Porsche Owners Thread - If you own one or just like or hate them! :)

I've done over 170mph on public roads, was perfectly safe and legal, it felt brilliant.

Point is 2.7l is slow, full stop, the 3.4s is hugely faster everywhere and very noticeable.

My point also is everyone breaks the speed limit, everyone and people in fast cars do it often if not daily if conditions allow.

1. I am not being an ass but you will want more power from first month, the 2.7 is a slow car, I mean come on 0-100mph is like 15s area, pretty much every hot hatch on the market is faster and the big power luxo barges are faster again. 40-80mph in a Cayman S is effortless in any gear, in the 2.7 you need to rag it and even then it is slower.

Avoid the 2.7 or even better still why don't you go and get extended test drives in both Caymans with different engines, Porsche are very accommodating, when I was buying my 911 I test drove several and dealerships were happy for you to try a couple of cars and most the time they just scan your license and hand you the keys. :)

You've got me sold on the S. But whats the likelihood il come across one soon with a huge spec and beige leather. I can't find a single one on the auto trader with a perfect spec OR the beige. Let alone both....

I want:

20" Classics
Heated Seats
Full Sat Nav
Upgraded Stereo
Automatic Climate Control
Bluetooth
Sports Exhaust System

You have brought many Porche's so I think your in a good position to offer me genuine advice on my chances of finding such a car with beige interior leather.....

If its likely I'm prepared to wait 2-3 months. If its highly unlikely I think I should get the 2.7 and accept its not CRAZY fast but its got a fantastic spec and the colours I want.

Just to give you an idea... I currently drive a 2008 220CDI CLK which I thrash the hell out of.

That will feel quicker than the 2.7 to be honest due to the torque, though the 2.7 is quicker car, but if you want to feel faster as well you need the 3.4S.

P.S. My 911 is my first Porsche, for me the crucial points for purchase was aerokit, sports chrono, PSE, 2006 build car or newer.

lol Gibbo just got owned by Fox!

When I got my 220 CDI (I was 22), 6 years ago, I wanted the faster 270 or 350. Iv just looked and the 2.7 Cayman is even much faster than the 320 CDI! 0-60 in the Cayman is similar to a CLK with a 5 litre engine!

:O

No it won't, it's glacially slow. The 2.7 will feel quicker and is quicker, by some margin!

Having driven a 2012 C220 and a 2.7 Cayman admittedly 987 the torque gave the Merc a false feeling of being much quicker than it was, I did say the Cayman was the quicker car and the new 981 more so. But to the point the 3.4s is a far far quicker car than them both in both feel and reality. :)

Not really.

Seriously stop looking at 0-60 it's the worlds worse benchmark for cars as you hardly ever do it. Look at the imprezas of old, 5s to 60 and everyone was like omg these are so quick, yet Honda Civic Type R's with 6s or slower 0-60 were overtaking the imprezas in real world driving conditions and Toyota Supra twin turbo with same 0-60 time as Impreza but I reality the Impreza was not remotely close.

30-130mph is best stat, but no one does that as Illegal but 30-70mph and 0-100mph along with 1/4 mile give a far truer representation of a cars performance.

Utter heap of a car (relatively), Cayman in any form will crap on that from a massive height in the fun factor sports car ability. Stop focusing on 0-60 times and pub debate statistics and learn to peddle a car properly on the right road as when you do you'll realise that thrashing is very different to driving rapidly.

Get Cayman, take to west coast of scotland, spend week on the best roads in the UK, come back, wonder why you ever worried about outright horses and 0-60 times. The flow of a rapid drive is so much more satisfying than a blast between a traffic island or set of lights, promise.

A few pictures are a quick clean today, iPhone seems to make them look darker than it really is.

And that looks bloody superb! Great in white, never thought I'd say that about a white car, but that works and it shows off the lines of the new Cayman which really put right the horrid lines (in some shots) of the first one. Right wheels too, if I can't get a GT3 at sensible money or ideally a GT4 via the back door then I am tempted to have one too.

it's gorgeous. I can't afford it yet but it's getting closer :)

It's looks like your reg is my15 gts? I'm not sure if it is or if you photoshopped it. If its real, you couldn't have got a better ref plate for your car :)

It's real, as that's the reason I had to wait till 1st March. It wasn't overly cheap mind.

Cracked the windscreen on the Panamera. £1288 to replace and 5 hours work due to all the camera lol

I also renewed the warranty today on the 991, £2k for 2 years of worry free ownership :D

Can anyone clarify the differences between sport, sport+ and sports chrono in a 987 with PDK?

Is 'Sport' standard and increases the shift speed, holds onto gears and blips on downshifts? Is 'Sports+' added with Sports Chrono or is it a separate option on its own? Sports+ is a change in the maximum slip angle and more sensitive throttle? Sports Chrono is the clock and dynamic gearbox mounts (or is that just the 981?) plus the Sports+ bits? For cars fitted with the gammy pdk buttons on the wheel is fitting the paddle wheel an easy retrofit?

Apologies for the wall of questions, any clarification appreciated.

You confused me lol. info for 997.2 and 991 as I know it.

Some cars with PDK have a sports button but not all (I have had a car without it)

Sports chrono adds the following
Stupid little clock
Sports+ button - Vert aggressive
Sports button - aggressive but fine to use on the roads
Dynamic engine mounts on the 991.

For my I would never buy a PDK without it or I would retrofit it.

paddle wheel retrofit was easy on the 997.2 but not so much on the 991.

Sorry I can not be of more help.

I've confused myself! If Sports Chrono (or at least the sport+ bit) and the paddle wheel can both be retrofitted with relative ease then that's good. Gen II Boxster values seem quite strong, 2009/2010 3.4 PDK start around £25k which seems a lot but there isn't much else that appeals.

Porsche prices seem crazy now. Cars I sold 2 years ago are still worth the same or more now.

They seem to be going mental at the moment. Each week I seem to note a 5K rise on each and every GT3 out there, of which the number diminishes each day. **** me, I could have sold my GT3 today, with 50K miles on it for 5K more than I paid for it with 6K miles on it in 2007.....from an OPC.

997 GT3 Gen 2's are currently circa 90K, RS's circa 130K, Gen 1's circa 70K, RS's circa 110K. THAT is annoying :(
