.

It's pretty ridiculous, but pretty much every manufacturer seems to be doing this with its halo cars currently.

What happens to those that put a deposit down then sell their slot to someone else?

Do Porsche accept it? Or do you have to basically go in and order it to the spec of the person who's bought it off you and pretend as if you're still buying it? And then hand the keys over when you get the car?
