Porsche Owners Thread - If you own one or just like or hate them! :)

Hi there

Mannings insurance wanted £640 for insurance renewal with unlimited track days. Checked with who I insure the M3 with, also track cover, only £515, not bad for the 911. :)

That's classic line insurance.

How good is a 991 3.6 normal Carrera? Does the S have anything more than the non-s as standard other than more power? Mother wants one at some point, so I a looking at a years lease for her. Unfortunatly she doesn't like PDK, manual only.

A 991 Carrera with pretty much no options on 18" or 19" wheels will be a great drive, as close to older the 997 generation as you can get.

Yes the S version has quite a lot more standard equipment level, bigger engine, PASM as standard, bigger wheels, potentially stuff like Sports/Chrono and sometimes bigger brakes as well.

So it is worth checking for the detailed differences. The S is about sportiness and track ability, if anything the regular Carrera will be a better car for someone who is buying a 911 to look good in, go to the shops etc.

Also I was following a 996 Turbo yesturday near Truro on the A30, plate X** XOO, lovely black car, traffic kept cutting me up to stay behind it (silly modified 1.0 hatchbacks with no power). Lovely car the 996 especially from the rear. Hate the dashboard though it really would put me off buying one!

She has never gone about 4krpm in any car she has owned, she thinks doing so = instant catastrophic engine failure unfortunatly. She currently has a mk1 tt 163 convertible so is definetly a poser rather than a quick driver like I am. But she doesn't want another cab as she fears someone will slash it out of jealousy (someone did similar to her TT)

A Carrera would be perfect for her then. Just get a base spec and then hope that she lets you borrow it from time to time as it might be base spec but they are still incredible to drive. :)

not as fast as your one. Have you been on a long drive in it yet? I find the seats very uncomfortable after about 3 hours.

Hi House, thanks. Nice looking drive there! Is that a GTS?

Yes went on a 2 hour trip at the weekend. I have to say I find the panamera seats supremely comfortable but then I am used to the GT-R seats which are extremely uncomfortable for me for any longer than an hour at a time (I am 6'4''). I have only the standard Porsche seats (rather than sports).

In terms of the Panamera's ability as a car, I am totally staggered at how good it is. 99% as fast as my 600bhp GT-R but yet far better ride (even in sports plus setting), better steering, better interior, better sounding exhaust (especially with flaps open) and more room at the back. Yes the looks aren't to everyone's taste but pictures really don't do this car justice. It has great presence on the road.

No sadly its a standard oil burner. Its a amazing car, but our one is a little short on power. I think the 300 BHP face lift engine would be much better.

They are lovely cars.

Hi there

The car in this video is a guy who I know, Jack Wood, being on a few drives with him and on track with him, his car is looking superb and is essentially a 996.2 GT3 with AD08R's and Pagid uprated pads, apart from that standard car:-

Shows how good the Cayman GTS and how quick it is too in a straight line more or less matching the GT3 on the straight. But huge respect that a 11yr old GT3 can keep Porsche's best Cayman to date at bay.

Still this shows you how bloody quick the new Caymans are and the newer 911's really are something else. :)

Hi there

Cayman GT4 or Clubsport could be a reality, finally a true hardcore Cayman, I'd be wanting a spec such as:-

1250-1300kg weight
3.8l engine with power pack (430BHP)
PDK Sports Plus (Manual option too)
PDK Sports Plus steering wheel
BMW do it so why not Porshe, carbon roof
Aero kit
6 pot front, 4 pot rears, 380mm disc.
Carbon buckets
Rear Cage+harness option
AC / Stero option no cost option.
Passive dampers as on GTS but further tuned and maybe further 5-10mm lower. Or maybe even Ohlins setup!
Sports exhaust
Even wider front/rear tracks
Wider wheels with 235mm front tyres and 275mm rears in 18" and 19" size
Hydraulic steering
Alcantera interior trim
Mechanical LSD / Torque vectoring diff options
Shorter gear ratios!!!

Will they do it? Gonna be around 70-90k no doubt due to options but if it was remotely similar to the above then what a drive!

Well I looks like ill be joining the owners thread shortly, well I say shortly I have a long wait for my car. My deposit went down on a new Cayman GTS today and it say I am over the moon is a bit of a understatement.

Awesome choice, GTS is exceptional! Possibly the best car Porsche now have in the lineup as a drivers car.

911 goes on track tomorrow. :D

The 911 did a great job, beating off cars such as F360, R35 GTR and RS5 with a clear victory:-

Best time during timing was 1:24.90 not bad as I was taking it easy (ceramics) and not revving much beyond 6500rpm, track conditions were exceptional. My previous best time when was on steel brakes so was pounding them was 1:23.60. :)

Later in the day when timing ceased a friend in an E46 M3 was lapping faster, but in fairness he was running full slicks which make quite a difference.

Having driven on all types of tyre now at Donnington you can expect:-

Decent Road tyre (Bridgestone, Michelin, Yokohama)
Semi Slick: 1-2s time reduction from road tyre
Full Slick: 2-4s time reduction from semi-slick

Full slicks transform grip levels, you would not believe it and its hard to make your brain compete that you really can turn in at such speed at get on full power so early and also brake so much later. Full slicks do however put a car under massive strain, so make sure the car is built to take it.
