NV were butthurt about consoles so put out gameworks (ironic name really) to counteract any potential benefit AMD might get from developers working with GCN on all platforms.

Nvidia's gimping with gaming is doing wonders for Nvidia cards, successfully gimping a 290X to the point that it performs around GTX 770 on Project Cars. Worrying that even if the 390X is say 20% faster in performance than Titan X, gimping with gameworks could potentially make it perform worse in gameworks titles..

This is a brutal industry :D

From what I read it had nothing to do with Nvidia. AMD simply didn't bother to work with the devs. A few days ago the devs sent AMD 20 free game codes basically offering them out. This isn't an issue just limited to Pcars dude. Recently AMD have dropped the ball on all fronts. Their drivers have been poo, Crossfire support practically zero, incomplete offering of Freesync - repeat ad nauseum.

You can't blame Nvidia for AMD being Wayne Kerrs. That blame lies with them.

Ah well if that's the case then they should have put some work in earlier.

Just to be clear as much as I dislike Nvidia's business practice I don't AMD's failure to deliver on past products and recently drivers, basically a lot of the time underwhelming.

At best I am ambivalent about both company's and wish there was a third choice.

So I just go with who has the best hardware, right now that's Nvidia, if it's AMD soon I really hope they sort out their software / driver side to go with it.

Difference being! the Nvidia crew will stump up the cash. AMD's pound stretcher crew won't :p

Haha :D

Did you see that chart above that a new forum member posted?

Is this a mean trolling attempt or does that have some legitimacy.. I must know dammit ! :D:p

Going by that 390/390X will take on GTX 970 and 3XX VS 980 plus dual 3XX will take on GTX Titan X / 980 Ti !??!?

If it takes a duel card to beat the TitanX then that's me out, with the state of AMD's multi-card driver support.

Yeah more I think about it, that chart can't correlate with performance as the R9 295X2 is ahead of the Titan X in a bunch of stuff already, so dual top 3XX card would likely smoke the Titan X and then urinate on it from a great height.

Maybe that chart just shows product stack but not directly relating performance..

I wish AMD would bloody hurry up, I just wanna see what these new cards can do :p

A duel 390X should smoke a Titan X if becomes available although, I can't see the single card beating in any situation.

You think AMD's top single GPU won't beat the TX?

If this happens I hope it's a fair win, like not just in Nvidia flavored titles. If the Titan X is faster across the board then fair enough. It would save me some hassle / time if the TX was still the fastest, then I could just keep mine lol.

The daft thing is, if they had of been upfront about the 970, it still would have sold like crazy and it wouldn't of damaged NVidia reputation like it has. It was an utterly stupid move by NVidia.

+1

After it came out I really thought Nvidia would have handled it better than just washing their hands of it and releasing that apology that wasn't an apology lol.

However the 750 Ti, 960, 980 and Titan X are all very good cards. Will just pretend the 970 doesn't exist :p

I'm still expecting a 960 Ti, 970 Ti, and 980 Ti at some point. The selling point of the 970 Ti can be 'real 4GB capacity' :D

The 960 is pointless isn't it? IMO the TX is the only good one out of that lot, I don't agree with the mutton dressed as lamb 980.

Haha, I've tried them all and got a soft spot for the 960. It's my fav Maxwell card tbh. Seriously underrated imho. The 980 is a very fast / cool running GPU. Not sure what you're smoking over there Orangey :D

Yeah the Titan X is a beast but look at the price tag man. £150 gets ya a 960 with the Witcher 3, can't argue with that ;)

I dont think anyone doubting it will compete with the titan X would complain if it even equalled it. Its simply a measure to avoid ridiculous rumours and or hopes. If you expect it to compete on the level it be aimed against anything more is a billy bonus and not a cruel let down.

Basically to reign in ideas of a £450 Titan X beating, unicorn edition card.

Similar performance to TX but cheaper or better performance and pricey. Either way will be a good result from AMD.

Actually releasing the card is important as well.. I wander how small AMD's market share will be by the time 3XX series launch. These new cards have a lot of work to do lol.

I think they left it too late as most people jumped on nvidia maxwell, they might struggle to sell if they offer little compelling reason.
For people like me still on 7950/680/770 then if the price is right we'll probably make the jump. But people on gtx970/980 r9 290x it might not be worthwhile.

Agreed, they left it to late, and suffered market share loss as a result.

However the same guys willing to pay big bucks for GTX 980's and Titan X's will be the same guys who would switch to AMD if the performance is there.

The difference is this time AMD / ATI historically have never had such little market share, so when 3XX series launch they need to be good solid products and sell well just to re coup what marketshare they have lost, that's before gaining any ground against Nvidia.

The cards have to be good and they have to sell to keep AMD relevant. Not releasing anything against Maxwell when the GTX 980 launched back in September last year has proven that you need new products to stay relevant. At least we know there is a new GPU architecture from AMD this year (At least with the very high end) followed by improved architecture next year which is more traditional.

3XX series have a lot to do..

The Titan was the fastest so I bought it, the 290X was the fastest so I sold the Titan and bought that. The Titan Black was faster so I sold the 290X and bought that. The GTX 980 was faster so sold the Titan Black and I bought that, the Titan X is fastest so I bought that and sold the GTX 980..

If the 390X is the fastest I'll sell the Titan X and buy that.

That's as much though as I put into it.

As the posts above illustrate, being a fanboy for either camp clearly just complicates things and clouds people judgement lol. I'm lucky not to have this fanboy affliction..

Bring on the 390X !!

It maybe not if NV stop optimizing for older cards like they did for Kepler.

Agreed, Nvidia's practices just get worse lol. The amount of posts I've read about people losing performance on their 7XX series cards after Maxwell launched..

Oh well it is what it is, if you want Nvidia you need to pay a lot and pay often..

Where you at AMD? Hurry up and launch something new !
