Porsche Owners Thread - If you own one or just like or hate them! :)

Drove the GT3 last night with factory exhaust to the pub, the differences are:
- it is silly quiet, valves open is quieter than valves shut on the IPE
- Car runs fine, not that it should not but just saying
- The downshifts are nowhere near as exciting. :(
- The last 500rpm (8500-9000rpm) sounds better in the car on stock system, the tone, shrill and induction sound is marginally better.
- I can drive like a knob without feeling so bad about it as I can't be heard for miles, lol. :D
- The IPE sounds so much better in general and makes the car more enjoyable, maybe also slows me a down a bit as I know I can be heard when pressing on.
- The stock system will hopefully pass track day noise, should do as you see plenty of them, booked at Donnington 17th, will take GT3. :)
- Cannot really notice any performance difference, but not really pressed on too much, supposedly the IPE system is worth close to 30HP/30Lb/ft and saves around 20kg, the latter I believe as lifting the factory system into place by myself was not easy.

Shall run the factory system for next 2-3 months, get a load of track days in and then maybe change back later in year or next year. If I start to not miss the extra noise I can probably sell the IPE setup for around £5000.

Track day #4 this year is Donington. My first time there in the GT4 and I think it's probably my overall favourite UK track. You get fun elevation changes, good variety of corners and straight bits, GP quality surface, decent garages and it's not £600 a time like Silverstone. Only wish it was a bit closer to home!

If anyone can do a proper photoshop on this top one to remove the Lotus let me know can send the full file, would love to get it printed.

Got chased by some yellow thing aswell

Great coincidence we were booked on the same day. Gibbo offered a passenger session in the 458 and have to say I was blown away, exceeded my expectations considerably. Cup2s and aggressive geo it would be properly properly quick, I've been in other supercars you'd assume were a step up on the 458 on track (GT3, AMG GTR, 570s) and have to say there was not much in it at all. Helps that Gibbo is very familiar with the track aswell :).

Afterwards he jumped in my passenger seat and gave a few tips as I don't know the track that well, quite successfully hunted down and dispatched a 718 GT4 which made me quite happy.

Thanks for me what makes the 458 a winner is just how good the chassis is and how forgiving it is at and beyond the limit, makes me somewhat tempted to throw a geo and sticky rubber at it for more track work, I too was surprised the first time I took it to Silverstone, I guess people, myself forget that Ferrari have been at it for decades focusing on driver focused cars, they just never seem that fussed about lap times and they may not be all out quickest car but are more than capable whilst at the same time generally been far superior and more fun road cars. :)
Ferrari have always somewhat been very focused at the fun aspect of driving which I applaud them for, cars need to be fun and engaging on the road at legal speeds, that is the weakness of my GT3, though yesterday in the Peak District it was great fun on the lumpy British B roads. :D

Hi there

So had the GT3 at Donington yesterday with Open Track, national layout and have re-booked for next Friday full day, was a great day. The car lived up to expectations, very consistent and can really lean on the chassis, certainly a lot more speed in the car yet, so got an alignment booked next week and back again next Friday for a full day.

Compared to the 458, the 458 is stronger in straight line and also feels move fun, chassis moves around more, even likes to slide and shorter gearing means you use the paddles more as possible to get into 6th whereas the GT3 can literally use 3rd and 4th. The 458 exceeded expectations and the GT3 lived up to expectations, making them both very good, for sure both could do with more track orientated tyres as the lightness of the Exige and been on cups makes it feel even more at home on the circuit and is the most engaging of all three cars.

I've put both Porsches up for sale:

Going to move to the dark side and try a Mclaren.
If it goes wrong I'll be back in a Porsche and no doubt jump into an RS.

Also for anyone un-aware and is due to extend their Porsche Warranty, the extended warranty cost are going up in September I have heard, but anyone buying a 1yr, 2yr or 3yr policy this month can get them at the old prices, no idea how much they are going up by but based on other brands probably circa 10-20%.

Can’t believe the GT3 is going already! The 600LT spyder sounds like a great option to replace both.

