Possible Middle East solution?

"All"? Charming ;) Though I know what you mean, on other forums that I post on regularly I've had some spectacular arguments with people who had no idea what the hell they were actually arguing about.

Well not "all" - but there are a select few who I'd gladly like to give a good kick up the backside ;)

trhe only way I can ever see it changing, is have one big war...

One big war? (sounds like the intro for LOTR) and what is that going to acheive? More deaths, more money for the arms dealer, power struggle,.....??

/starts mentally listing

I count at least twelve that I would kick :D

Back OT, I still think Hawkeye Pierce had it right in the quote from my first post. Throw down the weapons, get some drink, last man standing wins.

How would that provide a solution for the problems in the middle-east?
One of the main factors in the creation of Israel was the understandable Jewish desire never to undergo another holocaust. Having thier own country was seen as a solution to that desire. It also motivated the west to see Israel as the underdogs and thus help them. As a lot of Islamic hatred is motivated by anti semitism no Israel means no requirement for such hatred. Thus, goes the theory, no Islamic terrorists.

My plan:

Attach explosives along the border of Israel, then attach chains to the mainland to bloomin great boats. Set off explosives and drag Israel out of the Middle East.

Then attach it to somewhere in Europe on the Mediterranean - thus fulfilling the Arab goal of 'pushing Israel into the sea' whilst preserving the state of Israel!

Surprised someone hasn't thought of this yet  :p

I like it Rich... Just don't get it too close to Cyprus - the Ruskies have already ruined that poor little Island - wouldn't want any more unsavoury characters ;) :p

Then we can fill the land back in and let the indegenous people back to their land and call it Palestine again. :)

yep to begin with, but afterwards maybe they'll have a chance of lasting peace. You just have to look back at Europe. we went though many wars, before finding peace. I can't see a ever lasting peace in the middle east with out these power struggles and wars.

Well the way I see it, neither palestine or israel has more claim over the region the other Im sure you're all aware of the history. So, the only solution is a compromise. A decent 2 state solution, commited to by Israel and the West, as well as the Arab states. A UN enforced border around Israel is also a good idea. I can stomach Israel, but I wouldnt tolerate any imperialistic advances further into the middle east.

All you people crying for israel to be removed are dreaming.

What about (and I realise that this an adaptation of Rich's plan, but standing on the shoulders of giants etc etc...)

Build a replica of Israel on stilts above its current location.

That way bothe the Israelis *and* the palestinians can live in the same place.

A complex system of mirrors would insure that whoever is 'underneath' gets sunlight.

WINNOR!

I see what you are saying but im a little bit sceptical. Imagine this - the big war you mentioned happened, who is it gonna be between? Israel v Palastine/other supportes of the palastinian cause? Imv it will only draw in the bigger dogs (US, UK etc) and it could posssibly lead to a world war if not a full blown regional war......I wont be suprised it after that, nothing gets sorted as everyone i busy shelling one another instead of talking to sort out the issues at hand...

Ah...but whoever was on top would be a **** eventually and block the mirrors, just because they can.

Unless we're talking about mirrors in the centre of UN bases on top? But then the Israeli's would bomb them anyway.

I invision it'll be a complete middle east war. with outside (uk,usa, japan, russia ect) protecting there investments but staying relativley out of it.

Sounds good but in reality can we do that? Can we (us and uk) refuse the urge to supply Israel with more weapons?

And will the world powers sit down doing nothing while Iran and syria supplies those who want Israel dead deadly weapons too?

Iran should be gone by then ;) :D

First, I don't think there can be any short term solution. These people have been hating each other for a long time now. The children grow up hating the other country because of what has happened to the parents.

I do think that there is a lot we could be doing to slow the process down though. If the states want to stop Isreal attacking people... stop sending them munitions! Then maybe they would have to be a little more careful about how many people they bomb.

Not that I don't also have a huge problem with suicide bombers and missiles being fired into a country. I hesitate to call them terrorists any more as well though. They are fighting back with the only things they can therefore I would call them guerilla fighters as things currently stand.

The only solution I can think of would be a UN enforced demilatarised zone along the entire border, short term. In fact maybe permanently.
