Interesting your finding some RS cars with engine replacement too as I thought the major issue on 991.1 GT3 engines was resolved before the RS model was introduced. Those 12-13 model year GT3 cars are now quickly approaching their 10 year birthday and that 10 year warranty porsche put on them is soon running out eh.They do, was offered it by the original owner for 146k, but it has no warranty and also no warranty from Ashgoods as such I am leaving it, plus I might have found a car, fingers crossed.
With the amount of both GT3 and GT3 RS I've been offered / found which had new engines or engine rebuilds a warranty is an absolute must as it seems the RS is also quite impacted so anyone considering a GT3 or GT3 RS 991.1 generation, never let your warranty run out. A friend of mine is now on his third engine in his 991.1 GT3, it came with an E series, which I believe did not last long, it then had an F series which did around 19k miles before it registered a high RPM misfire, he has now just got it back with a G series engine in it from Porsche, on a car that had done less than 20,000 miles total.
So warranty is a must or just buy a 991.2 generation as problems seem less apparent but saying that the internet does not reveal much it is only in talking to owners, searching for a car to buy I was shocked at just how many have had a new engine or rebuild, at least Porsche seem to stand by their product and no one has complained to me about the service from Porsche in dealing with the issues, which is good.
I was of the same mindset so to find three cars two with replacement engines and one a rebuild was somewhat shocking.
Yes the goodwill 10 year warranty ends soon which will mean an OPC warranty will be a must on these cars as the engines do let go.
Has anyone replaced the HDD for an SSD in their PCM3.1? There's various cases of the HDDs failing with the only remedy from the OPCs of a full replacement PCM unit at a fairly significant cost. I'm thinking of doing some preventative maintenance and cloning the HDD and using an SSD however, i note most non-industrial SSDs are rated for 0oC to 70oC only.
The environment within a car is fairly harsh but should I care? 120gb SSDs are cheap and plentiful and as long as it's not failing more than once a year, I'd be happy just popping the unit out and replacing Vs an industrial SSD which is theoretically more suitable to the temperature ranges but 10x the cost.
Has anyone had an experience of doing so? My Cayman lives outside all year round so would for sure experience temps lower than 0oC but I wouldn't be driving often in those conditions either.

Back to 991.1 GTS..... If I look at Autotrader (not my real postcode) they range from £70-£85k. I have first refusal on a car towards the top of that price range and I'm trying to work out if it's priced fairly. The £85k cars generally have ceramic brakes which I appreciate was an expensive option and the Porsche approved cars have a 2 year warranty which costs £2k which means they will be more expensive than comparative cars but otherwise what options are essential and nice to have. Mileage seems to have an impact on price, I'm personally not too fussed about high or low milage though I'm not interested in a very low mileage car as I don't view the premium as worth it.

Having owned one for a few years…. I’d say sunroof is essential, it’s really good on a sunny day. You haven’t listed the gts interior pack but I’d say that is essential too. It’s just not a gts otherwise. I’d also move the led lights with the four led drl’s to be essential as it looks loads better with it. I bought mine from a indie dealer but It had 12mths balance of Porsche warranty, best of both etc and I didn’t rate some of the OPC cars prep tbh. Chk for gravel rash on the rear wings and bottom edge nearest the tyres. I saw a few that looked like they had been rallied!
What colour you after? I got the car and spec I wanted (mine has pretty much everything on your list and a few more) but settled on colour choice. Nearly bought a carmine var but ended with black.

As others said gotta have GTS interior pack, buckets be nice too but rare and at very least extended leather interior.
At 85k are you not tempted by a GT3 at all, quite a few about around 100k with OPC warranty. Very comfortable on road still but an absolute mega engine.

I'm not really bothered about colour, much more interested in spec. Totally understand what you say about the sunroof, my father loved them on his cars but I've never really been bothered and barely used them on the last two cars that had them.
There seem to be some good specialists and the car I'm looking at is at one of the well respected ones (from what I am told by a friend who is very much into Porsche).

I'd not really got the GTS interior pack as the option as I'd subconsciously ignored all the cars with out it
My car fund is £75k, I don't mind topping up a bit with savings but £100k is finance territory and not something I'd want to do. Reality is that most lf the miles done in the car will be motorway between Cambridge and Heathrow/Southampton so a GT3 would be wasted. A Carrera S or even Carrera is probably the better option but I really like the GTS and believe/hope they will hold their values better.

I would put PDLS/PDLS+, GTS Interior, cruise control & PCM with Nav as Essentials, the standard headlights are guff and the CDR models are harder to retrofit CarPlay. Sport PASM and PDCC would be nice to have and the light design pack.
Worth mentioning that not only is the warranty ~2k of value but also Porsche dealers actually prep their cars properly. No matter what they say it's fair to assume even a specialist dealer has just washed it and put it on the forecourt.
My GT4 had nearly 5 grand of prep done plus the warranty, brand new Cup2s all round, major service, alignment & front end respray. It's worth it.
Also double check your situation with trackers and insurance, they'll all have it but whether it's working or not is another question.
Agreed on those options, but i'd say that not all OPCs are perhaps equal in respect of prep.... when i was looking there was a tendency for them to rectify issues only if you brought it up during the process tbh. Cant imagine thats any different now. I think the best option is finding a indie car of the right spec with some balance of its extended warranty on it which you can transfer. If its out of warranty id want them to have an OPC doe the 111 point check to flush out any other issues/negotiation points.... although i suspect given the market they arent short of buyers for the right spec cars.

Understand what you're both saying on specialist vs. dealers. The car that has piqued my interest is at a specialist that mainly does Porsche servicing/maintenance and seems to have a good reputation but I am a little wary that depending on how they will warranty the car, I could be looking at another £1000 on top of asking price to get Porsche to put a warranty on the car.

And the rest potentially! I know I’ve only got a lowly 997, but Porsche wanted a 111 point inspection, major service, 4 new tyres (to change to N rated) and the Parrot Bluetooth module to be removed before they’d warranty… and of course that lot is before the cost of the warranty.
It’s a great warranty by all accounts. Had I only had to pay the warranty cost itself I would have gone with it. If you’re looking to service the car at OPC anyway then you should at least consider it.

I cannot remember if I posted or not here, but in short as long as my friends deal goes through, I am buying his absolutely stunning Guards Red 991.1 GT3 from him, 15k miles, 2yr OPC warranty, full IPE catted exhaust which sounds insane, buckets, extended leather, lifter and a recent full XPEL Ultimate application costing £3700 and the IPE exhaust system was £7000. We have agreed on 110k which I think is fair as finding a 991.1 in Guards red is near to impossible and they always bring a premium.
Its not an RS but after missing out on some UV RS's and then the other cars been available been tracked too hard, modded and no OPC warranty put me off, plus once I am on the GT3 ladder as to speak puts me in a position to easily jump into an RS should one appear and should I still want one, plus it also means I don't need any finance by getting the regular model. Not only that I have always had a love for Guards red 991 GT3's with silver wheels, though the latter is not true it is something I will probably have done.
I already have the plate GT03 GBO for the car which was a good buy for £250, all been well based everything going smoothly for him were planning a collection and dinner on my Birthday, great treat for myself.

Indeed, for me its up there with a UV RS on the looks scale, I am debating silver wheels as I prefer that but only thing of consideration is the black stickers on the car and if it would then clash. I could remove the stickers but I do kind of like them and the question is can they be removed easily from PPF or would new PPF then also need to be applied.
honestly i think the stickers fit in very well.

Nah Guards red is an equal for me, plus wraps never look as good as paint.