I get the impression that the GT3 was more of an itch to scratch rather than something to keep long term. Your main issue is that damned Ferrari is too good!

I did enjoy the 600LT test drive, of course a 40 minute test drive is generally exciting in any car, because it is new, though in fairness I've test driven some cars like an F8 Ferrari and been left cold, though the 296 left me thinking wow, but then thinking at 300k no thanks and the 812 also felt crazy special but as amazing as that was I could feel its weight and it also felt rather big.

Boxster Spyder - Biggest risk selling this, not seen a car with ceramics for sale since I've owned mine as such I will never be able to revisit or highly unlikely one with same specification as mine, it is also without a doubt potentially the best road car for driving enjoyment I own, it is just so right, the problems are I hate the fact it is black (forever dirty) but it does look incredible when clean, but I also hardly ever drive it, for track work as well balanced as it is the Exige, GT3, 458 are just simply better. As such it is more why keep something I don't use that much and resent because it is always needing cleaning, dire shame as it is a true great, also from a generation where Porsches were bomb proof but also very cheap to run and maintain.

GT3 - Definitely an itch for sure, but I have to admit it is an absolute class leader just feels so right to drive, the issue with it is that at 5/10 driving style it is just a firm and noisy 911, suspension squeaks, engine rattles because motorsport and as such it normal speeds though it fits like a glove and I never worry about scraping it or leaving it somewhere the car is somewhat dull to drive. Maybe a case of been too good and this is a gen1, I am well informed the gen2 cars are even more dull and regular 911 at normal road speeds and require silly speeds to come alive. Where the GT3 shines is when you open that motor up, chase that redline and really lean on the suspension, however when doing so you are travelling at somewhat anti-social speeds but it truly excels, the engine explodes into life, the gearbox is sensational and it is just a pin point machine with superb engineering. But its a bit like an on/off switch, feels normal at regular/legal speeds, then feels incredible when your naughty in it. The Porsche warranty does give great peace of mind though!

My issue is I want to try stuff, the special car market is a bit crazy but at same time availability of the greats is somewhat reducing as well, so I could be making a huge mistake selling two great and rare examples of already rare cars. But my view is if Mclaren ownership is a disaster I can sell up and go hunting down another GT3 but get the RS version this time round, maybe even in ultra violet.

I might also sell the Lotus as well, but I don't need to do so but from a pure sensible approach a 600 LT Spider could really do the duty of all three cars, track car, sports/super car, convertible all in one car, downside it sounds rubbish, so then I jump back in the 458, but Lotus ownership is cheap in all aspects so apart from filling a garage I don't need to shift the little orange pumpkin.

Yes the 458 is truly special, it is a car that can do the crazy fast, track stuff just like the GT3, something I thought it was not capable off, how wrong was I, but where it truly excels is at 5/10 it feels truly special but also engaging, its a fun and alive car even at 30mph and that is a trick not many modern cars, let alone super cars can achieve these days, the Exige is good here as well but that is a manual with manual steering for you in a little plastic car weighing as much as a fag packet.

I know I will be back in a Porsche, another GT product again they are so good and if Speciale prices ever calm down I might just sell the lot and jump into the true dream, but at 350-400k is silly money, now I might kick myself if in three years they are 700-800k but that kind of money is also brand new 765LT, Huracan STO and 296 GTB, though in fairness I'd still probably take the Speciale it is amazing how Ferrari can make a truly special machine whilst keeping the looks somewhat understated and clean, very much like Porsche though maybe the latest RS Porsche really went crazy, but function over form.

Shame @Gibbo but you only live once I suppose. Wouldn't be surprised if Ashgood try and buy them from you!

They offered me 146k for the pair, I've declined, had an offer of 108k against the GT3 so far from a private buyer. They also offered me their signal yellow PTS GT3 RS for 166k, kind of tempting but that is a big premium for a PTS colour as the car has nearly 18k miles as well.

Think you've priced fairly, hold out tbh.

I've priced towards the upper end but in fairness show me another Guards Red car, there is hardly any and my car has the stuff people want buckets, carbon, extended leather, lifter etc and some prefer steel brakes due to lower consumable cost.
The Spyder is very rare having the ceramics, manual and buckets.

