Porsche Owners Thread - If you own one or just like or hate them! :)

I see you have anti dazzle wingmirrors. I think that supercars (im classing a 911 as this) dont seem to age as much as normal cars. Look at an 80's 911 they look cool, then look at something like and escort not quite aged as well.

In fairness the 911 is probably the most iconic car ever for not aging because Porsche have always played it so safe with the design. The 911 is so easily recognised from the first ever to the latest one, the shape has remained the same, the car has just got a little larger with each generation. If anything the latest 991 edition is the least 911 of any generation as its got rather bloated in its dimensions and the rear end is a bit Aston Martin.

What I do like about Porsche is each generation has got lighter since the 996, for me 993 and 997 are the best looking 911's, they got it wrong with the 996 and the 991 is missing something I can't quite put my finger on even though its fastest 911 by far with the 991 C2S/C4S being quicker than previous 997.2 GT3's.

:D

Good work there Gibbo, looking good that! I may even have to make an appearance at the next rolling road now that mine is working again. See how many ponies she has lost over the years

If its being rebuilt proper, it should not have lost any. Mine is now nearly 10 years old and 50,000 miles, makes in the region of 375-385BHP, though its got a few bolt-on mods. :)

I guess the proof will be in the pudding so to speak. It doesn't really feel any different to before it went in so i would be interested to find out.

I've just got back from the Porsche Experience Day at Silverstone. WOW what a day, if you get a chance id highly recommend it.

I had 3 cars lined up for me at the special request of my dealer who I've placed the order with. I had a Cayman GTS with Sports Chassis, steel brakes and PDK, a Cayman S with PDK and carbon ceramic brakes and a manual Cayman S with PASM, carbon ceramic brakes and buckets.

I had these cars back to back in and around the experience centre and also out on public roads to get the most from the day.

Suspension:

So first off, I took out the sports chassis car and didn't know what to expect as these are fix rate springs and dampers as well as other chassis tweak. I was pleasantly surprised how comprised the car was. Its firm but its not crashy as I was expecting really. Even on the country lanes, its a firm ride but it hands the road really well and a huge plus is the epic feed back from the steering wheel.

Next I took out a PASM car, even before I got to the track I could feel the difference. The car seemed to roll and wallow and bit more and also didn't turn in as nice as the sports chassis setup. However, the biggest thing for me really was the feel of the steering as it just felt numb in comparison to the other setup.

So my finial choice there was the Sport Chassis.

Brakes:

This was another area where I was pleasantly surprised, as I have read loads of comments about the carbon setups so was unsure what expect. In short thought I found them to give a much greater braking feel and they seems to brake the same as the steels but with less effort. Then going back to a car with the steel breaks, the peddle felt numb again and also required more effort to achieve the same braking results.

So I've settled on the Sports Chassis, Buckets, PDK and carbon ceramics on my finial build, which is good time as its all confirmed and sent to Germany this weekend. My built slot at the factory has also now been confirmed as late Jan 2015.

I can't wait now. :)

wow they are some expensive extras you have put on. I assuming you are buying a Cayman GTS?

Did you not want to hold out for the GT4?

Yes its a GTS I have on order. Option wise, near enough the same price as a base 991 with most of what I want on the car but that's spec'ed to me. I did email my dealer with a special request for the paint, as they had a Mexico blue 911 in the reception area. So ill have to wait and see.

I did think about that but I placed the order for the car in September.

The instructor at Silverstone, said it should be due for release around April next year as well.

Absolute perfect spec mate. One thing you forgot to mention on ceramics is how quiet and smooth they are compared to steels, plus zero dust and the disc will last the life of the car. :)

But you got the spec spot on, sports chassis is sublime and with that you've got a road and track day warrior out the box, sports chassis still include the locking diff too? Buckets perfect, PDK makes going faster easier, epic car mate. Enjoy it nothing will match that for driving pleasure and handling dynamics. It is why I love Porsche they give you everything you need out the box to simply enjoy it in all environments. :)

Did you get sports chrono for PDK+ and launch control? PSE?

wow, that will be one special car. How long do you plan to keep it? If you decide to move it on in a few years email me first :)

I would have assumed the sports chrono and PSE is standard on the GTS?

The PSE on the GTS is different from that of a normal Cayman S, as it's much more audable. As above the Sports Chrono comes as standard fitment on a GTS, I have the PTV as a option as well. I'm just drafting my final spec now. :D

I did get the experment with the launch control yesterday, even though it was damp it worked very well. I'm not where I am going to use it mind.

I'm going to keep it for a while, well untill I have enough money put away for a 991 GT3. :D

To be honest the launch control is not needed, when I had the 981 Boxster, simply mash the loud pedal and it shoots of the line with no fuss and was still around the 5s mark without trying. :)

As I already said you are building a true drivers car. :)

Disappointing that Porsche wacked up the price of the Cayman and Boxster a little while back... seems to be a good 6-8k more expensive than the start of the year.

Surely your spec is coming out at over 70k... a lot for a Cayman!

It is indeed, but its spec'ed to how I want it.
