Even better soon when you'll get Witcher 3 and the new Batman with them.

It will be a shame if AMD have to give games away with their new cards right from the off, good for us as consumers but eating into their profits right from release isn't good.

Feels like an eternity waiting for these cards, as I've not had a discrete GPU since returning my 3.5GB 970 Nvidiagate shenanigans card.

Pinball FX2 works fine on my 2500K onboard HD3000 Intel graphics chip, I guess most 2D platform games will be fine to. Choplifter HD works reasonably well too, although I've totally cleared that now and all achievements. :D

Anyway I've lasted a good two months without a proper high-end GPU, I think I'll be able to handle another month or maybe two? (Oh no!) :D

You can buy a 960 and still have change out of £150, most of those cards fall in and around £160-170 mark, so no idea why you think that's a disappointment.
The 960 is disappointing in the sense of 950Ti being sold at 960 price...though the free game that''s currently on offer with it does somewhat help with easing that feeling a bit.

Just interested in seeing how much of a "real world" advantage this HBM memory gives or if its just something that makes a difference in specific benchmarks for the time being. :o

It will likely be a massive jump, nearly double what current bandwidth is on first gen. It's going to have a positive effect. Also reduction in power consumption which AMD really needs.

Second gen will make 1TB of bandwidth possible

Seen some rumblings that 3XX series is OEM branding only and consumer retail cards will actually be under the 4XX series moniker.

Well at the very least it means they have to do some major design work to their cooler as the memory config on the card is obviously gong to be very different. Be nice to see them put some effort into the cooler for once, we all seen the supposed leaks months back showing a shroud similar to the 295 shroud. Can't say i'd be happy with a single gpu with an aio, then again id be less happy with another piece of **** 290 reference cooler.

I hope to goodness they pull something worthwhile out of the bag with it.

^They have to, if they don't and 980ti drops before 390x gets out the door. Amd will be left behind!

+1

I think they really have to either match the Titan X for a fair chunk less money or beat it comfortably and be pricey.

AMD are in new ground in terms of marketshare lost and really need a hit with this new gen just to re coup the ground they have lost already. Nvidia must be happy as larry right now. No matter how good the 3XX series are Nvidia are still sitting pretty.

Even if the 390 is a good card its not really that likely to beat the 980 or titan x by that much (if at all in the case of the latter) so whats the reasoning for people to change? Shelling out more cash for essentially a minimal upgrade if they have a 980? Or trying to recoup some money if they have a titan x? You're probably talking low double digit % differences when it comes to proclaiming a winner between the lot of them, literally the type of differences you'd not really notice ingame.

Then the 980ti is the other factor, it could be faster than a titan x for all we know as the titan x is roughly 30ish percent faster than a stock 980, 980ti could be possibly on par or very slightly below titan x.

Its an awkward position for amd, they're in a spot where they have to best the 980, while having to guesstimate its successors performance and knowing all the while that the titan x will be compared to the 390x regardless of price differences.

The 390x will atleast match the titan x and the 980ti is just goint to be on par woth a titan x at most probs under it as its a 980ti so just bit better thn 980 but not as fast as a titan x

For me (currently 980) I will be upgrading to avoid the G-sync premium & lock in.

The 390x has to catch the 980 first then power on towards the titanX, remember the 980 is faster than the 290x, not by much on some situations, but by quite a bit in others.

NVidia striped out all the unnecessary bits to give the Titanx the best performance they could. AMD is unlikely to do that I think, so they will have less room for more performance.
We all hope HBM is the big smoking gun and it brings monumental performance with it. The only thing I will say, is that most new memory technologies look fantastic on paper, but the initial implementations are often not much better than the outgoing memory tech.

End result, I don't expect the 390x to match the TitanX, but it will be quick and at a better price point, just how much better remains to be seen.