So yep no need to give them away, literally within 5 minutes of the GT3 advert going live I had a call from a trader trying to low ball me at 102k, I was like thank you but the advert has been live literally for minutes so I really don't need to be accepting any offers right now.

Anything around 110k will buy the GT3.

Early days and unless you've got a unicorn McLaren lined up then there isn't any rush. Looks like a great buy at £110k compared to the other cars. Are the carbon buckets really a £14k price premium over the other guards red car? Not suggesting that your price is incorrect, just wondering how rare they are!

You're in a great position and it's a fantastic time to be a car enthusiast if you've got a couple of halo cars in the collection!

That car is 105k, my car is listed at 119k, will take offers. That car is missing a lot of optional extras that my car has:
- Carbon buckets
- Extended leather interior with red stitching (a must unless your happy with a plastic dash in your 100k car)
- Carbon interior and kick plates
- Recent major 8yr service (£2000 cost)
- Red matching stiching throughout on the doors and seated
- Heated seats
- 2yr OPC warranty
- Full XPEL Ultimate recent coating, cost typically £5000 to do new

I think the car at 105k has none of the above, options on these kind of cars make quite a difference to resale.

My car basically is a far superior and more desirable specification in arguably better condition with perfect paint and a full Porsche extended warranty with Porsche assistance. At 110k mates rates I'd say it is worth 5k extra all day long. I've advertised it higher because I feel it is where it sits in the market and I've not found a unicorn Mclaren yet.

In fact the Mclaren I was close to placing a deposit on I tracked down the original owner who based warned me off the car, ceramics due replacement, had a 2nd gear issue though only once and it was starting to have corrosion issues for the second time, he handed it back after his PCP deal of 32k down and £800 per month ended, it had done a lot of track days. An honest car but probably needs 30k worth of work, pretty shoddy it is been sold as an approved car, certainly does make buying a Mclaren somewhat hit and miss.

Spoken to a few other owners, one guy has a 600LT, GT3 RS and also has driven a Pista on track a few times and has a 296 on order. His view is the 600LT is better than them all as a driving machine, even better than the Pista, more exciting, he even said it is more capable track car as well, the downside been it is crazy expensive to be tracking it and hence he got the GT3 RS for his track days as its a much cheaper car to run when doing track days and the 600 LT is his daily driver and occaisonal track day car.

The general theme seems to be nothing drives better than a 600 LT and they are extremely capable, another owner replaced his 458, then GT3 RS with one and loves it, he says he misses the 458 but does not miss the GT3 RS as the 600 LT is so good, the downside is running cost and potential issues and Mclarens lack of ability to deal with them another guy just sold his 600 LT and side stepped into a 488, his reasoning is the Ferrari hospitality and dealer experience was simply on another level and hence stepping into a Ferrari.

I think it is worth the gamble, I will just do my absolute best to buy a good example and do lots of due diligence before buying, as Mclaren dealerships can also be funny with warranty claims, you don't expect that kind of stuff on cars in warranty but I guess it is why the brand has its issues due to reliability issues and the customer service been hit and miss. I am probably their worse kind of customer (youtuber aside) as I am not made of money so will buy both very carefully but also aggressively, I won't just drop 150-175k on a car unless it is absolutely perfect.

I must say my visit to Manchester was on another level compared to when I visited around four years ago, so they have made a major CS improvement on a sales front so I guess heading in the right direction, just sad that a new car can have corrosion issues and other niggles, even cars with PPF from new can have issues.

600LT is immense. Get a good one and they are the best value by a country mile. I’m likely to go 720 I think.

Yep bit of a mindfield finding a good one, but once the cash is in my bank from the GT3 sale, I can be on the look out, if a totally perfect spec car for me pops up I will probably jump on it even if its around 170k, otherwise I will sit back and wait for the big crash to happen or hope it happens and then jump on a car that fits the bill and seems decent.

720S going to crash hard for sure, can see those around 120k come new year. Lot of car for the dosh, just not the car for me, has to be the LT.

