Porsche Owners Thread - If you own one or just like or hate them! :)

I think it's worth being patient, you've got plenty of awesome cars to use in the meantime and when the right one appears you can grab it. You know full well if you compromise a UV car will come up the next day!

OR, sell the 458 and get a 675LT Spider. Please.

No Mclaren can rival the 458 sorry, as a fun supercar for the road not much to be honest will rival the 458, staggering performance aside Mclarens do diddly squat for me. I prefer cars that are fun to drive both at legal speeds on the road and insane speeds on the track, as such I find a lot of cars damn right boring on the road once you get pass maybe the cool looks and sounds which some cars offer.

It is why the GT3 RS is somewhat a wild card for me as I know a couple of guys who have GT3 RS along stuff like 458's and 812's amongst some other cars and they personally feel I would potentially find the GT3 RS a little boring on the road compared to the 458 which is such an event whether its been driven at 10mph or 100mph.

However a GT3 RS was a dream, it still is a dream, just the 458 through the spanner in the works, but if I can get into a GT3 RS and keep the 458 it seems worth while exploring that route, end of the day if its not for me they are quite easy to move on, gonna be the case of meet your hero and either be disappointed or love it, having only driven the RS on track, which I loved I am yet to experience an RS on the road, thank fully the gearing on 991.1 GT3 RS is reasonably sensible, not 458 short, but it is also not crazy leggy at around 70mph in 2nd and 100 in 3rd.

Yes I am going to be patient, I am gonna view the low mileage lava orange with the crazy orange interior, it is worth a look, but I intend on holding out for a fair priced UV with around 15-20k miles which should be more in the 140-150k price region, which is where I want to be.

My other option is just wait until got Emira, enjoy that for Summer, sell it end of Summer and then hunt down a GT3 once Winter is upon us again and maybe recession which could result in some good deals hitting the market.

Are there signs the general 911 market has peaked yet? My ambitions are slightly lower (991.1 C4 GTS or Turbo) but I can't bring myself the pay the current overs for it.

I've always wanted to own a 911 Turbo but - thinking I had forever to make a choice - never stretched myself at the time. Now with a line drawn in the sand for ICE cars, and used prices going crazy, I'm worried I've missed the boat. I was eyeing up a stunning low mileage 996TT the other night, but they are almost 20 yrs old now and obv have questionable looks for some. A 997 Turbo might be better, but the prices have crept up and tbh are too close to 991 prices for my liking. Im hoping prices return to something more reasonable.

Just bought my first Porsche 911 - a 996 3.4 Carrera 2. This is one of the much talked about 'lightweight early cars' that the market has gone mad for. Cable throttle, no driver aids other than ABS, etc. My god I've missed fun drivers cars.

I've been looking to do this for a very (very) long time and always had a reason not to do it. I had some inheritance come though, YOLO blah blah something so I decided to just get on with it when a friend who maintained his brilliantly decided it was time to do something new.

Mechanically it is absolutely superb it wants for absolutely nothing. Its truly remarkable for a 23 year old car. The interior is absolutely great - I'll be doing a few things to get the bodywork to the same level - I think it might benefit from a front end respray, but equally I need to speak to a few car detail people and see what the art of the possible is.

Off the top of my head from the huge folder of paperwork:

- Its just had a major service (plugs, coil packs, aux belt) and then had a load of remedial work done (Gear box strip down and rebuild as needed, New Air con condensers, new brake pipes, various suspension components like top mounts, wheel refurb all shod in Michelin PS4)
- It had an AutoFarm engine refurb with new cylinder liners
- Its been to CG in the past and had a fair amount done - and the latest suspension work the Geo was put back as per the CG specs

It feels so tight, its just incredible. Grip seems endless.

I've had lots of quick cars over the last few years, and even though this is probably actually a bit slower in straight line performance than some of them, its absolutely incredible.

I'm also following the market as in very similar position - looking at 991.2 Carrera / S / T but mainly approved used so prices still seem steep

The market is pretty crazy and we’ve been saying that for a few years now. My 991.1 GTS coupe is practically still worth what I paid for it 4 years ago. Still can’t think what I’d swop it for tbh. Not a fan of the newer turbo Carreras.

Realised this morning that I’d not driven the .2 with exhaust valve open which could explain why it sounded so muted when I drove it, still not relevant for that car as its been sold.

was really impressed with the .1 Sounded great with exhaust valve open and wasn’t lacking in performance. Interior had leather dash and carbon bits which lifted it a lot. I’ve got first refusal on the car as they run it through their workshop but think I’m going to try and do a deal.

.2 was great as well, just not sure what would justify spending an extra £15k for me.

.1 is already near enough a modern classic. They fetch strong money for a reason. The soundtrack is so so much better than the .2, which sounds like an overgrown Subaru and doesn’t have the howl of the NA car. Love mine.

@Gibbo I think Ashgood have a purple RS in?

They do, was offered it by the original owner for 146k, but it has no warranty and also no warranty from Ashgoods as such I am leaving it, plus I might have found a car, fingers crossed. :)

With the amount of both GT3 and GT3 RS I've been offered / found which had new engines or engine rebuilds a warranty is an absolute must as it seems the RS is also quite impacted so anyone considering a GT3 or GT3 RS 991.1 generation, never let your warranty run out. A friend of mine is now on his third engine in his 991.1 GT3, it came with an E series, which I believe did not last long, it then had an F series which did around 19k miles before it registered a high RPM misfire, he has now just got it back with a G series engine in it from Porsche, on a car that had done less than 20,000 miles total.

So warranty is a must or just buy a 991.2 generation as problems seem less apparent but saying that the internet does not reveal much it is only in talking to owners, searching for a car to buy I was shocked at just how many have had a new engine or rebuild, at least Porsche seem to stand by their product and no one has complained to me about the service from Porsche in dealing with the issues, which is good. :)

Ashgood usually offer a 3 month warranty as standard, granted not as good as the Porsche one though.
Good news on potentially finding one though!
