Porsche Owners Thread - If you own one or just like or hate them! :)

They seem to be going mental at the moment. Each week I seem to note a 5K rise on each and every GT3 out there, of which the number diminishes each day. **** me, I could have sold my GT3 today, with 50K miles on it for 5K more than I paid for it with 6K miles on it in 2007.....from an OPC.

997 GT3 Gen 2's are currently circa 90K, RS's circa 130K, Gen 1's circa 70K, RS's circa 110K. THAT is annoying :(

I cant see it going on much longer, I think the ass will fall out of the market at some point.

Even the GTS seems to be too expensive at £55k to £60k, my well specced 991 was only £63k

I put a 2 year warranty on my car yesterday cost was £2k for 2 years, not bad at all.

I have another Porsche Experience Day all booked up now for May, as gift from my OPC. I did ask for a GT3 but I wasn't on the cards all other models where mind, so I have another training session in a Cayman GTS. I will try and get some more pictures this time.

wow that was nice of them, I have not taken my one yet. Is it a full day or just half a day?

It's a half day experience. However, lunch and breakfast is provided depending on if you choose the morning or the afternoon session.

I've also given my dealer a LOI for the new GT3 and GT4, so which ever comes soonest. Hopefully that should be near the top of the queue.

Usually a reader, but had to login to add my 2pence worth.

2.7 vs 3.4. It's a tricky one, currently I have both a 987 manual 2.7 and a 981 3.4S PDK.

The PDK is mind blowing and very satisfying, the speed at which it changes gear really allows you to press on, the 3.4 is certainly a lot quicker than the 2.7, it's laughable how quickly you can get the thing up to speed. But there's the problem, I've owned my 2.7 for around 12 months now and not at any point have I been left wanting more, it's silly. Sure, launch control is hella fun and the whole theatrical nature of the 981 with it's sport exhaust certainly has left me feeling rather giddyish, but is it worth 30k over my old 987... I'm not completely convinced.

Everything about the 981 is probably what I genuinely wanted when I first bought the 987, but after two weeks of ownership with the 981 I'm weighing around the thought of whether it's worth keeping. Not just from a financial point of view, but mostly my licence.... Yep I'm sure someone will label me a child killer, but it's genuinely to easy to be doing silly speeds.

Day to day, the 981 hands down gets more 'attention' out and about, whether it's the 20" rims, the red calipers or the throaty rasp of the exhaust I'm not sure but I've certainly noticed a lot more heads turning.

The thing I love about my 987, it's beautiful, to me, I prefer it over the 981 and I feel it will stand the test of time better than the 981. I prefer the interior too, it's just a nicer and less tacky place to be - the 981 just looks plastiky, even though I have the leather stitched dash in the 981, it's just not as nice or feels as solid as the interior of my 987.

The radio/media to is a nightmare, too many buttons and the touch screen - similar to what Clarkson demonstrated on Sundays Top Gear - it's almost impossible to use. I much prefer the "old school" standard CD/Radio I have in the 987 where I can hit a button with certainty. Maybe that will change with time once I learn which station is where on the interface, but for now when gunning it down a lane, it's tricky to select the right thing.

Fuel, my 987 isn't bad, I get around 29mpg on average, the 981, though I'm certainly driving way more 'spirited' I'm getting 17mpg's. Yes it's quicker, but again, I'm not sure it's financially worth it given how well the 987 does.

I know I'm being a bit half arsed with my write up here, but I think what I'm trying to convey, is that if I were to do it all over again, I'd take my 15k and get the best 987 2.7 manual I could find. It's just to much car for the money and it's difficult to justify the cost of 981, the 'return on joy' isn't quite as profitable as the 987...

987 - 2.7 vs 3.4.... would really have to depend on what was available, I certainly wouldn't dismiss the 2.7.

This is a rather interesting read. 2015 McLaren P1 vs. 2015 Porsche 918 Spyder Comparison

TL;DR

Everyone knew this day would end with one car faster than the other. That car is the Porsche 918. Its clever all-wheel-drive system, talented Michelin tires, and superior braking performance delivered it not only the fastest lap but also a new record for production cars at this track. It is a superlative performance for a superlative car. Although there's undoubtedly some disappointment in Woking, the P1 remains the quickest-accelerating production car we've ever tested, and that wild sensation of speed leaves a deep impression on Pobst. "It was thrilling and satisfying and, yes, made me want even more," he says. "The P1 felt more like a race car than the 918, which was more super street car. The 918 was more civilized on track and in appearance. The P1 is the wild child."

Not bad for a car with 400 bhp

Thats pretty good, I was getting 34MPG odd from mind on the way back from Bournemouth.

I'll have to have a look over the weekend, to see what the average is.

Also, I am not sure if I agree with that written above on the 981 but thats the thing with opinions but also options can make a huge difference to the experance.

The spec list on a Porsche can make the difference between a ok car and a completely amazing car, however you have gone a bit crazy with the options on yours:eek::eek:

I did go a little crazy with mine but it’s what I’ve been after for a long while, so I made it a little special. However, now that I have the car I should have ordered the following extra options:

Homelink
Reversing Camera

I will see if I can get them retro fitted but I am not in any rush at the moment. The only questionable one for me was the heated seats as I don’t feel there is any need with the bucket seats and the alcantara.

This is my full spec:

Exterior Colour:

Carrara White Metallic

Interior Colour:

Black leather i.c.w Rhodium Silver alcantara package GTS

Exterior:

Electric folding outside mirrors
Automatically dimming interior and exterior mirrors with integrated rain sensor
ParkAssist front and rear

Transmission / Chassis:

Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK)
Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake (PCCB)
Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV)
Sports suspension (20 mm lower) Exclusive

Wheels:

20-inch Carrera S wheel
Wheels painted in satin platinum Exclusive

Interior:

Sports Bucket Seats
Smoking package
Adaptive cruise control incl Porsche Active Safe (PAS)
2-zone automatic air conditioning
Light design package
GTS interior package
Interior Leather SportDesign steering wheel

Audio / Communications

Telephone module
Digital radio
Porsche Communication Management (PCM) incl navigation module with universal audio interface
BOSE® Surround Sound System

I have been reading on PH that wait times for the GTS are currently around a year for the car and some are 2nd hand ones are selling for more than new :eek:

I would have added Bose, surround view, Porsche Entry & Drive, PDLS+ with dynamic high beam, Rear wiper that for me would make the worlds best Cayman GTS!

I got my dealer another Panamera order yesterday, I hope he thinks of me when it comes to the GT4 I have a deposit down on.

It's got Bose on it, I think I must have missed that off the above. The PDLS+ is standard on the GTS, so that just high beam dipping again I think for me thats in the same releam as the heated seats. The rear wiper IMO spoils the lines of the car.

Ah yes as long as its got the PDLS+, the High beam is not all that big a deal.

I know what you are saying about the rear wiper but I also like to see out of the bank in the rain!
