Porsche Owners Thread - If you own one or just like or hate them! :)

I was at OultonPark last weekend taking pictures. The GT3 RS on track sounded awesome.

So much awesome, I've just booked the day off work so I can be at the Oulton Park RS Day on the 8th March taking pictures. :D

Come over and say hello, yellow C2S, easy to spot. :D

Hi

I need some advice.

So my new car went in for a 111 point check to renew the warranty. My car has new N1 tyres on the back but the fronts are N0 so they say I need new tyres. Is there any way to get around this? They are also telling me I need to fit bridgestone are they any good?

Second problem is they tell me the front discs are low, they want 1k for a new set of discs and pads. Any idea if I can find a way or doing this cheaper?

I believe for tyres you have to have Nspec of same version all round. Bridgestones are ok but in nspec the Michelin PS2's are the most sportiest tyres.

Brakes and pads have to be Porsche so you could buy the parts and fit yourself, same with tyres. Porsche can give upto 20% discount if you ask them nicely. ;)

Welcome to Porsche ownership, I've probably spent 10-15k on mine in warranties, parts, brakes, tyres etc. Etc.

Yah, I am going to get a £5k bill at the end of this and I have only had the car a few weeks.

If I get a Indi to fit Textar/Pagid discs and pads will porsche ever know?

If it was already under warranty, they'd not care what brakes were fitted as the warranty does not cover them, they are consumables.

However to get a warranty they are ultra strict and as such make you fit all o.e. parts, why do you think Porsche is so profitable. ;)

Porsche use pagid pads, so get those, they might go un-noticed or should do, make sure the disc are Porsche o.e. though and then just fit yourself or get an indy to do so.

Then go back for a re-check and should be OK. :)

I am very tempted not to bother getting a warranty now. I found a place that will do it with original pads and OE discs for 680 + VAT.

My discs have 39.9mm on them porsche tell it needs to have 40mm to pass!!

In context of a £30k plus Porsche, I really wouldn't squabble over a few hundred quid...

Fixing mismatched tyres is something I'd do anyway, and the discs / pads will need doing at some point during your ownership anyway, it's just bringing the cost forward a bit.

~£5k might sound like a lot in one hit, but once that's done, that's almost running costs baselined for 2 years...

Hang on, how are you getting to a £5k bill? What's the breakdown?

2500 for the warranty
550 for 2 tyres. They are not really mismatched it's just that the back are n1 front are n0
200 for the 111 point check
950 for discs and pads
300 for new spark plugs
65 for airbag check
250 for a new battery.

I will just have to lump it and pay up.

When is the next service due? I thought the spark plugs were done at the same time as a major service?

Are they changing the break fluid at the same time as doing discs and pads? Is that all round?

Other than an MOT & Air Con service, I can't think of much else left to do?

thats the price just for the front discs and pads rears are fine.

I should think that the car will be quite cheap run for the next 2 years after this.

Just insurance, petrol and tax, warranty will cover the rest. Problem was for me I started modding mine and doing track days so spent thousands on mods along with tyres and brakes.

All I'd recommend is you change the oil/filter every 6000 miles. :)

I just noticed that my rears are 305/30/19 and front 235/35/19

I thought that the rears are supposed to be 295 on C2S?

Stock is 295 and option is 305.
305's mean more understeer and look better.
If you have the wider Carrera Sport wheels then 305 is default.
