Porsche Owners Thread - If you own one or just like or hate them! :)

Just had my invite from Porsche UK for my driving experience in the GTS. I am going to be like a kid at Christmas.... lol.

porsche prices for some models are absolutely mental at the minute.

The prices of 996 and 997 GT3s are through the roof, the GT3 RS even more so. People mocked Chris Harris for selling his 997 GT3 RS 4.0 for some 30k above the original price at the time, they are now going for well over double the original price and some people are asking for crazy for even normal 996 GT3s

look at this as an example

90k for a 996 GT3

I nearly purchased a 997.1 GT3 grey with ceramics just over a year ago at 47k, now I wished I had as can't get a 997.1 GT3 for under 60k now. :(

On a plus side the 997.1 decent spec Carrera S have also gone up in value, aerokit, ceramics, manual, PSE, PASM, X51, Chrono, are hovering back over 30k now:-

Pretty crazy cars with lesser specification than mine are all in the 32-40k price bracket.

At this rate next year I shall make a profit on a car I've owned for 4 years. :D

Prices are crazy now, I dont know what happened but I think they will fall fast. I sold my 2011 C2S PDK with a massive spec for £44k, Now £45k isn gets you a 09 car!

Gibbo its a good time to sell your one and look at upgrading to a Gen 2 when the prices fall. I will be getting my wallet out as soon as the 991 C2S PDK is £55 to £60k.

I dont know if this its a crazy idea but I am thinking of selling the Panamera diesel we have and ordering a new Panamera hybrid. Man maths here but I will get £45k for my one. The new one will cost me £93k.

I was hoping I can get the dealer to £10k off list, I will get £5k gov cash back brining it down to £78k.

Now if a self employed person can use the enhanced capital allowance (or is this only for LTD's??) I will save £24 500 in tax so the cost to upgrade would only be around £8500.

thats real man maths for you lol.

thing is, the 993 porsches always commanded a massive premium due to them being the "last of the air cooled".

Even 993 Turbos are still well over 70k while the 996 Turbo is unloved and can be found for under 30k.

You'd think the bubble would have burst on 993 porsches, but as that 250k RS proves, the 993 still command a massive premium despite the sudden increase in interest of 996 and 997 GT3s and GT3 RS.

Everybody is saying the bubble will burst - but based upon the price behavior seen with 993 911s, i'm not so sure.

How much does the 997 lose in convertable form in terms of handling and feel, I am loving the idea of 911 at the moment but want to keep the ability to put the top down and all the sources say handing and dynamics wise, if it's got no roof a Boxster is the way forward, but I'm not so keen on the Boxster at present.

In 911 terms on Carrera on the gen1 the options which de-value them are as such:-
Convertible
Tiptronic
No Chrono
Basic seats, basic wheel

A car with the above spec around 2005 build with say 60k miles would be around 18k.

Two types of 911 buyer, person who knows nothing about cars and just wants a 911 because it is iconic or they just want to look good, as such they don't care about the cool optional extra stuff and just want stuff like nav and bum warmers and don't mind the junk tiptronic. As such these cars go for very little money.

However 997.1 06-08 built cars are selling for considerably more, uprated IMS, better SATNAV etc. Then options such as manual, chrono, PSE, extra leather all add to the value. Then the rarer performance spec'd models such as aerokit, ceramics, X51, Chrono, PASM are fetching big money now because of how much GT3's have gone up and as such those spec'd Carreras follow them.

Want a great drivers spec 911, gen1 25-35k, in gen2 50k+ or you need a GT3 which is around 65k.

Don't care about spec and just want a 911, some great bargains to be had, especially on tiptronic o'Fail editions. :D

P.S. As to handling feel, no idea, never driven one. But hey a 997 Carrera S with stock brakes, no aerokit, no X51, no chrono, no PSE is a considerable different driving experience to one with. Bear in mind a 997.1 can weigh as little as 1380kg in right specification, or as heavy as 1600kg with the wrong options, or convertible. That weight will impact handling!

Damn, here was me hoping you were going to say

"I drove the convertible version of mine and could barely tell the difference"

For me 911 convertible just looks wrong.

Why not look at the Boxster Spyder, 1275kg and 330BHP, not a better sports car than it and they hold their value.

Or 981 Boxter S again another sublime sports car and both hit 60mph in around 4.5s and are incredibly easy to drive quick but fun.

Just 911 convertibles do nothing for me, looks wrong.

That's pretty bad, but not quite as my dads scenario! Was looking at a a 1960's 911 turbo for about 50k, then saw practically the same one selling for 90 odd the other dad. Ouch was the word...

Those ones are nice you have linked to gibbo. Sounds like a good time to buy if prices are are at least stable ?

Good time to buy if they kep going up, but who knows prices could always fall, but it seems at the moment a lot of cars are having an uplift in their values.

A good time to buy is when you want a new car and change. If I get 32k or 22k when I sell mine, I'd of course prefer 10k more but 911 ownership has being immense, expensive but it's by far the best car I've ever owned, nothing compares to the driving experience. :)

Yet people who have never been close to driving one will **** them off and talk about their drivers as if they are stupid and only bought it for the badge. All fool them.

Unfortunately many out there do buy them just for the badge and probably never drive them as intended.

Nothing beats coming of a roundabout or a tight corner and simply being able to bury the throttle and just be propelled into the distance, the traction from the engine layout is superb.

Try similar in the M3 and you'll just do a big slide. :D
