Porsche Owners Thread - If you own one or just like or hate them! :)

What's the motivation for a Cayman? If you're not using your 911 much then you'll use it less with a Cayman to drive too. They don't much like to be left standing around...

Honestly, nothing more than I like them just like I adored the boxster. I still think 6 to 12 months will see plenty of 10k caymans. I heard that the 2.7 engine in them is bullet proof as well but I think I would have to have the S. I would just be a bit more careful in it than I was in the boxster.

NICE! :D

I think some of the pistonheads pics had show a view through the window with a PDK gear selected cited.

I couldnt really tell though as that gaitor on the Porsches didnt make it obvious.

I will be honest, I'd be amazed if PDK is not an option because if I was buying one I'd probably chose PDK if honest, it is now finally an auto I like as long as it has the Sports Chrono and PDK Sport Plus option, and for manual I hope they put in the six speed and not the seven speed. :)

Don't like the wheels on that, they kind of look like the nasty 19" that came on the E46 M3 that everyone got shot off either for the 18" or CSL's. :D

They are 20" as they are a option on the Cayman.

I'm not overly solid on the maual gearbox on the Cayman (981), as for me ive found the throw too long. It would be great if they had a short shifter option for them or they had someone who made them but I couldn't find anyone who does. However, thats my personal preference.

Any thoughts on this Cayman chaps? It's the only one I've found for this sort of money that has, from what I can tell, the "right" options. I'm guessing Sport Tailpipes doesn't mean Sport Exhaust? That could be a deal breaker.

The extended warranty isn't too bad on these at £1595 for 2 years.

Porsche offer an SSK as an option. :)

Can't see a PSE button on the console, so guess it just has tailpipes then. :(

Yeah, I had a look at the "Build your own" configuration tool and you can either buy just the polished twin-exit tailpipes, or the full Sport Exhaust system. I may have to wait a while longer for the right car to appear because there are only 23 Caymans available with PDK.

Then again, hanging onto my car would make the most sense. Head vs heart, meh.

My father just had 6 injectors replaced on his Gen 2 997 after the one on Cylinder 4 failed. Interesting thing was Porsche change the design, hence all 6 being replaced due to issues with coking in the new DFI engines. The injectors they removed were difficult to remove and were coked to hell I am told. Cylinders were perfect after 36K miles. Had the car 1 week.

They don't on a Cayman (981), trust me I covered all the options before my order was signed, I even asked the chap at Silverstone about it who agreed.

As Gibbo has said, Sports Tailpipes and Sports Exhaust are two different options ones is a £365.00 options and one is a £1530 option.

My opinions on the options are:

2-zone automatic air conditioning - Yes must have option IMO. As the stand AC is basic.

20-inch Carrera S - Yes, these are my personal favourites and I have these on my GTS

Automatically dimming interior and exterior mirrors with integrated rain sensor - Yes another essential option for me but may not be for some people.

BOSE® Surround Sound System - Yes this is a plus point over the standard system but not a must.

Bi-Xenon lighting system with Dynamic Light System (PDLS) - Yes Yes Yes as I have read reports about the stand light (Non-Xenon) are a bit rubbish.

Cruise control - Nice option but no essential.

Door sill guards in stainless steel - Nice option but no essential.

Electric folding outside mirrors - Nice option but no essential.

ParkAssist rear - Id personally prefer them with front and rear but rears are good.

Porsche Communication Management (PCM) including navigation module with universal audio interface - Yes!!!! This is a must for resale value IMO.

Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) - This is personal preference.

Preparation for mobile phone Nice option but no essential.

Seat heating - Yes / No / No sure. Well for me I forgot about this one on the re-spec of the car.

Sport Chrono Package with dynamic transmission mounts - Nice option but no essential.

Sports seats Plus (2-way, electric) - These are standard fitment

Sports tailpipe - Nice option but no essential.

However, for me I'd look around for a S model over a standard car if that's possible. If you approached the dealer as well you should be able to get the warranty thrown in with the deal.

Also if you're paying with Porsche finance don't accept the first offer as its normally not very good.

Thanks very much for the detailed response :) Xenons are non-negotiable for me, but I'm starting to think that PASM would be a must-have too because my M135i has adaptive dampers and it makes a big difference to the comfort levels.

I think I'm better off waiting for more of these to hit the second-hand market. I also need to decide if I can live with the limited luggage capacity because I do go mountain biking a lot. I just can't think of another car that appeals to me as much as this one. The F-Type comes close, but I think I'm after handling more than performance.

On a Cayman or Cayman S it's essential on a 2nd hand car IMO as the stock set-up is good but its a bit boat like from a aesthetic point of view. What you will find with Porsche especially is the spec sells the car and on that point the price can vary allot.

I agree with you point about the F-Type for me, its a lovely machine but for a sports car is too heavy and from what I have read the weight is pretty apparent going from a 1800KG car to a 1300 KG car.

If its six speed, then to my knowledge its the same gearbox as in the 997 Carrera and GT3. If so then the SSK option for those cars should also fit the new Cayman. ;)

Its about £250 to buy from Porsche and then just fit it yourself, dead easy to do from inside the car! :)

I also noticed that the mileage makes a bigger difference than I thought it would to the price. The car I linked to is one of the cheapest with the most spec, but because it's done 21000 miles and other cars have done 5000-7000 with crap spec, they're all about the same price.

Interesting.

I've also had a quick look on planet 9 and they seem to think its not a option ether.

I am somewhat confused now then....

That's true but goes to show the value of options to a extent. However, you'll still have the dealer mark up on all these cars as well.

Try to find out if its the same box/shifter as used on the 997 series. :)

If it is you can fit either the SSK or the gen2 GT3 shifter. I put the gen2 GT3 shifter in mine as its like a rifle bolt as it uses metal bushes instead of plastic ones. Throw length is same though but I am happy with that.

You need the SSK if you want shorter shift length. :)

I'll do some investigation or go with the PDK :p:D
