Just interested in seeing how much of a "real world" advantage this HBM memory gives or if its just something that makes a difference in specific benchmarks for the time being. :o

It will likely be a massive jump, nearly double what current bandwidth is on first gen. It's going to have a positive effect. Also reduction in power consumption which AMD really needs.

Second gen will make 1TB of bandwidth possible

Seen some rumblings that 3XX series is OEM branding only and consumer retail cards will actually be under the 4XX series moniker.

I hope to goodness they pull something worthwhile out of the bag with it.

^They have to, if they don't and 980ti drops before 390x gets out the door. Amd will be left behind!

I think they really have to either match the Titan X for a fair chunk less money or beat it comfortably and be pricey.

AMD are in new ground in terms of marketshare lost and really need a hit with this new gen just to re coup the ground they have lost already. Nvidia must be happy as larry right now. No matter how good the 3XX series are Nvidia are still sitting pretty.

The 390X is definitely on my shopping list.:D:)

I think the 390X will be great fun and it will be very interesting to see how the new HBM works.

Graphics cards are about fun and not about what brand you use - even if it is those crappy useless overrated overpriced horrible looking TitanXs.;):D

+1

If they are cheaper even better.

Notice Windows 10 demand catalyst alongside New Product roadmaps. Means AMD are fully aware of capitalising on the launch of Windows 10 as a certain Mr Boomstick pointed out a few pages back.. **cough DM was wrong cough **

Timing / marketing is just as important as the product itself.

Did you guys catch that seasonal improvement of consoles for 2015?

Reading the between the lines and being somewhat hopeful I think we may see Xbox One / PS4 slim this year as well.

AMD have been busy !!

I'm looking forwards to AM4 next year.. Next year could be an awesome year for AMD!

Let's hope so, competition is good.

So new GPU's are potentially R9 4XX series and 3XX series is OEM only. Also Zen / FX CPU are both using a unified AM4 platform.

Unveil of desktop GPU's is within next few weeks. So got some good info direct from AMD today. About time.

Now I need to go and get my Titan X on the MM :p

From the article:

"One of the more relevant updates was the conversation of GCN based on 14/16nm FinFET and High Bandwidth Memory. CEO Lisa Su made it clear that today was not a product launch – it was more of a tech confirmation of what will be included in the upcoming flagship GPUs. Basically, sub 20nm node, HBM memory and one helluva launch are all that have been confirmed."

"sub 20nm node (for 2016)"

"Seasonal improvements in PCs/consoles", pretty sure (certain) that means in sales terms, if you compare it to "weak PC market" in 1H15. Tech sales traditionally ramp up in Q3 and Q4, compared to the first half.

Yeah think your right, I was thinking in terms of tech they were developing, but yeah that makes sense in relation to sales.

If OEM is 300 series you would think 390x is 490x

Yeah it definitely looks that way, like how HD 8000 series (OEM) came out a lil before the R9 2XX series. 3XX for OEM and 4XX for consumer retail desktop GPU seems likely.

Def exciting times next year, with die shrinks and new architecture, the GPU space will get a fresh start from top to bottom and finally see some nice progression over the following years. With HBM 2, rumoured to be capable of 1TB of bandwidth, imagine what comes later on

Thank god ! I'm using the latest in Display port cables on monitors with no old school DVI. I don't intend to ever use DVI or HDMI again :p

Display port ftw lol.

I already have one radiator in my case, I don't really want another.

Get a better case, if you afford £450+ for a GPU, you can afford a decent case that can accommodate 2 x AIO's :p

I just don't like the look. If it's going to be water cooled it needs to be in a custom loop.

We can hope for a normal version!

This will likely be for reference only, so AMD don't get labelled with poor reference cooling again (After 290X)

The vendors will offer their own cooling as well. Typical longer cards with dual / triple fans. I would prefer the smaller card with built in AIO tbh, cool and quiet. Will need another MITX case though as my current one can only fit 1 Rad :p

it deffo looks exciting though, because water cooling should = quiet.

so that's a 1st strike to AMD, because that's the TXs biggest fault.......... there's loads of room in the Phanteks for that because it'll probably be a single 120 or 140mm rad

Agreed, a quieter card with similar performance to the TX and a lower price would be spot on.

GPU core / and HBM memory must all be cooled by the block. This could be really nice. Must see benchmarks !

Wonder if the actual AIO is an AIO connected to a full board block? If what that site is saying is to be believed (and imo its prob bs) then thats the full card, no fan visible so it would have to be a waterblock covering the entire board under the shroud.

Yeah good point mate, could be a custom block, not standard AIO one.

The GPU core / HBM must all be cooled. the PCB layout must be pretty different from what we have now. Will these have normal sort of VRM? If it's all under water that would be ideal.
