Porsche Owners Thread - If you own one or just like or hate them! :)

Do the smaller displacement engines have such issues? Scoring is almost exclusively the later 3.8 variants. Do they go oval like the early 3.4’s? I thought that by the 54 plates (i.e. facelift) that this wasn’t such a problem. IMS bearings are something that can fail on any variant.

Great handling sports car with plenty of poke in the S variety. Buy with your eyes open as these are getting on a bit, wont be eligible for a Porsche warranty and will likely need a lot of components refreshing to keep it at its best. This could be reflected in a cheap asking price. Have you got a good independent garage or are you handy with spanners? If nothing goes wrong and you don’t need to do any major work on the car it shouldn’t be too expensive to run.

I always understood it to be prevalent on the 2.9s.

The 2.9 is one of the least prone to bore scoring or any major issue really. They were introduced in the 987.2 from 2009 along with the new 3.4, both pretty solid.

54 plate would be one of the last 986, so 2.7 or 3.2. Some minor IMS possibility on the 3.2 but the 2.7 is pretty robust I'm sure. If the engine was going to let go it probably would have by now, it's all the other wear and tear bits you'd be looking at. For that budget I would look for a very well maintained 3.2 engined 987.1 S from 2005. I think they are the sweet spot. Although the 2.7 is still worth a look.

Cheers for the info folks, car I'm looking at has 60k on the clock, garage I use are selling it and will be servicing although I know one end of a spanner from the other, so may do things like disc and pads.
Will have a test drive first though and see what I think, will never be driven like I stole it though, white van for that :D

I would get a Porsche specialist to look over it if I were you. It will cost a few hundred quid but give you peace of mind and things like bore scoring can be checked. People look at a £10K-£15K and say why would I spend say 400 quid on a proper inspection? Well you are buying in modern terms a 60K sports car, with 60K costs potentially, not a 15K Golf. That's why and my advice is get it checked over to save pain down the line. Nothing worse than driving off and needing a 10K engine rebuild etc.

got a crazy idea to paint/wrap my wheels lava orange + mirror covers and side stripes at bottom of doors....... thoughts. Car is a 991 GTS in jet black met. The "look" would be a 997 GT3RS.

Also like the gold wheels Chris Harris has on his GT3 touring..... im suffering from too much black, and want something temporary to change it.

With the boxter, one thing to check is if its had any blocked drain holes in the past, these leak into the floor when blocked and soak the engine management box which is under the passenger seat. Friend of mine just found out he needs his done and its going to cost quite a few grand to replace if it can't be refurbed.

Deposit down car getting inspected this week, hopefully grubby mitts on it next weekend. :D

Insurance is £340 got to love being old!

Epic! That's really good on the insurance, I wish mine was even near that figure. :(

Be sure to post pictures once you have collected it.

its a few pages back on here... 991 GTS. :D

Admiral multi-car. Couldnt believe the price myself. Saving me hundreds of quid across the cars we have.

I found Admiral multicar good for 2 years then they suddenly seemed uninterested and the prices went ridiculous.

Switched to Aviva multicar, they were good for a year then silly pricing.

Now switched to LV multicar (a new venture for them), and pricing is sensible again...but for how long?

Mines being parked in little Beirut so I was quite surprised, going to empty the garage but is is down as on road parking.
Our insurance is with swift cover also have an ex police t5 on it.

Interesting news update:

https://newsroom.porsche.com/en/company/porsche-sale-new-vehicles-europe-15574.html

As part of the transition, there will be a phased introduction of the model derivatives. Starting in September, selected models from the 911 and 718 model lines will be available with a gasoline particulate filter. The 911 4 GTS with all-wheel drive and PDK will also be available in three body shapes from the outset – as a Coupé, Cabriolet and Targa. Alongside the 911 4 GTS derivatives, the new technology for gasoline particulate filters (GPF) will be implemented into the 718 basic and GTS models and then into other model lines.

So that would mean no 911 (RWD) or 718 S models for the moment. :(

Just had a call from my OPC, who said its going to be unlikely any RWD (911) cars will be produced this year. However, they are trying to follow it up for me.

So it maybe a case of my order will get moved to a 992 and i'll have one of first ones off the line.

Booking mine in for a service, new belt and clutch oil refresh. Can't wait!
