Porsche Owners Thread - If you own one or just like or hate them! :)

Hot damn that looks like a good package! The R I'm sure will still retain its value. I'm still not 100% sure of the looks of the 991 GT3 front bumper, but if I suddenly had enough cash to splurge on a new 911 this would definitely be the one.

There are reports of some people paying £500k for a 911R, why when the new GT3 is better in some ways? I think 911R prices will plummet hard unless I'm mistaken about something.

911R pricing has been ludicrous and they are going to be back close to list I suspect soon. Got loads of details on Touring but sleepy so that'll have to wait.

And they would still not sell you one. :(

It is really annoying, because I see brand new GT3 at £111,000 and a 2-3yr old one is like £118,000-£140,000 so the only options seems to be buy second hand and pay over the odds for an older model which I think some here said Porsche have had some issues with and won't warrant the engine if used on track, not 100% sure if true, seems crazy if the case.

Could sell the Mustang, M3 and with savings that is 70-80k to put down against it, would happily finance 30k to get into a GT3, though I would want the one with the big silly wing, not this touring one. :D

Shame :( You'll have another one one day I'm sure!
Have you got rid of the car cover?

Still got it but loads of enquiries.

It a classic additions car cover with wing pockets in black. Mint condition and can't see any rips or tears. Fits a 996 superbly. No logo - plain black. Porsche GB do one for nearly £200 but doesn't have wing pockets.

Mail me on cbr6dc at hotxxxx.cox (work it out sorry).
Sold some brand new HEL brake lines.

Bloody hell, I hadn't realised they were quite that ridiculous. I guess a lot of the hype was generated by the fact that the GT3 was PDK only when this was released. For some reason everyone has a mega hard on about modern limited edition 911's right now. Why wouldn't Porsche take a winning formula and sell more cars?

Half a million pounds is a totally insane amount of cash to spend on any 911 even with an unlimited budget!

I wish they made more of them... I can't stand paying more for a second hand car than it was worth brand new... just seems absurd to me.

I get it with the likes of older Ferrari F40s and things like the McLaren P1... but a 911? even a GT3? that's just silly... a manufacturer that is clearly capable of producing more cars keeping production numbers low on purpose to keep demand high and supply low is just angry-fying.

Made so much worse with the list process you have to go through and how many "normal" cars you have to buy first to even get on the list... I don't want 17 911 C2S, 9 Panameras and 5 Macans... I want a GT3.

Same thing (to a certain extent) with the BMW M2 and Ford Mustang. But at least your average buyer can get a new one of those, even if they have to wait 1.5-2 years for it to arrive.

Didn't someone on here sell their 911R pre-order, went out and bought a GT3 and had over $100k in change?

I remember reading something like that

"We are not a hedge fund", declared Andreas Preuninger - love this quote.

The issue Porsche had was that it was being done privately, not thorough dealers, and it was just ******* off their main customer base. I am sort of glad the speculators are going to get a massive kicking from this if it does happen.

In a way it's good that this is a bit of a FU to the speculators, however they still don't exactly make it easy for someone even with the right amount of money to get hold of a GT or RS car.

And nor should they imo, otherwise speculators get the cars. From the last driving holiday meet up I went to where people were discussing cars, one chap got a GT3 allocation despite being a nobody and non Porsche owner, just because of his presence on Piston Heads forum and a reputation for actually driving the cars he purchases. Same thing with my friend who got the first 991 GT3 in Bristol Porsche, hes allowed another because hes kept it, serviced it, and is trading it back in. OK he is taking a small bath when it comes to how much he loses swapping to the new one, but in his words, he is being offered something money can't buy, a place on a very exclusive list. Porsche seem to know what they are doing when it comes to selling these cars, its the second hand market that then makes things go crazy.

I agree that they shouldn't be making millions of them, but with massive demand for the cars surely they could increase their output and make more cash? The dealers are still offering new GT cars for sale well over list price, but I suppose Porsche argue that the dealers are independent businesses and can do what they want.

Honestly though, I'm not sure why I'm all that bothered, either I win the lottery and can afford to pay stupid amounts of cash for one, or frankly it's a moot point as I'll not be able to afford one otherwise!

speculators already get the cars(potentially anyone on the list can be/become a 'speculator' if enough of an incentive appears), the whole reason that speculators exist is because there are these lists and the cars are not easier to buy, the easier they are to buy the less of a market there is for the speculators in the first place

Hating moment, boy do they sound like junk.
Now having driven Boxster, Cayman, Boxster S and Cayman S on track in Germany of this latest generation, their ability is uncanny. The none S models avoid though they had pretty bad lag which annoyed me vastly, even on track and you could very much tell they were turbocharged. The S models though were vastly superior, near instant throttle response and plenty of power but the engine has lost its charm, there was no fun factor in wringing out the engine to 7000rpm, infact I found myself changing up earlier.

Handling wise, simply fantastic, as always with a Cayman/Boxster in the right hands will simply embarrass most cars on road and track, they are very playful too, though you do need the S model I found to play to get it sliding around on power, the none S simply lacked power to do so on a dry track.

Great cars, but just look at that GT4 and listen to it, worth the extra money every time in my view.

Also the test is unfair on performance stats, notice how they keep it pretty hush that its a PDK car against a manual, very unfair especially when you can get a 718 Cayman S in manual, I feel they'd be more equal then 0-60 and quarter mile.

Let's also not forget that the 718 will lose a lot of its value off the bat. GT4's are still fetching sticker price or more, including options, and that's something which is unlikely to change much.

I drove the new 718S and it's one hell of a quick car, feels almost as quick as a GT-R. Sound would definitely take some getting used to, though it wasn't bad inside the car, just not "Porsche".

I know this has been done to death but...

I am about to spend £35kish on a Boxster S within the next year. How essential is PASM for mainly DD, some fast road driving on UK roads and 1 or 2 track days a year?

Having had one without... every future Porsche purchase will have PASM... it makes a world of difference, especially for daily-ing because the standard mode has a much more compliant ride.

It's OK without, but much nicer with... also better for future resale.

Honestly, test-drive examples with and without PASM to make your own mind up - it's primarily a feel thing which is quite subjective. That said, your intended driving profile is pretty similar to mine and it's definitely nice to have - more comfortable in normal mode but firm, responsive and confidence-inspiring in Sport mode compared to standard suspension. There's a good visualisation of how flexible it is in a graph at https://caymanregister.org/faq.php?faq=options#faq_pasm - that's for the 987 but will be similar for the 981 which your budget should just about get you into. It may be more of a must-have on a 981 with 20" wheel options as well.

Yeah... try to find smaller wheels... larger ones seem to be popular for image over function... but as with any car... bigger sidewalls is better for both grip and ride quality. The only reason to increase the size of the alloys is to increase the size of the brakes & Porsche have relatively small sized brakes, so it's completely unnecessary.