I don't know if this is your cup of tea but that MSO Blue is lovely

Then this Apex Clubsport with the Senna seats 1 of 2 right hand drive in the uk out of 20 in the world

Looks very similar to this car...... is someone really putting 400 miles on it and trying to make 25k profit?

The white ones look like a Storm Trooper, the Scott Hardy car was offered to me before it went up for sale, it is absolutely stunning but I don't want a white car and when paying 100k plus for a car it HAS to be a colour I want and NO I am not wrapping a 100k plus car, money down the drain! It must also be a Spider, DO NOT want a coupe! Need to be fully exposed to that top mount exhaust which a Spider does perfectly with dropping down the rear window or folding the roof away. :)

The blue car I do like a lot, there is two for sale, one with 1k miles and one with 6k miles. Problem is neither have any exterior carbon which can make shifting on hard work, no doubt hence why those cars are sitting around even though they are stunning, maybe potential for a deal though. Not rushing into Mclaren ownership as I don't want to be stung with like potentially 30k or more depreciation.

I like how the APEX Clubsport description uses the phrase "shod with".

Had a look at APEX Italy car when I test drove the red one, does nothing for me in person, I'm just not fond of white cars. Has to be Mclaren orange or Papaya or Helios orange, will also consider pearlescent red, blue, yellow or green too. Absolutely no white, black or darker hues of blue/purple, but I will admit the black really works on a Mclaren looks like bat mobile, but black cars just look grubby all the time, so not for me.

It does look very Storm Trooper like and when paying that kinda money you would want it just right like you said and a spider would be a must the few black ones on Pistonheads do look like the batmobile from the old tv show :D

If I was going for black, I'd be all over this:

Absolutely stunning car and that blue flake in the paint, it is like carbon black from the E46 M3, epic colour, but be forever cleaning it and annoyed that it shows dust and marks five minutes after a clean.

This one is far more up my street:

I really like the MSO edition cars with the wings with the carbon louvres, functional too.
Only thing i am noticing is for whatever reason cars with the louvres don't seem to have any exterior carbon, I do know the louvres were a very expensive option so maybe there was no more money left for additional carbon options or it is something Mclaren defaulted as I think they change the colour of the exterior dark grey bits to gloss black. But not 100% sure, guess I'd need to ask around the dealers to see if they can shed any light on it.

epic car do you think you will end up moving the 458 on once you get the MC ?

No plans to do so, it is too special, if someone wants it they can buy it for 200k. :D

Out of all Mclarens for sale this is my favourite:

Real shame its got comfort seats as would prefer P1 buckets or Senna seats, but that aside its one of the best colours and I've sold a red car, only right a red car replaces it, enquired about it, see what kind of deal they can do otherwise will just keep hunting.

If you’re after a green one there is this one up for sale and I know the previous/current owner (may be on SOR).

I’ve actually be warned of that car on social media with basically been told it was purchased in May this year but then sold / handed back so previous owner only had it for around two months, whether because of issues or just someonejumping in and out of cars a bit like me is an unknown. So be interested to hear any feedback you know about the car please either here or drop me an email or message on insta or FB as I think you have my contact details.

Ha and how long did you have the GT3?

Got it on June 3rd and new owner collected yesterday:

Sold:

Lilian Stanley sorted finance for him who were superb and easy to deal with for both myself and him, so anyone selling privately who has a buyer needing finance I can highly recommend.

Hi there

So driving home from gym in the 987 Spyder and the shifter went all loose and I was able to select first gear but now it won’t come out of first and I can’t select any other gear. Clutch is working fine just my gear knob has lost its mojo and gone all floppy.

Am guessing snapped or fallen off shifter cables?

Anyone changed on a Boxster or Cayman?

Hi there

Got the Spyder back, bill was £1259 which included a service, new revised genuine cables, assembly and bracket.

I must say the already good gear change has improved considerably, feels a lot more positive now which combined with the short shifter probably makes it one of Porsches best shifters with all new updated cables. Very happy! :)

Still have it listed for sale but I am leaning more and more towards keeping it if honest, will see how life with the 600LT Spider is, if I fall in love with it then I guess I don't need two Spiders.
