Porsche Owners Thread - If you own one or just like or hate them! :)

wow looks nice.

How much did that cost you? will it give you much more power or better sound?

1.5k delivered, they normally sell for over 2k second hand so I snatched it up as soon as I spotted it.

When combined with the larger throttle body and plenum the gains are across the rev range on power and torque. Supposed to sound awesome, can't wait! :)

It's painful how much the price increased on the X51 boxes when they launched the 997.2. I bought mine for $700, resold it for 3 times that.

Yep, in 2006 Porsche would sell it you for less than 1k, now they list at 5.5k and after much haggling they offered me one for 3.8k, way too much. So at 1.5k I went for it. :)

Yes, X51 throttle body which is the GT3 throttle body, same part number. :)

Is an airbox & a throttle body the same thing then? (Genuine question, I'm clueless about oily bits)

What else is involved (other than the plenum that you mentioned) in the upgrade to X51 spec? Is an upgrade to X51 spec your goal here? Project: Ultimate C2S?

What changed between 997.1 & 997.2 C2S engines? Power went from 355 to 385 didn't it? Did 997.2 C2S include X51 as standard, or did something else change (map etc)?

Nope they are separate, just X51 air box hose only fits the larger throttle body, I'm using an Maxspeed plenum, not X51 plenum as am keeping the stock intake manifolds, as removing them is a lot of work and the gains is unknown.

Full X51 spec was dual intake box with dual filters, larger throttle body, X51 plenum, intake manifolds, stiffer spring in cylinder head for higher rpm limit, X51 exhaust manifolds, PSE exhaust, 600 cel cats and X51 remap.

I don't have X51 intake manifolds, x51 plenum or modded cylinder head. These I don't intend on bothering with, a nightmare to fit and the gains in the X51 kit are said to come mostly from the bits I've gone with. On top of this I am however using better flowing filters and have 200 cel cats which flow much better along with softronic map.

997.2 engine went to 380BHP as Porsche moved to direct fuel injection giving more power and much better economy. There was still a power pack option which took them to 404BHP area but was a lot cheaper as was not carbon.

Mine when done will hopefully be somewhere in 385-395 area hopefully, the biggest gain comes from the 200 cel cats as a individual component.

Gibbo how long do you plan to keep the car now? If your not looking to jump upto a GT3 would you consider a 997.2 GTS? I would have loved the GTS but I cant really afford one.

997.2 GTS are awesome, but from where my car is now would not be much of an upgrade if any at all in power/handling. Next step has to be a Turbo with some weight pulled out of it or a 997.2 GT3, or GTR or a Z06. Or go back to a CSL as a dedicated track/weekend weapon. Gonna keep 911 until mid next year then see what I want to do

My car has gone in for its MOT today, lets see if they try and pull the 'your car needs new tyres sir' con again. I swear I'll rip them to pieces if they do.

How much tread was left when they tried that last time?

6mm on the fronts and 5mm on the rears when they tried it (for the 3rd time in 18 months) 2 weeks ago.

I had the car back on the ramp with the service manager asking him to find me where there was 2mm on any tyre

Car passed the MOT - no advisories and no sales pitch to change my tyres!

I've got my fathers 997 911 CS for the weekend, it sounds amazing and is easily the best handling car I have ever driven! Not sure it's feels as quick as I expected but maybe that's because the power is so linear. Front end also feels light at times but I think that just takes some getting used too.

Sat nav is so crap, how easy is it to update?

Very nice, the speed is deceptive, because it carries it so well. The front end does take getting used to, but once you get used to it, it is so rewarding. The PCM is very easy to update, go to 911uk and you will be able to ask for advice over there, just usually a cd that you pop in with the update on. Although don't usually get extra features, maps are available if you know where to look.

Gotta say this video shows how good the 911 is:-

Even more impressive is it's a cab, and a bog standard model, no fancy torque vectoring, ceramics, or PDCC, a modern Carrera S 991 with all extras would be even quicker.

For comparison the 997.1 C2S did a dry time of 1:24.6 and new 981 Boxster S is 1:23.9

Porsche really are in a league of their own handling wise. :)

Sadly they don't seem to be a league of their own for customer service at the moment.

Just had a phone and chase up the Service Manager who promised me some paperwork 'in a few days' 3 weeks ago.

Porsche sold me the car saying they had just done a Major Service, a few weeks later I checked the paperwork and saw that it stated Minor Service so the car went back to them to make it up to a Major Service and do the 60k items (belts and plugs).

When booking it in for a service last month I was told computer says it's only ever had a Minor Service. They won't provide me with the paperwork to say it's had a Major as I wasn't the customer (Porsche was) and I've been waiting since for a signed letter confirming it had the extra bits done to make it a Major Service.

Anybody know what they do extra on a Major over a Minor?

Air filter change isn't it?

Yeah just checked through my service book and it looks like the air filter and a bunch of visual checks.

Despite the service manager saying on 2/4/13 that I'd have everything by 8/4/13 I've just spoken to him again and he's said he'll get it on it tomorrow and hopefully get it all to me for 29/4/13.

Looking through all my paperwork they've got the following wrong;

1) Airbag check 3 weeks ago not been stamped in book.
2) I was told when I purchased the car in May 2011 that a Major service & 60k service had just been completed and it had a FPSH and was totally up to date. What had actually been done to the car was a Minor service and no 60k service at all.

I spoke to them about point 2 a few weeks after I purchased the car and got it booked in FOC to be sorted, looking through the paperwork and stamps it appears they replaced the spark plugs (but not the drive belt) for the 60k service and nothing to suggest the Air filter was replaced to make my Minor service the Major it should have been.

They've also had 2 attempts at fixing my drivers side seat belt which hardly retracts on it's own and have said they can't get it any better, despite adjusting something and making me wait 6 weeks to order a new seat belt from Germany.

This is all excluding the 3 times they've tried to tell me I need new tyres when my tyres are perfectly fine.

I'm seriously starting to get very annoyed by them and wonder if a letter to Porsche HO might be in order.

Get to a baseline where everything tallies up, then find a new OPC...

Have you escalated your issues to the DP yet?

I don't remember anything about drive belts needing replacing? Is that specific to the 3.4 or have I missed / forgotten something?
