Porsche Owners Thread - If you own one or just like or hate them! :)

New 991 Turbo S looks insanely fast for a standard car:-

Looks like 6s too 100mph, silly quick for a stock car, imagine it with a remap.

The feeling of envy is hurting right now. My dad got a call asking him if he wants to have an hour long test drive in the new Turbo S, in Burgess Hill. So upset that i'll be at uni so can't tag along

Whilst not adding anything of any real value to the thread, I Spent Monday at a track day at Spa with a mate and his 996.2 GT3 CSR (modified by RPM Technik to be more track focused). Was a great experience, such an epic and characterful track, which I am sure is a favourite of any petrol head. Gibbo, I know you like your track days, it really is a must!!

So many nice cars in the pit lane, managed to also get some rides in a 997 GT3, 997 Turbo, 650bhp GTR and an Exige S. Cracking day which left me wanting a GT3 possibly more than anything else in this world! One day....

Please do, they are superb handling cars, just need 400BHP. :D

Yep, I will take some pics tomorrow.

Say what?! You said you didn't think the interior was any good and preferred the F type over a boxster..!

You kept that quiet that you were buying a Cayman!

Actually I was wrong about the interior, the cayman and boxster are both very good. I was thinking of the old boxster when I posted however I think the F-type is still better.

I only have it for the weekend with the view of px'ing my 911 but I think I will be keeping my 911 (my move to the US is off for now) its a good car but its just not a 911.

I will post more tomorrow.

Sorry I forgot to follow this up. So I did 500 miles in the Cayman on a mix of roads.

The car is nothing sort of amazing, the handling is just so good it makes even the normal drive like me into a driving god :D, you just tell the car where to go and it will do it. You really do not need to have any more than basic driving skills to get the most out of this car.

The interior is equally as good (I was wrong in my other post), its extremely comfortable and just a nice place to be.

Now the down side, its lacking in power especially under 5k RPM, the only way to get any form of power out of the car is to drop a couple of years and take it from 5k to the red line. Which is fine if you are on a track but it takes a lot of the fun out of the car for normal day to day driving. If this thing was putting out 400 BHP I would be willing to buying it but its just not quick enough for me.

So I have decided to keep my 911 for now, its looking like I will be stuck in the uk for quite some time (my wife is not playing ball) so I will save up my pennies and buy at 991 S early next year. provided all goes will I think I can probably manage low 60's so hopefully by the end of the winter I can get one.

Very nice.
Actually they are hardly any slower than the 911, what your noticing as a problem is the stupid long gearing and lack of torque the 3.8 motor has.

Shorter gearing would be a huge improvement alone, more torque to the wheels. But yes 3.8 would be nice.

For me Cayman is not as challengin to drive, which makes the 911 for me more fun and addictive.

Boxster 986

Looking at the 2.7 as the 3.2 S, which is not bad at £1500 to insure for a 21y/o, is a little expensive for me to go for, just under £1100 for the 2.7 sounds a bit better on the wallet.

Anything to be looking out for on these?

Yes, many many things. 2.7 is more reliable and at your age and lack of experience the one I'd recommend.

Just be sure to get a Porsche 111 inspection done before buying or a specialist to inspect the vehicle, otherwise within 3 months you could have a bill as big as the car cost you to keep it on the road.

So could potentially be a disastrous car.

Reason i'm looking at them, I went out last Monday and my mate recently bought a 2.7, naturally I had to have a go, Its such a nice car, sounds awesome, put your foot down and it just gains speed so effortlessly, surprisingly comfortable.

Due to a new job and a tax rebate, I now have a little bit of cash saved back, and one of these is now on my list of cars to look out for.

which started from a E46 330ci, Z4 and now this.

I'm just looking at what options i've got with a budget of around 5-6k with the possibility to stretch further.

.....I'm a mess :D

I wouldn't avoid the S due to your age, I had a 3.4L 987S at 21 and didn't kill myself.

Oh trust me, my age wouldn't stop me from getting one, i'm not the type of "Look at me, billy big balls, lets see how far I can push this thing", I am quite responsible on the road, which is a rare breed for a young lad... I just don't fancy paying £1500 again on insurance.

Each to their own, my first year was £1200 and then it dropped to £750 and I now pay £430, I wouldn't rule out an S as they do feel that much quicker.
