Portsmouth given Winding up Order

There are several things that i really don't understand about the Pompey situation.

1. From the BBC article today - 'Portsmouth are also involved in a separate dispute with former owner Sacha Gaydamak over whether they have missed a deadline in paying a £9m chunk of the £28m they owe to him.'

Is this a case of the owner loaning money to the club he already owns (abramovich did this but then wiped out the debt). In which case how is this allowed?! if the owner wants to buy players then use his own money, the FA/PL should NOT be allowing owners to saddle debts onto the club, it's daylight robbery. It's illegal for an agent to act for both club and player in a deal, so why is it legal for an owner to be both the loaner and loanee for cash debt.

2. How did the club change ownership without either new owners seemingly having any money, both the 2 Arab owners 'bought' the club for about £90m but then didn't have a penny to pay the debts or wages. The latest guy has taken over the club because it was provided as security against a £20m loan...how is it that a guy buys a football club for £90m then defaults on a £20m loan!?!

Something dodgy has been seriously going on at portsmouth for years and the FA/PL have sat by and watched it happen, their fit and proper ownership test is a joke. One day the whole story will come out and i think it'll be more crazy than anyone currently realises.

The court case is underway, also hanging in the balance today are the futures of Cardiff City and Southend United who have also been issued with winding up orders by HMRC could be a monumental moment in football history......

I remember being taught something, do as you will in life, but never ever screw with the taxman. Seems like some clubs never learnt this. Maybe it will bring some sense to the football world.

Neither has Harry 'Droopy' Redknapp! Tax dodger!

Could explain why Harry is now buying back our old players from Pompey for more than we sold them for. Trying to help them out of debt as he feels guilty? :p

Or robbing them of Kranjcar for £4m :/

No idea why he's still allowed in the game, it'll never be officially proven but he's obviously a dodgy *******

Having the results taken away from teams that beat Pompey should they go under will be rather amusing.

I wonder how it's going.

They have been given 7 days to pay up, so one final game against Southampton live on the TV on Saturday before the potentially disapear next Wednesday.

Just looking at the possible adjusted table, surely some teams have played Pompey twice and some only once though, so it will result in teams having a game in hand over each other?

It won't happen. The league can't just null and void previous results against Portsmouth, it would be unfair to the teams who played and fought for wins or draws (thinking more of the lower placed teams here). If anything drastic is going to happen, a 2-0 win should be given to Portsmouth's remaining fixtures as technically they are forfeiting the match. Again this isn't fair on some teams.

Maybe Portsmouth council or another outside body could buy the stadium of them and they could use the money to pay the tax bill. Hopefully something can be worked out for them in the short term and they can reassess the situation in the summer.

No the points and goals are removed for each team for the outcome of games played against Portsmouth, it would result in a 36 game season.

It's amazing that the registrar agreed with HMRC that they are trading while insolvent (a pretty serious crime) and then let them carry on for another 7 days before admitting that it will actually be 9 due to the backlog of cases. Only a football club could get away with it, not saying I want them wound up because I don't but why do the courts think football clubs use the tax man like an overdraft facility?

Maybe it will take a football club or two to actually go out of business to get the governing bodies to shake up the rules on who can and who cant buy a club.

At least we (Southampton) get to face them this weekend now. Hopefully we'll give them a good game despite the difference in league positions.

I am still shocked they haven't been deducted points yet though. Really is amazing as they've been gaining an advantage in all their games as they are playing players that they haven't even paid for!
