Porsche Owners Thread - If you own one or just like or hate them! :)

The scam is that a 911 has four seats :D
Can you really use them though? My neighbour has sold his 992 Targa 4 GTS to get an M3 Touring because it was a pain. His kids are around 6 and absolutely tiny for their age so I couldn't imagine trying to use them for anything other than emergencies for people with legs..

I have a 4 year old and a 0 year old so hoping I can get away with the long-con; but will check out some other things too (F Pace SVR, M3, E63 Touring etc)...

It shows how tastes change. The adage in 996/997 times was "any colour is fine unless it's green". Viper Green of course been the exception on GT's.

992.2 GT3 launch

5 seconds quicker around the Ring I believe...that 99.9% of drivers will never realise of course.

Once you see a proper hand in a GT3 at the Ring you realise that.....yea, cant do that in my car.
No effort in this video lol, Andreas speaks brilliant english

My 12 year old and 9 year old fit perfectly well in the back of my 996, they are old enough that they dont need car seats though which helps massively.
Should be plenty of 996/997 cars to choose from. Space in the back of any 911 is seriously limited, but perfect for younger kids.
I wouldn't be putting £30k into a 996 unless it's a turbo, and then the budget is too small. The market has collapsed on 996 currently, besides the oldest of them is now 27 years old.

Probably good 997 money though.

Agree, I took £30k as the top figure.

Fair enough. Could be that the newer ones have less space. That's certainly the case with the new M2.
And I barely fit in the back of a 964 when I was 11 :p

I think it mainly depends on on how long legged the parents are tbh. Kids needed to have no legs behind me in a 991. It’s not exactly roomy back there but fantastic for coats and bags and travelling tbh for 2.

Can someone with the patience link me to the perfect 911 under £27500? :D

You've missed it - but https://shootingbrake.com/Listing/Details/34179 was a hell of a lot of car for the money.

With regards all the chat about rear seats, before I swapped my 996 C2 Coupe for a 987 Cayman S, I used to take our two (10 and 8) all the time. Plenty of space in the back.

Basically an RS without daft wings, and gains a frunk plus manual option.

Overs though, doubtful modern Porsches are getting slaughtered at moment values wise bubble truly popped.

The bubble has totally exploded. My GT4 has lost the best part of 10k value in one year. The market has gone back to the slow downfall of the sportscar, but it was a good resurgence whilst it lasted. It's a shame that a lot of people can't remain as enthusiastic about sportscars when there are other things to do!

Bring back the plague, I say. I want my ten grand back.

I found both of those too :D

Is a late series 1 nuts compared to stumping up for series 2?

Buy on condition and history. Get someone who knows the cars to look it over first. Whichever you buy it’ll be between 10 and 20 years old so could throw big bills. You’ll get a cherished first gen car vs a potentially rough round the edges facelift at the same money. Touch wood my 997.1 has been pretty reliable and it remains an absolute joy to drive.

Well, this was fun, not.

Managed to get the OE exhaust off.

One of the worse things I've had to do. The OE studs and nuts are made of cheese. 2 years and 6K miles and not one took a 12mm socket.

Ok Porsche owners, please tell me what you think:

I've had an mx5 for seven years and it's a great little car, but I want something else.

I'm looking at getting Cayman 987.2, 2.9ltr. One with passive suspension, as mechanical as possible. Manual gearbox.

I think 15-20k should get me a nice one with full service history from a dealer/independent specialist.

I understand that the service schedule is every two years.

I do my own maintenance and repairs where I can.

The plan is to get one of these, keep up the service schedule at an independent specialist every two years, but every other year do an oil and filters change myself, and any other jobs I'm able to tackle.

This will enable me to keep an eye on the car regularly and build up my knowledge of working on it.

I'll keep it for a good 10 years, do about 6k miles per year, Including an annual trip to the Nordschleife and the odd track day over here.

I'll put aside about 2k per year for maintenance and repairs.

A couple of concerns are that the mx5 is just so easy to work on, parts are cheap, the mx5 community is massive and it's quite easy to prepare to take on a fairly complex job and do it on the driveway at home for a fraction of the cost a garage would charge.

These Porsches have the engine all hidden away in the middle, parts are expensive and there's not much of a DIY community that I can find online.

Any comments on this plan?
